Let's take a quick look at who the popular ruck selections are and who might be a point-of-difference in your starting SC team.
<strong style='font-size: 14px;]Rucks[/b]
26.8% Naitanui (26%)
20.9% Bellchambers (20%)
20.6% Leuenberger (20%)
17.7% Cox (19%)
15.0% Ryder (14%
11.1% Jacobs (10%)
9.8% Goldstein (13%)
7.5% Nankervis (7%)
7.1% Wright (6%)
6.7% Sandilands (7%)
6.7% Durdin (6%)
6.7% Kreuzer (5%)
5.9% Smith (6%)
5.7% Mumford (7%)
5.6% Read (6%)
5.1% Grundy (5%)
4.3% Giles (4%)
4.2% Maric (5%)
4.0% Hale (4%)
3.5% Blicavs (4%)
3.3% Hannath (4%)
2.9% Soldo (3%)
2.9% Lobb (3%)
2.9% Lycett (3%)
2.5% Minson (4%)
2.5% Naismith (3%)
2.3% O'Brien (4%)
2.3% McKernan (2%)
2.2% Griffin (2%)
2.2% McEvoy (2%)
2.0% Martin (2%)
2.0% King (2%)
2.0% Lobbe (2%)
2.0% Holmes (2%)

Rucks are a bit of an unknown this year, with the changes to the way hitouts will be scored. [span style='line-height: 18px; background-color: #ffffff; font-variant: normal; font-style: normal; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14px;]Why spend good money on a commodity that is overpriced? This appears to have turned a majority of supercoaches off the premium rucks from 2014, with the likes of Jacobs, Goldstein, Mumford, Sandilands and Lobbe not featuring in the most popular selections.
More than a quarter of all coaches are pinning their hopes on Naitanui being fit to play at the start of the regular season. It will be interesting to see how many stay onboard the NicNat train if he doesn't make any appearances during the NAB Challenge.
Mason Cox is far and away the most popular R3 candidate, with Wright and Durdin the next most popular cheap ruck options, followed by Read and Hannath. I am quite surprised at the number of selections for Wright and Durdin, and the low number of selections for O'Brien - who seems much more likely to play early games, according to what his coach has said to the media anyway.
Those looking at setting up a DPP link between RUC and FWD lines are currently favouring either Bellchambers and/or Ryder along with a cheap R3 (Cox/Read). Lycett was in less than 3% of teams and would certainly a point-of-difference if you have selected him.

For the record - my ruck line is currently Mumford-Goldstein-O'Reilly, with Lycett at F4.

I've currently got Lobbe and Goldy.
I reckon the points Lobbe scores from tackles will give him an advantage over others.

Can see a strong possibility of O'Brien being elevated from Adelaide's rookie list - they have Rielly to add to their LTI list making room, and Jacobs has had some injury issues over past few months.

Was personally thinking of going with Maric until I watched him yesterday against Port's youngsters - 27 HO (10 to advantage) did not make me salivate considering he had little ruck competition (Redden playing 1st game in almost 2 years; Mitch Harvey raw fwd/ruck in only his 2nd year; and Butcher)!!! Big Ivan should've wiped the floor against those 3!!!

Had thought about Lobbe at times over past few weeks, but with Hinkley talking about the possibility of playing Lobbe, Ryder and Redden in the same team it makes you wonder how big an impact that would be on his scores after putting up some good numbers as Port's sole ruck for almost 2 years!!!

Mummy always worries me with his inability to stay on the park.

Am surprised 6.7% of coaches still have Kreuzer considering his injury status!!!

Rucks and Backs seem to be the biggest conundrums this season atm!!!

Oh, and I've got O'Reilly R3, but that'll prob change

I've personally put a line through Leuenberger, and doubt I will reconsider him or another 'cheap' ruck.
As far as the premium rucks, I like Sandi and Mummy the most, however they are the most injury prone, and with durability being even more key this year might revert to Jacobs and Goldy. Seeing Sandi and Mummy with that low ownership though makes me want to jump back on board!

J - whats your reasoning for having Lycett, but no Nic Nat? Normally that's the pairing you would come across given Lycett's scoring ability when Nic Nat is out. Are you just planning for Nic Nat to be out more often than not? I can't see myself playing a R/F in the forward line given all scoring potential and rooking potential on that line this year, which makes it even harder.

I think Lycett can score alright even if NN plays. Bontempelli and Lycett are sort of changing on a daily basis in my team for F4.

I've got Naitanui, Maric and Nankervis, as my 3 rucks. Don't see why you wouldn't have Nic Nat in your team at the moment.

Currently running Goldy and Lycett with Cox in R3, will trade out a problem.
Would prefer NicNat & Lycett but given we have yet to see him picking him makes me nervous.

I tend to shy away from Mummy given his lack of games, but I listened to (but didn't watch) the GWS/Dons game and it sounded like he was destroying the Dons rucks. Or was the Giants huge clearance numbers more a function of the lack of midfield that the opposition had on the park? Did anybody watch the game who would care to comment? I'm looking at Zack Smith as a mid price rick option. Madness or not?

He dominated, then was pulled at halftime.. If he is healthy he is the best candidate early given our draw, I've already switched to him and Lycett after going back and looking at the game again. (You can watch it on the gws website by qtr too if interested.

Does anybody know which scoring system the Herald Sun is using when posting after each NAB game? New or Old? I think GWS deep midfield will complement Mummy's scoring ability but will you get a full season from him? I believe Jacobs & Goldy are the most durable.

I'm liking Lycett as well Jas! Maric n Goldy R1 n R2 at this stage.... I'm sure there'll be 101 more changes to my team yet though!

Looks like the ownership info is static on the SC site at the moment, these numbers haven't changed since I posted them about a week ago. Take with a grain of salt.

Updated ownership stats above in brackets. Not a lot of movement in the past 2 weeks.
