Wow, football is a funny game. If you had told me that Sydney would be on top of the ladder, by percentage over Fremantle, while the Dogs and Cats languished in 7th and 8th, by percentage over the Demons, I would have laughed.
But thats what this week has turned up. St Kilda losing to Port, Brisbane losing to Melbourne, Geelong to Carlton- it was a huge week for upsets! Heck you could probably through in Hawthorn in there as well as far as the bookies were concerned. (Though with their injuries, I think theyre a bottom 4 team with the Bombers, Richmond and Adelaide at the minute.)
Football is such a funny game! That said though, putting the call out early, I reckon the top 8 of right now is where its going to finish in round 22. Its just a matter of the order.
Port, while impressive on the weekend, I think were advantaged by both the home ground and the wet conditions bringing the Saints, and their precision playing, down to their level- while the Dees- though impressive thus far, will be interesting to see if they can keep up their intensity (and dont have the homeground advange that the Dockers will have to fall on as their younger guys get tired.)
Still, as a football fan, its been an integring season so far. Im looking forward to seeing it unfold.
Well start off with the results of the tipping for this week, funnily, picking the home teams this week would have netted you 7 points. I think next year I might just pick the home team for the first 5 rounds and see how it goes. Our to picker on TS was Jo again, picking 5 with Ryan Griffen as her top scorer. Loving her work
Anyways, this weeks review turned into a bit of an essay, so its over the break! - oh, and the Stats are updated!
<!--more-->
On to the games. Friday saw the Dogs destroy the Crows after an early challenge. Giansiracusa top scored with a 134. Looks like hes bottomed out with a 33 BE next week. Barry Hall mooed along with a 119- continueing to tick up nicely. Phil Davis, the MPP wonderkid, has put the question to all of us. Scored an 89, has a Breakeven of 107- and if used correctly, means that Ill be able to have Maguire/Waters covering for both my forwards and Defenders for the rest of the year. Which is very tempting. Personally, Im glad I held onto Hitchcock last week. Moles did nicely, getting named and knocking up a 91- adding $40k to his price. The other end of the spectrum saw Goodwin, Lake, Dangerfield and Murphy spuding it up for us.
Saturday saw the Swans, unsurprisingly, blow the West Coast out of the water with Nick Malsexi returning to his blistering form, top scoring with a 135. Grundy looks freaking delicious to MPP couple Davis, with another 130+ game, keeping his average about 100. Adam goods broke the ton, but still looks another week or two away from bottoming out. Great for either a Mid or Forward upgrade, meanwhile ROKs fall has begun, with a BE of 174 next week. Cox continued his return to form with a tasty enough 87. Looks ripe to pick up either this week or next I reckon. Spud watch saw LeCras put up a massive 13- dissappoint both me, and his family. Shame LeCras, shame.
Saturday night however, saw the upsets begin. First Melbourne dominated the Lions, while Port scrapped out a win in the wet against the Saints. Simon Black top scored for the lions with a 133, while Jack Trengrove has officially announced his arrival with a massive 129. Should be perfect for a round 10 upgrade if he keeps throwing in those kind of games. Sylvia looks looks beautiful and holds a 61 BE moving into his first price change while Maguire finally picked up a positive BE after scoring another delicious 93. Brennan leads off the spud watch for this game with a 54, Rockliff disappointed many of the coaches that picked him up, but still increased his salary by $65k, while big John Brown put up a disappointing 39. The injury question marks are going to be ripe this week with rumours of an abdominal injury, a groin injury or the more scarifying, dreaded OP.
Port knocked off the Saints with Rodan winning himself a TV 2 weeks back from a knee reconstruction. Seriously impressive work and an amazing example to anyone else who does a knee. Just amazing! Dal Santo and Hayes scored themselves a 65 and 62 respectively, so should be ripe and ready in a couple of weeks time. Meanwhile Lobbe had his first hitout for the year with a respectible 44 and Milne made SuperCoaches the country over smile with his -2. Couldnt have happened to a nicer bloke.
Sunday saw the Anzac match and really, saw the Bomber embarrass themselves. Taite Pears top scored for the dominated bombers, playing the final quarter with broken arm. What a star. The rest of the leaderboard was all Pies with Cloke, Pendlebury and Diddles taking the top three places. Didak looks to have bottomed out, so its time to get on him if you can. Jolly once again scored well, rewarding those coaches who held onto him. Swan put up a 78, so should be dropping to the low 500s in a couple of weeks. Neon Leon however continues his slide with a 45, breakeven of 167 and will be under $500k before bottoming out.
North won over the Hawks by 2 straight kicks, but it was the Hawks who dominated the SuperCoach scores, with 4 of the top 5 players, 7 players breaking the ton. Franklin hit a ton while Wells and Harvey continue to reward their coachs. Cunnington put up a 60 in his first game while Peterson and Bastanic disappointed their coaches.
Richmond tried continuing the upset trend, with a 5 goal lead in the first quarter, but just couldnt hold back the rampaging dockers who had 37 scoring shots. Sandilands dominated with a 145 while Barlow came back into form with a 132. Martin scored his first ton, which couldnt have come at a better time. Hell be ripe for selling in the next few rounds. Meanwhile Ballantyne did deliciously with a 117. Sucks to anyone who traded him out after his efforts against the Saints and Cats- they were always going to be hard games.
Finally, the Blue baggers lead the Cats for the entire game in one of the bigger upsets of the year. Still, they couldnt keep Gaz from scoring a 171- though Judd and Scotland tried, with a 143 each. There were 7 more players to crack the ton while Selwood, Kelly and Murphy just missed out. Enright put in his first real bad one for the season, so should fall in price for a bit. Meanwhile Byrnes seems to be copying the Bulldogs Robert Murphy, to the extreme with to great games to start the season and two absolute shockers!
The TooSerious leagues are currently sitting in 10th, 14th, 41st, 47th, 78th.
The notable regulars are AJ, whos dropped to second, WindyHillWizard, who jumped up to 14th. Spudlers Battleaxe got himself up to 48th, while the Mash Sticks are sitting in 33rd.
The Sideways cup saw 5 teams put up a score into the top 20, but not one of them could knock off the still current leader from round 2. Massive early score that one!
Now, to anyone who has read down this far, a couple o fhouse keeping announcements. Firstly, theres been a number of posts recently by spammers which copies an other post in order to get past the spam filters. This as you would imagine is very effective and oh so painful for all of us. So if there is anyone out there that wants to help with the moderating since I cant always be here- send me an email, thatd be great.
Also, on the Nickname post from earlier- youll find a new button on the players pages- "add a nickname" - this will enable you to enter in a nickname for players into a moderation queue for me to pick and choose from. Ill try to upload as many as I can from the nickname thread, so well see how I go. The big plan is that the upcoming search functionality will search based on players names and nicknames.
Cheers everyone- hope you had a ripping week out there! Let me know!
