Gah! There used to be a post here that detailed exactly why this was a round of upsets. It was full of wit- really, a masterpiece would be under rating it a little I reckon... however, it seems that due to a cat related computer issue, I have lost this weeks review, but yanno- every cloud has a silver lining, and so if anyone wants to have a crack a being read by thousands and thousands, email me through a review of this round, and Ill throw in your guest post.
And Ben, no, "Collingwood are crap" will not qualify.
Alright, we have a guest post- thank you very much Johnny.
Well they say things come in threes and that was the case this round in terms of upsets. Friday night was the first where Essendon got up over the Dogs. The Dons seemed in charge for most of the match and their aggressive attacking style seemed to work. It looked like it could have been a blowout in the 3rd quarter, yet the Dogs rallied late and made a charge with a 6 goal to 3 last quarter eventually going down by 9 points. Ryder (119) produced the goods with 2 goals and 8 tackles. Stanton (119) provided alot of drive up back while the old stager Flecher (105) was very effective and is heading into Michael Tuck territory. Gumbleton was disappointing with 53. The best of the Dogs were Hudson 131, Hall 119 and Lake 118. Aker had a shocker with 45 and may face the axe in some SuperCoach teams and his real one !
Now down to the Cattery, you know that impregnable fortress down the highway Happy to say there was no upset here. The Cats did what was expected and easily accounted for the Demons to the tune of 54 points. In overcast and windy conditions it was a scrappy game at times. There was also just enough rain to curb effective ball use at some stages. It really was a case of the usual suspects for the Cats. For 3rd game in a row at Skilled Staduim Jpod 144 kicked 5 goals. Ablett 137 and Selwood 134 took care of a midfield which was missing their No. 1 & 2 recruits Scully and Trengrove. In my opion it would have been good for them to play against the best midfield in the competition in the hope of learning a few things. Their omission was seen by many as giving up hope of winning game before they even started. Hawkins 118 seems to be relishing his new role as back up ruckman and not being restricted to the forward line. There really was not much to write home to Mum about as far as the Demons were concerned. The only standout was Gysberts 95. He may be a good downgrade option in the midfield in weeks to come see how he goes next week providing he gets picked. Sylvia 84 was respectable while Watts 35 failed to fire.
Now for the second upset. Richmond beat the hapless Port to the tune of 47 points. Although no upset to Kevin Bartlett who had been running around tipping them all week The game was played in conditions rarely seen anymore with advent of roofs on stadiums and droughts. From all reports it was an absolute quagmire down there. Good old fashioned football at its best. For the first time this year Richmond had 5 players crack the ton. Tuck 162 starred and led the charges followed by Newman 114 Graham 112 Cousins 109 and Deledio 108 . Another player of interest was Webberley 48 . Cassisi 126 top scored for Port yet had few significant helpers. In a game that has seen the Tigers get their first win and also shutdown TAB market on when the Tigers would win their first game!
The 3rd upset of the round came when the Lions beat the Pies on Saturday night. The forward line fired with both barrels with Brown 76 and Fev 84 both scoring 4 goals each. While not getting big SuperCoach scores , these two were the difference in a close match. Collingwood led early yet the Lions kept surging and wrestled the lead back off the pies. Fevs snap at goal over his shoulder was the turning point and with the home crowd behind them the Lions saluted by 8 points. Top scores for Lions were Staker 148 and Power with 130. Rockliff 95 and Maguire 85 continue to do well. Rischitelli 54 would have let a few coaches down. The Pies were gallant in defeat and it was not through lack of trying from Thomas 134, Pendelbury 131 and Obrien 129. Would be hard to write something about this game without mentioning one word it starts with C and ends in S
The last game on Saturday saw the Saints take care of the Crows by 47 points. In a game the Saints really needed to win they did. They may just be the sleeping giant come finals time if they manage to get Roo back and fit. Coaches may want to save some cash and trades for that scenario if it does eventuate as they do have a very soft run home. Meanwhile Montagna was back to his best with 158. Goddard 148 had another great game and subsequently his price goes up another $28,500 after outscoring his break even again! Dal Santo 138 scored well and seems to be finding his feet after some inconsistent efforts over the year. Fisher 125 chipped in nicely as well. Main letdown for Saints was Dawson 46. As for the Crows anyone brave enough who still has Tippett 109 would be happy with that result. Van Berlo 94 and Maric chimed in with respectable scores in a losing side.
With all the upsets out of the way Sunday saw all the favorites get home for a win, just. The Hawks got up over the Swans in a thriller.Final margin 2 points and really could have gone either way. For those with Franklin 81 you may be relying on your bench again as hes been reported for high contact again! Have not seen incident so cant speculate on whether he will go or not. Top scores for Hawks were Rioli 130 Mitchell 128 and the ever reliable Hogde for a lazy 108. For the Swans Mumford starred with 136 back from suspension. He was supported by Hannebury with 111. Three main disappointing players for Swans were ROK 50, Grundy 55, Malceski 60 and all of them going down in value.
Carlton got up over Eagles by 29 points. Gibbs 192 was the highest scoring player of the round with an amazing 45 touches. Maybe he should go on the Footyshow more often Judd 142 and Murphy 136 also put in great performances. While despite LeCras 91 kicking 4 goals and Priddis 114 it was not enough to subdue the Blues.
The last game of the round and another favourite got up. Fremantle continued their winning ways and look set for a decent finals campaign. What would have taken some 214,757 coaches by surprise was the late withdrawal of Barlow. This meant that if you elected an emergency in the midfield he would replace his score. This may have tested alot of coaches depth in relation to their bench players. The best for Freo were Bradley 141, Duffield 125 and Ballantyne with 117. While the ever popular Sandi 90 and Pavlich 99 were very respectable. While for the 4th time in only 6 games Fyfe scored above 89 with 95 he is still rising in value and may prove very handy in the forward line as this has been a hard place to score well this year given the amount of injuries and suspensions that key forwards have suffered and us along with them
The top score for the week was 2592 while the overall leader is on 23416.
Anyways, to the other TS stuff-
The TS leagues are currently sitting in 17th, 36th, 49th, 50th, 114th places, meanwhile the TS Pinewarmers have jumped up to 19th! I think Im gunna need to pull my finger out a bit and start performing, else you guys are gunna catch us!
The highest score for the round was: 2,592 - But the sideways cup wasnt affected.
It was a tough week in tipping, but amazingly, 2 people managed to tip 7- well done guys!!
Im pretty sure I said this recently but... Carn Webber! Wonder how the rains gunna effect it.
