Round 4 comes to a close and we find every team in the ORFFL with at least one win on the board, well every team except one. Humpty Doo put up a valiant last stand under considerable duress, but alas it just wasn't to be. In fact, in a peculiarity of the ORFFL, six travelling teams covered themselves in glory on the weekend. Speaks to the competition's strong logistics, if not its weak medical staff. To the review!

TARWIN LOWER PIGS1104 Def byQUEENSTOWN QUOLLS1121
What a face-tightener this clash was, Queenstown notching its first win of the season over Tarwin Lower by just 17 points. Adam Cooney was the undisputed hero here, his 115 points at the death a match winning performance. Dane Swan (121) and Jobe Watson (104) were the only other Quolls to crack triple figures, and I imagine all and sundry will be celebrating on the tip back to Queenstown.
Tarwin Lower on the other hand were desperately unlucky, Carrots (3) going down in the opening minutes, costing them dearly not just this week, but for months to come. Hocking (34) and Edwards (25) had shockers, but the Pigs saw a return to form of Pendles (134) and Hanley (118), and the continuation of the form Geary (100) and Giles (106).

POOWONG POTOROOS1326 DefTORRUMBARRY THUNDA1218
Gary Ablett. Wasn't as DOMINANT this round, but it didn't matter as the Potoroos scampered (?) away to a 108 point win over the Thunda. Sewell (122) and the Thompson Twins (110, 125) put in crackers, along with a plentiful supporting cast in Bob Murphy (108), Darling (97), Mzungu (99). Gary had a bit of a downer (134). Needs to lift.
While on the other side of tracks, the injury curse continues at Torrumbarry, Robbie Gray going down with what looks like an ACL. From the Thunda's midfield, Gray, Douglas, Salopek, Ross and Clifton are all missing in action. The silver lining is the form of Cloke (126), Heppell (102) and Waters (100) over the weekend. Get well soon guys.

BONNIE DOON BANDITS1009 Def byPOPANYINNING PYRITE1188
Already battered from their own injury crisis, when Carnage Round hit the ORFFL last weekend, Bonnie Doon were unprepared. That damage showed on the weekend, the Bandits going down by 187 to the Pyrite. Bonnie Doon played one short with late withdrawal of Coniglio, while poor scores from Harvey (46) and Gia (33) didn't help. Nor does having to field Schoenmakers every week. Tippett (126), Mitchell (122) and Brennan (107) continue to prove to be inspired recruitments on the plus side.
For the victorious Popanyinning, Eric McKenzie (138) had a game I would not have thought he was capable of, but clearly P_L knows something I don't. Swallow (102), Rich (104) and Hayes (104) continued to be models of consistency, while the form of Twin Towers Reid (29) and JRoo (48) must be something of a concern for the higher ups of the Pyrite, especially after such promising starts.

MALLACOOTA MAGICIANS1066 Def byWARBURTON WANDERERS 1246
The spell that Johnny Kash threatened to cast over Warburton proved to be merely an illusion, Mallacoota going down by ONE HUNDRED AND EIGHTY to the former. Marc Murphy continuing (120) to live up to top billing, while Lewis (105), Boak (119), Rivers (103) , and the uncontrollable force that is MJ (100). EddieV's ability to conjure scores out of the most unlikely of places at crucial times is staggering, yet happens metronomically every round. Early contender for Coach of the Year for mine.
Over in the bowels of MagicLand, Johnny Kash will be wondering what more he could have done on the weekend. Prepared for the late outs of Fyfe and Dempsey, the Magicians could not prepare for Petrenko being subbed off for zero. To add to that, WhiteX (47), Duncan (42), Harbrow (40) and Son of Ibbit (38) all failed to light up the scoreboard. Barlow (100), McVeigh (117) and Crameri (131) all had good ones, but I imagine Johnny is crying into his Wheat Bix as he reads this and doesn't want me awarding any false bravery medals.

PURNULULU BUNGLE RANGERS1045 Def bySARAH ISLAND SAVAGES1447
It was a demolition over at Purnululu Bungle, the Savages (that's the team I coach), ROMPING away to a 402 point victory over the Rangers, yet falling three points short of leading the race for the ORFFL Dingy for highest score of the round (which the PBR hold the oars to). In a classical performance of fantasy footballing brilliance, 7 players from Sarah Island hit triple digits (NicNat, JPK, Simmo, Jori, Bundy and Minno), with a further 5 above 80 (BJ, NoUndie, Mitch, Waite and Chip). Yep.
I'd always suspected the PBR would find it tough this year being such a young squad, and with senior citizen Heath Shaw missing this weekend, the pain of this youthfulness was felt even more acutely. Harper (13) and Suban (16) starting the game with the Kryptonite, and the Rangers playing one short. Selwood (144) and Harry O (114) continued to show on and off field leadership to their young charges though.
Didn't have time for a new photo, so here's a re-run:

MERTON MEERKATS1152 Def byMILIKAPATI SNAKES1251
Richmond, sorry, Merton fought bravely over the weekend, yet could not do enough to get the chocolates, Milikapati running away 99 point winners. Lids (102), Jack (114), Anthony (102), DuffMan (116) and the seriously amazing Spiderman (128) posting impressive scores. 1251 not bad when you consider the Snakes were missing Birch and Kelly this week.
Meanwhile Merton can console themselves with tons from Cotchin (103), Ivan Mullet (104) and Foley, and the confirmation that they picked up a scoop in Scooter Selwood. If 94 is what you score in a poor game, that's a real player you got right thar. Coaching note: tell NicNat to hit it to Shuey, and only Shuey next week.

COULTA COULDABEENS(0) Def byGLENROWAN GUNSLINGERS1189
Walkover here with Coulta failing to submit a team sheet in time. I'll keep this one brief that being the case. Dahlhaus had a huge one with 149 points, while Beams (106) and Ziebell (98) also did their part. And Glenrowan notched up their maiden win and stepped off the bottom of the ladder. Celebrations ensue.

WOY WOY WIZARDS1380 DefJIMCUMBILLY JACKRABBITS1141
What I had predicted to be a cracking match on Friday turned into something of a rout by Sunday, Woy Woy defeating Jimcumbilly by 239 points. The veteran team of the ORFFL collecting a swag of power scores, Sandi (121), Chappy (103), Blacky (102), Malsexi (106), Jolly (108), Lukey Power (131) and Kane Cornes (103) tonning up for the Wizards. That's seven of the best.
While Jimcumbilly had the People's Beard (112) ably filling in for the injured Loo Berger, it's other stars simply couldn't come to the party. NDS, Fisher, Grundy and Beamer all producing scores below what they are capable of. Their coach Big Gary Turtleton imagine would be fuming at slipping to 2-2 at this early stage of the season. I imagine because I don't actually know, he might actually be at peace with it all in reality.

HUMPTY DOO HAMMERHEADS 1034 Def byMOUNT BUGGERY DISAPPOINTMENTS1369
Match of the round! Not in terms of outcome, but rather story. As alluded to in the opening, Humpty Doo were not able to hold back the rampaging twin forces of injury and Disappointment, Mount Buggery getting up by 325 (like that number). No longer a one man team, with Rocky (167) joining Stanton (161) in the mile high club. Their 328 points is about the average of 4 good players in the ORFFL. Which is pretty special. Ward (133) and Suckling (120) were also quite good.
Humpty Doo will simply be happy to put that round behind them and move onto the next onw, with hopefully someone, anyone returning from injury or droppage. Despite being the only team in the ORFFL yet to have a win, I don't suspect the former German commander to go the tank. To much pride and principle in that one, he'll fight till his last breath. Kerr's 138 also bears mentioning.
Oh and remember guys, split lockout this week. So if you want to field any Essendon or Collingwood players, get them into me before Wednesday lockout. Tchuss for now.
