We're now into one of the most important parts of the SuperCoach season; when players are ready for their first price change come round three. The most important element of this is the rookies. Those that have played two games are on the bubble and ready to make serious cash for your side.

Unless you're a fantasy God, chances are that when selecting the many rookies in your side you may have at least one or two who aren't performing. That makes correctional trades to bring in the right rookies all the more important and with 30 trades, you can't afford not to. It could be the difference between being able to afford Pendlebury or having to settle with a Cotchin/Rockliff type.

In recognition of this unique time in our trading season, to make this all easier I've put together an extensive and comprehensive guide to all the rookies who are ready for a price rise and written a summary which will help you gain some context into their individual situations as well as supplying all the details you will need to know about their scoring. Along with a big cup of coffee and the Best Buys later today you should be set and on your way to making what is hopefully your first batch of trades this year.

All info is pretty self-explanatory except for PP which stands for Projected Profit. This is got by using the salary calculator of each player in the Stats and using 10 games played (so 8 more) to take prices and working out the differences. One thing you should note is that byes have not been taken into considerations, so 10 games means Rd 11 at earliest, so keep that in mind (you'll be getting rid of some rookies before then anyway). Tried to be optimistic and conservative at the same time but play around yourself if you disagree with any projections!

    DEFENCE

Late in the pre-season there seemed to be plenty of options to choose from in defence but our early fears have eventuated and there's not a lot of variety down back and it got worse with a lot of outs in Round 2. There's a few rays of sunshine though.

    Tom Langdon (COL) $117,300 Avg 81 BE: -97 PP: $235k @75avg/8games

Great debut game in round 1 and he's the best defensive rookie by far. His cheap price means he could make well over $200k profit for you. With Seedsman at least a month away, Williams out indefinitely there's definitely no chance of him being dropped and he will be more than capable of generating big scores again. If for some reason you've still not got him in your side it's a no-brainer, bring him in.

    Alexis Georgiou (MEL) $102,400 Avg 64 BE: -67 PP: $180k @60avg/8games

For a rookie-listed player he's been scoring well even as a key defender and should make money as long as he plays. The only problem is his job security; he should make way once Garland returns, which could be this week or next. So a risky proposition for coaches to weigh up if wanting to bring him in. He will play but for how many games is the question and what you don't want is to have a player come in and then not play the next week so you may have to go conservative and choose someone who won't generate as much cash but will play.

    Will Langford (HAW) $123,900 Avg 60 BE: -47 PP: $160k @60avg/8games

Found a spot in the side as a tagger who can get a bit of the pill which is good as you want your defenders to be playing in the middle! As a role player his job security is a bit unknown but the Hawks rate him so the test will be when Sewell becomes available week after next. Should be able to generate cash though so strongly consider.

    Luke McDonald (NTH) $182,300 Avg 72 BE: -35 PP: $155k @70avg/8games

Didn't have a good week round 1 but showed his class last round. Is quite costly for a rookie and may not score big every game but you can't not have him as he will play as many games as possible and as long as the scoring can be consistent will generate $150k plus so definitely a must have rookie.

    Clay Cameron (GC) $123,900 Avg 51 BE: -28 PP: $115k @50avg/8games

A young key defender who's rather raw and doesn't look like he gets a lot of the pill anyway which will impact his scoring and I can't see him holding his spot in the side. Be wary.

    Jack Frost (COL) $239,500 Avg 78 BE: -13 PP: $100k @70avg/8games

Really attractive scoring in the last two week but is unlikely to maintain it since he's a KPD, especially against tougher opponents and even if he does score solidly won't generate the bigger dollars of cheaper rookies

    Ben Griffiths (RIC) $230,300 Avg 72 BE: -7 PP: $110k @70avg/8games

Finally maturing he's got a good role in the Tigers side as the second ruck and a target up forward which makes him an attractive option to score 70 each week. Was Red Vested in Rd 1 so that may be a problem but if he keeps his form up should stay in the side and it's only his high price that really limits any profit he will make.

    MIDFIELD

The biggest and most important position on the field and there are plenty of rookies in the midfield which is lucky given the problems on other lines. So it's important to have as many as possible. I'll go out on a limb and say the winner of Supercoach will be someone with a 4-1-5 or 5-0-5 structure at least, the cash generation will just set them up come upgrade time. You won't get that on other lines.

These guys are must haves in your midfield, if you don't have them you're already behind the times, so bring them in! Won't look in too much detail with them:

    Jared Polec (PTA) $172,600 Avg 103 BE: -103 PP:$255k @90avg/8 games

    Starring in Port's midfield.

    Dom Tyson (MEL) $216,800 Avg 108 BE: -87 PP: $215k @90avg/8 games

One of the few highlights for Melbourne

    Luke Dunstan (STK) $132,300 Avg 82 BE: -85 PP: $250k @80avg/8 games

Hard nut who was very impressive round 1.

    Xavier Ellis (WCE) $159,100 Avg 82 BE: -69 PP: $220k @80avg/8 games

Touchwood, his body is holding up over in the West.

    Mat Thomas (RIC) $250,300 Avg 119 BE: -90 PP: $190k @90avg/8 games

Matt 'The Vest' White this guy isn't and whilst expensive deserves a mention because he's only $28k more than Jack Martin and scoring like an elite mid. History says he's a bit inconsistent and a boom or bust player but if he averages 90 from here on out, will gain $190k by Round 11. Risky but strongly consider if you need a mid-price downgrade target, otherwise may be too costly to correct from a cheaper rookie. J.Martin or Thomas would be great.

    Harry Cunningham (SYD) $123,900 Avg 67 BE: -61 PP: $205k @70avg/8games

He fooled us all last season with his subbed appearances in round 1 but appears to be the Real McCoy now. A low price and solid scoring (expect improvement once Sydney start winning) and he will get near to making $200k profit which puts him in as one of the best rookies. Always a possibility to lose his spot but there appears to be a few others lower on the pecking order. If you need a cheap midfielder he's the best option.

    Josh Saunders (STK) $208,700 Avg 84 BE: -45 PP: $150k @75avg/8games

Another who has stood to benefit from the Saints depleted midfield. With a good round 1 performance he should keep his spot in the side for now. At his price he does need to be scoring better than Dunstan, but with an extra year in his body, could have the better job security if you're looking for a unqiue rookie pick.

    Eli Templeton (STK) $130,400 Avg 59 BE: -40 PP: $155k @60avg/8games

Someone who had big wraps on him when selected in the pre-season draft, he's come off the rookie list and straight into the team and looked alright. In his role as a small forward he's not going to score very well which is a concern, as is what his job security is exactly so you'd need to have a very good reason to choose this guy over someone like Cunningham!

    Martin Gleeson (ESS) $123,900 Avg 56 BE: -39 PP: $160k @60avg/8games

Gotta say he was one out of left-field to me when he was selected in the round 1 team however looks to have got himself a spot in the Dons side on the half-back flank with all their injuries. Unfortunately is rather slight so scoring and durability may be an issue which means the dreaded vest but his job security should be ok for the foreseeable future and can get over that $150k profit mark.

    Jamie Bennell (WCE) $123,900 Avg 52 BE: -30 PP: $135k @55avg/8games

A smoky in the pre-season but seems to have secured a spot. Unfortunately for us he's been played as a small defender and would be fantasy irrelevant if not a rookie. He'll most likely keep playing games but is unlikely to do well enough to make you the money you need.

    David Ellard (CAR) $220,100 Avg 79 BE: -28 PP: $120k @70avg/8games

Been around a while he jumped out of the blocks in Round 1. As is usually the case he came crashing back to Earth with a thud last week so consistency is the major question. If he can turn out scores above 70 every week then he will start to make some nice coin but you have to be brave to take him his price and with other options about.

    James Aish (BRI) $187,300 Avg 69 BE: -26 PP: $150k @70avg/8games

A kid who's been hyped six ways to Sundays since his junior years and he should have a long year in Brisbane's midfield. Perhaps won't score as well as others if you want job security he's your man-child and if Brisbane go on a run his scores will improve too.

    Viv Michie (MEL) $172,600 Avg 57 BE: -11 PP: $115k @60avg/8games

A new team and plenty of game time available made him a popular choice pre-season but hasn't really started the season off well. If he keeps his current average up he's not going to make a lot of money so for the many that have him it's a bit of a concern. If Roos makes big changes he's one that could be dropped so be wary but as he is awkwardly priced there should be others higher up on your priority to grab if you don't have him.

    Sean Lemmens (GC) $117,300 Avg 40 BE: -11 PP: $120k @50avg/8games

Playing down back for Gold Coast but running off the flank and uncontested kicks hasn't translated well for his scoring. Can't see him holding his place in the side either so will be dropped sooner rather than later.

    Jimmy Toumpas (MEL) $240,800 Avg 71 BE: 0 PP: $100k @70avg/8games

A bit under the radar. A high pick last year with a pre-season under his belt and is putting in ok numbers at Melbourne. Unfortunately priced too high to generate any decent cash.

    Rohan Bail (MEL) $232,600 Avg 67 BE: 3 PP: $105k @70avg/8games

Average player in a terrible side and no guarantee of job security and way down the line of good rookie mids. Pass.

    RUCKS

Gone are the days where expansion clubs gifted us players in the rucks. Now there is a lot of slim pickings. None who have played 2 games but there are a few rookies fantasy relevant so I will go over them but it's mainly for your watchlist.

Daniel Currie (NTH) $123,900 Avg 65

After finally getting a debut this season he presented a reasonable forward target although a bit average in the ruck. When Tarrant and Daw become fit it will see his job security tested but for now should keep playing.

Tom Derickx (SYD) $123,900 Avg 41

Taken the number 2 ruck spot behind Pyke and is even seeing some game time. Unlikely to get game-time once Tippet is back he should start enough games until then, at least whilst Sydney don't have confidence in any of their pinch-hitters.

    Fraser Thurlow (ESS) 118,400

Hasn't played a game but a popular bench spot pre-season because of his F/R status he could get game time soon with all the injuries to Bomber's talls and especially if Ryder is out for a long time so keep watch on him.

    FORWARDS

There are options aplenty in the forward line so spoiled for choice. Unfortunately not a lot of them have stood out. Pre-season favourites like Rohan have disappointed or been vested, like Kennedy-Harris. So who's the best of them out of the 11 forward rookies on the bubble?

    Patrick Ambrose (ESS) $102,400 Avg 63 BE: -65 PP: $205k @65avg/8games

The best forward rookie out there and won't be surprised if he's the most traded in this week. An actual rookie-listed player who should keep playing with the talls who are out for Essendon so job security isn't a factor early on. Only knock on him is he's a key forward, and they're notoriously inconsistent but he is a mature-age recruit and doesn't need to score too high and should get near to $200k profit just by keeping to his average. Pat yourself on the back if you've got him, get him if you don't.

    Jarman Impey (PTA) $117,300 Avg 51 BE: -32 PP: $165k @60avg/8games

Playing across half back for now but can go forward. Very good pre-season showed his potential but is still raw at the real stuff. Has a chance to solidify his spot at half-back, especially if he can get more of the ball, and if he does, with his good ball skills should rack up the points. Reasonable job security and scoring potential compared to others. If he can bump up that average slightly and avoid the vests he can easily make $150k profit.

    Lincoln McCarthy (GEE) $123,900 Avg 49 BE: -25 PP: $115k @50avg/8games

Very raw still but fills a gap in the depleted Geelong forward line. Should maintain his spot for now at least until Motlop is back but won't be a prolific scorer and therefore his ceiling is very low. Someone you'd keep if you have bigger spotfires in your team but not necessarily one to grab over a few others.

    Sam Frost (GWS) $196,300 Avg 61 BE: -6 PP: $95k @60avg/8games

Playing as a defender whilst Davis and Mohr are out for GWS. With Mohr and Gilham to come into the side, can't see his job security as very high and as a KPD you should avoid anyway, especially at his price.

    Lewis Taylor (BRI) $117,300 Avg 35 BE: 0 PP: $185k @65avg/8games

Went off a lot of radars because of his lack of pre-season, it says something about how much Brisbane rate him that he was straight into the team (in the green vest). That low score will only be in his price calcs for one round so not a huge impact and at such a low starting price and the capability of scoring well compared to others, above $150k profit combined with his job security he is a rookie you should definitely be looking at, especially if you already have Ambrose.

    Michael Close (BRI) $123,900 Avg 33 BE: 6 PP: $110k @50avg/8games

A young KPF that squeezes into a rather thin Brisbane forward line. Had a good pre-season but hasn't quite made the leap to the big boys. Will only be around until McGuane gets back but could find himself out of the team sooner.

    Zac Merrett (ESS) $117,300 Avg 31 BE: 7 PP: $120k @50avg/8games

Not on the same level as his brother who's looking set for a breakout year, Zac is a quick small forward who's been green vested in both his games. With Winderlich coming back, doesn't look to be a place for him. Doubftul to be named or score well so avoid.

    Tim O'Brien (HAW) $123,900 Avg 32 BE: 9 PP: $110k @50avg/8games

Another young KPF getting game exposure. Not expected to be in the team for very long, grooming for more game time next season. Avoid.

    Jay Kennedy-Harris (MEL) $117,300 Avg 25 BE: 19 PP: $115k @50avg/8games

A pre-season favourite he hasn't been able to avoid the vest in any of Melbourne's losses. As a small forward you would think there's a spot in the team for him so job security isn't as bad as others but situation does need monitoring. If he can avoid the vest and score above 50 he should start making enough money to moo north of $100k profit.

    Gary Rohan (SYD) $176,200 Avg 42 BE: 20 PP: $110k @60avg/8games

Another favourite in the off-season, his high price offset by his apparent job-security. Unfortunately it hasn't really translated into anything but low scores and combined with coming off with an injury last week and getting vested in the process means many are looking to move him on and with good reason, he's not going to generate a lot of cash from now, even if he plays on. There are others who will be less of a risk to take and should generate more money for you.

    ON THE HORIZON

These are guys who've only played 1 game but you should look at as possibilities to bring into your side, especially if named on the weekend, they will be on the bubble come Rd 4.

Kade Kolodashnij (GC) DEF $197,300 Avg 54 PP: $115k @65avg/9games

Expensively priced, but there's not a lot of options down back and he looked good on the weekend. Should have job security and should make you some money.

Jeremey Laidler (SYD) DEF $161,800 Avg 95 PP: $195k @75avg/9games

A surprise omisson on the weekend after a good score against GWS. With Sydney's problems and being 0-2 he's a good chance of getting back into the side and if he gets 70+ then he will have a nice breakeven.

Jack Martin (GC) MID $222,300 Avg 9

NO, don't even think about it. Only listed here to warn you off him and to make sure if you do have him, get rid of him ASAP! :D

Josh Kelly (GWS) MID $212,300 Avg 58 PP: $170k @80avg/9games

Despite being a sub he looked very good when he came on. Definitely one to watch if he can break the vest and score 80+ a game which is a real possibility. May be priced out of him which is a shame.

Dom Sheed (WCE) MID $167,300 Avg 7 PP: $120k @60avg/9games

Was dropped after round 1 which isn't a great advertisement for his job security. Had a good game in the WAFL though so can't be too far away although may be a vest candidate.

Dylan Buckley (CAR) MID $133,800 Avg 86 PP: $200k @70avg/9games

Great score on the weekend and is a young mid ready to step up. Just be aware of the Ellard-effect. See how he goes next match against the Bombers.

    Jack Billings (STK) F/M $207,300 Avg 14 PP: $130k @70avg/9games

Will get game time this season but it will be intermittent so closely monitor the Saints.

So that's it! Covered a lot of players so you should have a good idea now to decide your trades. Let us know in the comments anyone that's been missed, or who you will choose to bring into your side (and who for!).
