So, were fast closing in on the end of the year - Only two rounds to go before we put the cue in the rack for another year and take out our notepads for next year. I just want to remind you all that we be here- posting whatever tidbits of ifo we can dig up through the off-season, so dont forget to pop by every once in a while. Particularly if youre in one of the EPL comps- Joshy is still looking to keep up with discussions on that and Ill be getting the salary predictions up and about sometime this week- so keep an ear (eye) out for that.
Anyways, onto the review- we had a couple of good games, but thats certainly not how it started with the Bomber mercilessly put down by the pies to the tune of 98 points. Its been a tough two weeks for us Bombers, but thats not to take away from the Pies, theyre in ripping form at the minute and for there sake, hopefully peaking at the right time of the year. Cloke led the way kicking 5.5 for 143 (with a solitary handball), while Swan came a close second with 142 Benny Johnson tied with rookie Jarrad Blair for a might 133. The only Bomber in the top 10 was Watson with 119, those Hille did respectible with a 104. All in all though, it was a great night for anyone with a Pie in your team, except for Didak who scored 67 (I guess not *every* can score big though. )
Another thumping saw Carlton blaze away from the Tigers by 91 points. Led through the midfield by Juddy (146) and Murphy (137) made it tough for the tiges. Garlett put in a great 4.2 effort for 132. Funnily, Waite also kicked 4.2, had a few more touches and marks, but only managed 110. But thats Supercoach for ya. Warnock has hit his straps and is rewarding coaches who have been hit by the ruck injuries returning a solid 105. Tuck top scored for the Tigers with a 115 while Cousins was close behind with a 111. Down the other end of the spectrum, Lil Riewoldt struggled with a score of 40, and with his poor finish to the season might see him as a bargain leading into next year.
Fremantle V Sydney was a good game with the Swans blazing away in the final quarter to just about secure their finals birth. I dont want to say it but sadly injury looks to have taken its toll on the Dockers, but Im sure theyll come out next year better for the experience. I also believe that Harvey will have learnt a lot from the year and will get onto the resting bandwagon a little earlier- so I can definitely see at least, less gametime for the leagues premier ruck- definitely a consideration for next year. Speaking of premier rucks however, Mumford top scored for the game with a massive 175 points. Bet the cats are feeling a little silly right about now! Broughton scored a 144 and I reckon has done enough this year to warrent a purchase as a premium next year while Hanneberys 126 should be enough to see him walking home with the rising star for mine. Anyone know what his odds on that were at the start of the year? Goodes didnt win any fans with a 50, while Freos S. Hill continued his inconsistant season with a 30. Should be well priced next year and heading into the golden "breakout 3rd season"- definitely worth a looksee.
Saturday night thankfully saw the Bombers *not* be the biggest losers of the round- that honor went to the Dogs with a 101 drumming by the Cats. To be fair though, there was a certain amount of Flu ripping through the Dogs camp, so hopefully they can manage to get over that by the finals. I would love to see them at their best when it counts. As for the game, Gaz Jnr to scored with a great 154. Enright was right on his tail with a 152 while Selwood returned with a 142. Morris top scored for the doggies with a 134. Stevie J kicked a great 5.1 and brought home a solid 116 while in Cooneys abscence, Giansiracusa got a run in the mids and accumulated a solid 110. Pods came back to form with a 109- looks like the rest did him well. The bottom of the table saw a swag a 12 dogs take the bottom 12 spots with Higgins (54), Gilbee (54), Hall (50), Lake (38) and Johnson (12) being the biggest offenders.
Saturday nights other game was a heck of a lot closer with the Power knocking of the Eagles by a single point- despite the Coasters coming home with a wet sail. Matt Thomas stayed on his rollercoaster, top scoring with a 135. Big Cox top scored for the Eagles with a 126 while Kornesy rounded out the three with a 124. Shuey finally made it back, back with a bang scoring 110. For mine, that puts him in the elite company of Daniel Connors and Liam Anthony in punishing good coaches with bad luck. Strijk did pretty well with a 79, with NitNat will have coaches scratching their heads next year going up and down, but this time scoring a 66.
Sunday saw another humdinger as inaccuracy cost the Brownless Lions as much as being brownless cost us Supercoach. Please Mr. Voss, the word through the week was that hewas gunna miss-so be honest with us!! Richard Douglas top scored with 134 while Van Berlo put in his best game for the year. Power top scored for the Lions with a 124 and Clark bounced back with a 120. Between him and Tippett (115) and the rest of em, rucks will be a very interesting breed next year. At the other end of the scale, Vince and Knight both went off injured, scoring a 12 and 6 between them. Bargains for next year?
Another good game saw Hawthorn kick away in the second half to win by 3 goals. Still, Cam Bruce went completely mad- scored himself a 150. Burgoyne top scored for the Hawks with a 129 while Sewell pulled in a 127. Jamar continued his great form with a 110 while Peterson rewarded the coaches that held him with a 95. Aaron Davey put in the worst effort for the game with a 3 touch 11- which might make him good value in an improving Dees outfit next year.
The final game for the round saw the Sainters smash the Roos by 52 points. Roo completed his comeback with a fantastic 7.5 goal, 171 point performance. Goddard came next with a 139 while Jason Gram looked the goods collecting 34 touches and 123 points. Rawlings top scored for the Roos while my boy Lenny got a slightly dissappointing 98- Carn holey- sneak him in for a Charlie vote for me!! Montagna and Dal Santo disappointed with a 74 and 76 between them while Swallow put in a 71- which will help to lower his salary for next year.
Anyways, 2 more weeks to go how are we all going? Looking at the overall, its still ON with the top 4 positions all switching up positions. Looks like its coming down to the wire up there!
Also, just started the stats updating- should be ready soon.
