Who's playing round 1 - Heppel,Mzungu,Richardson and Swallow are in every team for round 1 lockout. Will T.Lib find a place in the WB mid ? Will Callinan get elevated ? All preseason talk was Isaac Smith would be running on the wing round 1. But he's not performed in NAB. Who's the round 1 rookie smokey ? Which rookies get a starting spot ?
Think a lot of teams will have similar rookies TBH kalikoda. But the warning is don't push players out because they aren't selected R1 - people did this and missed Pods and Rocklobster last year. I think the key is to ensure you have the right structure and a few trades at the ready to ensure that you can get your hands on any good rookies that come through after your initial allocation. Trading early into a few of these will pay off down the track. So I'd say we need to once more destress and wait for the full NAB program to see itself through. Imagine what could happen in future years when teams run out cold for Round 1 (if they do away with the NAB program...) At least now we have time to assess the fresh meat before it's cooked.
Might add one name to that list. Watch them jump on! http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/afl/irons-has-right-mettle-for-promotion/story-e6frf9jf-1226014106597
The interesting thing with the GC rookies is you're going to have to rely soley on the preseason and guesstimates as to whether your rookies will play r2. Some are certanties but itd suck if 2/6 weren't selected. Two rules with rookies though I think: 1. Pods/Rockliff (as Lucas said) 2. Luke Shuey
Look for the mature aged rookies. They have a good chance to be selected and due to bigger bodies won't be omitted due to not being able to handle the big time. This list was put up by another TS member a few weeks ago: IAN CALLINHAN ADE 28 (R) CAMERON RICHARDSON NTH 23 F PAUL PUOPOLO HAW 23 D TENDAI MZUNGU FREO 25 F/M MICHAEL COAD GCF 27 D ISAAC SMITH HAW 22 F/M But there are others to be added. Like Duigan, who I think is quite old?
Some clubs will make final lodgements of their lists, including last-minute rookie elevation(s), in the coming weeks. Brisbane obviously have a couple of slots available after sacking Proud and Fevola during the off-season. Adelaide also has a slot available, and I think St Kilda does too.

Duigan from the Blues will get plenty of time this year. Carlton still undermanned in defense, and he seems the right stature.

Hard to come by good info in Sydney, knew some of the well known players background but the run down of their form in the VFL and Junior level, along with their stats, helps with knowing how they will handle the next step.
Key quotes from SC perspective: "If we can get David Swallow, Harley Bennell, Sam Day … if we can give them 12 games experience of AFL, I'd be very happy ... Some will last a game, some two, some three – we don't know. We're not putting ceilings on that because there are some freaks and looking right now, players like Swallow, Mav Weller, even Dion Prestia are mature boys and are probably going to last longer than a Jacob Gilbee. The big boys – Tom Lynch, Sam Day, Zac Smith, Tom Nicholls – are going to get battered and at some stage will flatten off" "Our mature-aged boys – Danny Stanley, Sam Iles, Daniel Harris and Michael Coad – aren't walk-up starts but with their experience and size of their bodies they're a better than average chance of getting in." "the one I was hardest on throughout the pre-season was Dion Prestia, our smallest player. He's someone I wouldn't have thought would see a lot of action but he's really bubbled up to the surface and has timed his run really well." On Toy: "He's going to be playing senior footy. He's certainly in our best 22 and he's one of those kids that if he gets to 12 games, that's great. Because of his limited preparation last year with school, he's probably more eight to 12 games rather than 12 to 14" Big wraps on Harris too. Very insightful stuff. Confirms what we already know and brings to light some new stuff.
