Guess most of us will be sweating on the team announcements prior to R1, particularly to see if our rookie guesses made the grade. Lots of late swapping before lockout for those that didn't. Couple of difficulties with this. The first is that GC have the bye, so you won't know which GC rookies are sure starters until R2, which is of course too late, any change requiring a trade. The second is that a partial lockout is in effect for R1. If, for example, you have Conca and Duigan as part of your rookie lineup, then you are locked into them as of Thursday night. Team lists for the weekend games announced on Thursday night will be extended lists, leaving a great deal of uncertainty for rookie selection. My reading of the SC rules on partial lockout suggests you will still be able to trade (without using a trade) on the Friday as long as it does not involve any Richmond or Carlton players. Anyone have an interpretation on this? The partial lockout also offers potential for listing Judd or Murphy as VC and then putting a dud in the next day as C, if you are happy with the score, or nominating someone else like Swan in the hope of a better score. Anyone planning to use this strategy first up?
Presumably for this to work if Judd has a ripper and gets a 150, then we need to select a non-scoring player on the ground as Captain, ie a GCS player, with a scoring Emergency. Correct?
Banzai, for you to get Judds score, your C emergency has to be a non-player in a separate game. I am assuming we can use GC rookies as emergencies in rnd 1 for this purpose?
Corks yes, and if you have Carlton or Richmond rookies bench them but the E on them if they have good enough games u put a GCS player on the field if they have poor games just pick a playing player out of the other 14 teams
is it possible that HS have identified this flaw from last year and fixed it so that it won't work? Round 1 a very risky round to 'trial' this loophole
I think they just accepted that this is possible. Not so much a loophole just how it is I think. Just playing "smart" using the system to your advantage. So should be OK. I stand to be corrected. I have been wrong before..(I think??..LOL)
If the captain's a non scoring player & the emergency is a scorer, does it go to the vice captain for certain? or does the emergency become captain by default?
nah the VC still gets the double score. I dont see why they would try to stop it soups. should be ok still i reckon. hard to know for sure though.
Does seem odd that they wouldnt have looked into fixing it.. If you take the gamble and they have indeed fixed the loophole you could really ruin your entire overall ambitions..
The thing is, a Carlton premium probably isn't too bad an option to be setting as captain anyways, so it's probably not going to kill your season even if it doesn't work.
Sorry to go over this again but not 100% what I need to do. From what I gather you have a non scoring C before the Carl / Rich game and a VC in that game. Then after that game you can change the C to your normal premium therefore getting a c score twice. Is this correct? Also do you need to select a C before the lockout or can you just select a VC and still get the double points?

Is this correct?</blockquote> No. The partial lockout allows you to potentially leave a player from the early game (who you select as your VC) to effectively be your captain, if their score is good enough for your liking. It doesn't allow you to have two captains scores. Scenario 1: Judd is your VC and a Gold Coast player (i.e. non-playing in R1) is your C. Judd scores 150 in the early game. You then decide to keep your C player as a Gold Coast rookie and your VC will effectively become your C for the round because your C didn't play. Scenario 2: Judd is your VC and a Gold Coast player is your C. Judd spuds it up and scores 75 in the early game. You then decide (before the full lockout) to switch your C from a GC player to Goddard. Goddard then plays as your C and his score is doubled in the usual way. The partial lockout gives you this flexibility, or at least did last year (not sure if they have done anything to change it) but doesn't otherwise allow you to get any additional captains scores.
Could you just not appoint a captain at all (ie forget the GC bench option) and only appoint a vice captain initially. If you are happy with the VC score then you dont appoint captain if not then appoint captain after Game 1. If you dont appoint a captain at all then VC should get double points..Right??
Shoot me if I'm wrong, but my reading of the updated SC rules says you can. It's a fairly standard procedure, made more interesting this year by GC having the bye. Interesting that readers have focused on this aspect, personally was more concerned about the potential effects of partial lockout on final team selection. Guess we wait for it to happen before people start to scream.
Soups' Easy Emergency Loop-hole Step 1 - Set a Carlton or Richmond player as your VC Step 2 - Put a non-playing player on the ground e.g Gold Coast player and make them C Step 3 - Ensure there is a playing Emergency on the same line as your non-playing C Step 4 - If you're happy with the VC score then keep as is - otherwise, Change the C from the non-playing player to anyone else on your squad.
