Wow, Draft Rivalry Round I lived up to its all-star billing, providing thrills and chills for all! There were the momentous highs of massive scores, and devastating lows of late outs - which are becoming more nefarious than either of the complementary coloured vests (but it's okay because I've put a bounty out on McKenna's testicles). Tomorrow the ORFFL midseason trade period opens, for now head over the break for the Round X reviews.

TARWIN LOWER PIGS1010 DefBONNIE DOON BANDITS

It was a walkover at Tarwin Lower this weekend, this rivalry proving to be one-sided. Which is just as well for the Pigs, who didn't exactly hit the heights they are capable of. Playing a man down in defence, not a single Pig tonnedup, I imagine taking it easy in a exhibition match. That being the case, I'm not deigning to single out any players. Except one. Where'sWallis (84) proving to be a real find for the TLP in this middle third of the season. Averaging 88 for the Pigs, and 102 over the past month. Respect for the 2nd year player.

POOWONG POTOROOS1152 Def by vsMERTON MEERKATS1204

In this tussle between ORFFL heavyweights it was the plucky team from Merton that got up by 52 points over the men from Poowong. It was a somewhat low scoring affair for both sides, for Merton only three players hit triple figures; Cotchin (106) in the middle, Big Ivan (111) in the ruck and live-wire Zorko (102) up forward. Yet they did enough to defeat 2nd and consolidated their position in the Top8.

On the other side of the equation, Poowong had a rare loss. Forced to play Mattner (28) OOP in a FWD line decimated by injury, the Thompson Twins (34, 58) also had equally rare poor games by the lofty standards they have set for themselves this year. Still, there were some moments to make a coach smile. Gary (155) had 53 touches in a belting, SJ (156) kicked 5 and defender Garland (101) proved a match winner thrown up forward.

    WARBURTON WANDERERS1278 DefPURNULULU BUNGLE RANGERS1201

The PBR were simply outclassed in this one, going down to Warburton by 77 points. Hartlett (153) was BOG on Saturday night, Rivers (101) and Hale (108) more than solid in their teams wins. And all this on the back of playing a man down; Kruezer a late out and leaving the Wanderers without a ruckman in their match.

The Rangers of Purnululu Bungle were valiant in what turned out to be a heavy loss. Six players (Adcock, Selwood, Trengove, Ryder, Walker and Broadbent) hit the 100 mark., which IMO means they were desperately unlucky not to come away with a win, despite playing a man down with Heath Shaw un-emergencied in defence. That, coupled with Harper's (22) poor showing was enough for the PBR to go down.

    QUEENSTOWN QUOLLS1052 Def byMILIKAPATI SNAKES1241

It was a bit of a demolition down at Queenstown in round ten, the visiting Milikapati winners by 193 points. Jack (150) hit his fourth 120+ for the year to bust his average to 106, Lids (114) hit his tenth 100 in a row to keep his average above 120, and Kelly (137, avg. 97) had a day out at Kardinia. The Blease (8) ruck experiment didn't work nearly as well though.

The midseason break really can't come soon enough for the Quolls, injuries and omissions striking once again. Watson (140) and Jones (130), while Warnock (102) managed a ton by running around and tapping it to his feet repeatedly. Curnow (35) and Yarran (42) had shockers, and when you add those contributions to OOP scores from K Hunt (27) and Polec (30) it was always going to struggle to be enough.

    GLENROWAN GUNSLINGERS1170 DefWOY WOY WIZARDS1145

...And the Bugg/Jetta/McQualter Cup goes to Woy Woy, Glenrowan getting up by just 25. HiLoHannebery (136) ran around unimpeded, as did Beams (121, avg. 107), yet again. Fasolo (102) helped himself to his first century of the year, while Abrtel (118) was his dreamy self. The one player I'd tonup for. Sausages Mumford (40) was fairly disappointing in his return. Team needs more Pyke.

Woy Woy were, I think, unfairly savaged by the terminal fantasy disease known as lateoutis, copping a zero in the place of Darren Jolly . Already a man short in defence with Malceski getting his knee joints re-oiled, it was a weekend of unimaginable horror for the Wizards. Despite this Chappy (148, avg. 108) hit his 5th ton in a row, defying his critics who said he was washed up as a fantasy prospect. Namely me. Sandi (122) was a monster, Kornes (120) monstered his opposition, while Dids (102) turned back the clock against a bunch of youngsters. Funny how time works. They also get to console themselves with PickAnyoneButClancee. Which is nice.

    TORRUMBARRY THUNDA1385 DefMOUNT BUGGERY DISAPPOINTMENTS1264

The Thunda roared their way to a 121 point victory over the 'Pointments on the back of a 13 goal virtuoso performance from Lance Franklin (236, avg. 119), who is probably the MVP in the ORFFL I reckon. Combined with Dangerfield (145) - brutal in the 3rd quarter - and Cloke (127), a beast in the 1st; the Thunda unstoppable over round ten. Broughton (100) continued on his annual middle season charge, while the selection of Shiel (109) may prove to bear fruit earlier than perhaps expected.

Mount Buggery fought gamely but their defence disappointed once again, combining for just 269 (avg. 263). Goldy (127, avg. 91) kept on repaying the faith, CementHead (120, avg. 107) once again solid and Watts (111, avg. 90) a revelation since returning to the side. Pearce (102) also scored his third century on the trot. This club just needs a proper defender and Suckling (68) to get back to some semblance of form. They need to do it soon though because at 4-6 the Top8 is slipping away.

SARAH ISLAND SAVAGES1245 Def byCOULTA COULDABEENS1298

Coulta completed what is probably the toughest assignment in fantasy football, travelling to Sarah Island and coming away with the bounty, 53 point winners. Surviving lateoutis through an emergency Johnson (78), the Couldabeens never looked back. Scarlett (108) picked up the slack in the back half, Ebert (110), Priddis (133) and Wright (111) ran amok through the middle, while Sarge (127) marshalled the troops in the forward. Did a pretty good job of it too - they combined for 360.

While over in the loser's 'shed', wobblies were thrown and fatwas issued. Guy McKenna, consider this fair warning. In any case the 12 players and Paul Bower (36) did an okay job of combining for 1245, Jori (178) worth a special mention. Also Harry (110) kicked 6 and NicNat (108, avg. 106) has a standard deviation of just 7. Which I found interesting.

    POPANYINNING PYRITE1298 Def JIMCUMBILLY JACKRABBITS1259

    Mistakes were made.

<del>I don't want to use the c word here, so I'll just say that it's pretty amazing that JRoo (187) kicked 8 and the Pyrite still managed to lose the match, defeated by JImcumbilly by just 18 points in the end. So how did the Jackrabbits accomplish this feat? You'll never guess, so I'll just tell youu. Rhys Shaw (148) flipped the bird to his critics and had a game for the ages, boosting his average by more than 10 points in the process. The return of Hudson (100) was a welcome one, while Ellard (119) is proving a worthwhile addition to the lineup.</del>

<del>The Pyrite on the other hand missed a real opportunity. They also missed Shuey - Cunnington (57) not in the same class. Still, Grima (120, avg. 109) has been terrific in his two games this year, adding much needed steel to the Popanyinning defence, while Boyd and De Boer mad their way to even hundreds. Coach may rue the decision to play Reid over Sylvia. I probably would have done the same though.</del>

    MALLACOOTA MAGICIANS1076 DefHUMPTY DOO HAMMERHEADS1002

Finally, a somewhat dour affair that I found strangely entertaining, the Magicians triumphing over the Hammerheads by just 74 points. I say just because Humpty Doo only had 12 fit players to choose from, and yet amazingly still managed to get oh so close. Bolton (161, avg. 94) showed he can still have those massive games of his, while Mackie (101), Wells (116) and Wellingham (106) all put up solid numbers. Bring on Clancee!

Oh and Mallacoota. They did just enough for the win. Redden (104) tonned up and that was it. Had they had known Wood was going to be a a late inclusion it could have been a different story. Hindsight is a strange thing though, as it also would have predicted Rischitelli's remarkable fall in scoring this year (23, avg. 69). Regardless, a win's a win and this one keeps the Magicians in the pack bound for glory.
