The new PC! I've been a laptop man for the last, what- 6 or 7 years, so it's very strange sitting at a desk to do this from home, but the plan is to set up RDC so that I can hook into this beast from my lil' lapdog and take full advantage of the awesomeness. Understand, being a laptop man, I've come to see 2GB of ram as alright, and when the missus upgraded to 4gb, I was pretty impressed. This thing has a i7 quad core 3.4ghz processor with 16- yes, 16GB of ram, 4 times the amount that we keep using up on the laptop. Along with of course the 2TB worth of HD space and a nvidia graphics card with 1GB of memory on it. Needless to say, I'm pretty impressed thus far and I'm looking forward to seeing how the site runs on this PC as development on the dog was, well- a bit of a dog! Also, any suggestions on what I should get on this thing? I'm thinking Portal2- but after that, I'm just not sure- any suggestions?
Wow, sounds like a fantastic piece of hardware you've got there Walesy - actually making me feel quite jealous If it wasn't for the 1gig graphics card I'd say you've got a top notch gaming machine, but we all know you need better graphics capabilities for serious gaming! Anticipate hearing how well the site runs on it for you - enjoy
Lots of info there walesy but lost on an uneducated computer boffin like myself. When you press a button does it go fast........ Sounds like you're gunna have fun & I have a suspicion it has been purchased to get the brownlow multi on quicker? Enjoy & looking forward to some glowing reports.
it certainly goes fast when I push buttons. As for the graphics card, it's a Quadro 600- so it should do everything I ask of it. That said, if I do get into some serious gaming, I'd probably look to upgrade it- but who has time for *serious* gaming! So long as Portal runs and I can boot up a copy of Pool of Radiance every now and then, she'll be sweet. That said, what is the latest and greatest turn based RPG these days? I haven't had the time to really sink my teeth into one since Baldurs gate and Neverwinter nights, what's that, nearly ten years ago now! - anything out there at the moment that I should be looking into? Or is the genre largely ignored these days?
Witcher 2 has been a very enjoyable action RPG (not turn based however). The next in the Neverwinter Nights series, 'Neverwinter', is due to be released later this year http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neverwinter_(Video_Game)
Awesome Walesy, now if only I could remember the theme song to "the six million dollar man"..... There's a game called Dragon Age: Origins that's a couple of years old now but made "as the spiritual successor to Baldurs Gate" (made by a bunch of the same developers/writers etc just at a new studio) that was alright. Haven't played the second one which is new but heard it wasn't great though
We can rebuild him. We have the technology. Yes, Dragon Age will definitely move to the top of the playing tree. Team Fortress 2. I used to smash it at counterstrike back in the day so that could be a fun little splashback - though I reckon I'll be more of a thorn in my teams side while I get back into the swing of things. Can you still use rockets to jump far?
Do yourself a favour walsey go and get witcher 2, was so tempted to get a new machine but couldnt see the point spending $2k just so i could play this game, everying ive seen and read is screaming best rpg of the year and its not sugar coated for kids either, just remember to leave enough time for this site , check out the vid review http://au.pc.ign.com/objects/143/14345201.html
Rocket jumps are encouraged. Great Steam sale (including Witcher 2) on til the 10th: http://store.steampowered.com/. Worth a look.
