With most of the top-scoring defenders from 2014 being re-assigned as MID only in 2015, coaches have clearly struggled to identify any SC locks on the DEF line.
A number of cheap DEF options are surprisingly popular picks, given the lack of exposure during NAB for some of these guys. Hugh Goddard could surprise a lot of coaches if he isn't named by the Saints for R1. Ditto Whitecross, who has been mooted to return via the VFL this year.
Nathan Brown has not averaged above 50 during the past 3 seasons, yet is the 7th most popular defender this year due to his rookie-price level. Will he be the ultimate slow-burner this year? I'm not convinced by his NAB scoring that when the real stuff arrives he will be anything other than a lock-down defender again.
I expect that Lumumba ownership will soar after his NAB3 performance, and because he looks likely to get more midfield time at his new club it is hard not to jump on. Toot toot!
