West Coast vs Geelong
Results: West Coast by 8 points, 14.12.96 to 13.10.88
In almost a replica of last week, we saw Geelong pull out an early lead- only for them to give it up in the first quarter, and never catch up. Though as with last week, a late game charge certainly put some heat on the game! Embley top scored for the Eagles with 32 touches for a 126SC, while big Harry Taylor top scored for the Cats with a very nice 123SC off just 23 touches. Nic Naitanui picked up 115SC off 24HOs, and I gotta say- Im really liking this kid. He still seems so genuine and appreciative of everything that hes earned thus far, I do hope that he can continue to ton up so that one day he can wear the TS strip again. 4th and 5th went to both Ling and Corey, both on a 114SC off 30 and 28 touches repsectively. Not too many disappointments from this game, except for Darling. His form of late has truely been going downhill- to the point where if you held him as coverage, youd have been better off downgrading him to well, anyone, and playing them.
Heroes: Embley, Taylor, Naitanui
Villians: Darling, Varcow, LeCras
Hawthorn vs Brisbane
Results: Hawthorn by 42, 16.9.105 ro 9.9.63
I was suprised when I flicked over to this game in the third to find Hawthorn with only their noses in front, so I guess it was little suprise to see them kick away so easily in the final quarter and run out 7 goal winners. This was also the first game we had Torcida bringing in the stats- and huge thank you from all of us mate- and if I do say so myself, his fingers move at a rate! Ladies, its quite a talent! Anyway, back to the game. Hodge went BAM. 31 touches and a goal for a very good 163SC. Miles ahead of the pack with "50-50 to play" Franklin posting a 132SC off 26 touches and 3 goals. Glad my semi-flulike state wasnt strong enough to trade him out and "beat the masses" for 2 weeks- that would have stunk! Gibson had a good game, 24 touches for a 130SC while Sammy Mitchell continues to pick up big numbers with a 129SC off 34 disposals. Top scoring for the Lions was Redden, his 32 disposals and two goals enough to score 127SC. A couple of poor games here, Suckers was down on his usual high standards for a 78SC while Adcock continues to Adsuck with a 66. Meanwhile, Shiels didnt get a 100DT+ for his first time in a while- shame shame.
Heroes: Hodge, Franklin, Mitchell
Villians: Adcock, I. Smith, Bewick
Gold Coast vs Sydney
Results: Sydney by 70, 15.16.106 to 4.12.36
I dont even have the heart to review this game. Gaz. Oh captain my captain, Oh lord of my armband. Iced up and injured in the first. Tried valiantly to come back on, so lets all hope he didnt do further damage. Scans should be out Monday, so lets all keep an ear out.
Heroes: OKeefe, Swallow, Reid
Villians: Lynch, Ablett, Matera
Essendon vs Richmond
Results: Essendon bgy 39 points, 15.15.105 to 9.12.66
Its funny how much difference a single day makes in football. Go back to last week, before both teams played- were you asked to predict to outcome of this game- it would have been a coinflip, heck, on the Bombers exposed form, they could have gone in as underdogs. Fastward a few hours, a huge upset and a huge loss later and suddenly the Bombers were thrust back up as firm favourites. On the scoreboard though, it was all Richmond early (Though inaccurate kicking did playa part), in fact they lead at the first three breaks. It wasnt until the final quarter, in which the Bombers put on 7.3 to Richmonds 0.3 that they put the game away. Stanton top scored for the Bombers, his 27 touches and 13 tackes making a 121SC. Newman led the way for the Tigers, with 22 touches he made a very nice 116SC. Heath Hocking scored a 113SC off just 18 touches while Foley made 112 off 19 disposals. It looks like Martin was well held to a 67SC while JRoo could only score 59SC off 10 touches and a goal.
Heroes: Stanton, Newman, Foley
Villians: Riewoldt, Marting, Deledio
Collingwood vs North Melbourne
Results: Collingwood by 117, 22.15.147 to 3.12.30
Wow, what a smashing. Collingwood came, Collingwood saw, Collingwood set an example to the rest of the completition. Watch Out. Pendlebury was very good, a huge 160 off 29 touches top scoring for the game. Daisy made for a 146SC off 26 touches and 3 goals while Goldstein top scored for the Roos, his 38 hitouts and 13 touches making for a 138SC. Hell be locked into my squad next year I reckon- hes becoming as premium a ruck as you can ask for. Dane Swan scored a 132SC off 39 touches, but a lot of that was in the second half when the head was off, whil Jarryd Blair rounded out the top5 with a 19 disposal 125SC. For disappointments, we can skip the Magpie column, and move straight over to the roos. Theres really no shortages over hear- but for a special mention, Drew Petrie- 5 touches mate. For shame.
Heroes: Pendlebury, Thomas, Swan
Villians: Petrie, Anthony, Harvey, North
Port Adelaide vs St. Kilda
Results: St. Kilda by 56, 17.7.109 to 8.5.53
When one thinks Port vs St. Kilda, the word one doesnt expect is excitement. I spose the best that could be said to us neutrals viewing at home is that it lived up to expectations! (zing! ) Dal Santo was fantastic though, 36 touches on his way to a ClubDeals winning 174SC. Hartlett picked up 32 touches for Port, making a very solid 155SC. McEvoy continues to be a freak- StKildaThunda, if you really captained him over Ablett youre more SCgod than man now as big Ben returned 142SC. Robbie Gray picked up 26 disposals for a tasty return of 125SC while Steven rounded out the top5 with a 26 touch, 109SC. On the villians front, there is just a single word that needs to be uttered, heck, he was my final upgrade for goodness sake and his inclution in my squad means Ive a ton on my bench this week. Samwald Fisher. 10 touches and 36SC. Shocking performance lad and I certainly hope that we see a return to pre-bye form soon!
Heroes: Dal Santo, McEvoy, Gray
Villians: Fisher, Fisher, Fisher
Western Bulldogs vs Carlton
Results: Doggies by 27, 14.12.96 to 9.15.69
Wow, not too many would have predicted this to happen- the Doggies on a 4 game winning streak, while Carlton- facing Collingwood- have a very real risk of carrying 3 in 4 losses into round 18. Definitely not the form you want to be carrying at this point of year, though still plenty of time to get that right. Callan Ward top scored with a 21 touch 121SC, while top scoring for the Blues was Gibbs with a 30 touch, 118SC. Matty Boyd picked up 25 touches and 12 tackles for a 116SC while 4th place was shared on 111SC. Griffen through 17 touches and Scotland through 25 touches. A strange game in which Carlton seemed to have more of the ball, but just couldnt hurt on the scoreboard was prehaps made worse by Jarrad Waite going down with just 3 touches.
Heroes: Ward, Boyd, Gibbs
Villians: Waite, Giansiracusa, Grant
So, copping the bullets of Petrie, Fisher and the Captain Gaz, I limped in with a 2112 this week- Im really hoping that its par, but Ive a terrible feeling that Ill be moving backwards a bit this week. How about you? What did you end up scoring?
Round 16 review.
