Looking around the grounds I see terrible score after terrible score- reckon youve done well this week if you break 2k! Its been a horrible shocking week in which premium after premium has just plain failed, failed badly!. That said, for the few lucky coaches that managed to avoid the Goodes, and Roos of the round, theres a lot of ground to be made up.
Full review over the break...

The SuperCoach massacre started innocuously enough on Thursday night with the Eagles playing host to the Demons, and boy- the Dees just didnt show up, falling 5 goals down in the opening term and finishing the game 9 down. Priddis top scored for the Eagles with a 142SC off 33 touches with Bix Cox securing 131SC of 23. Both options were good value as the captains loophole, and many coaches would have been locking them in Ebert got a very nice 116 while Butler (107) and Embley (101) also broke the ton. Darling is looking a magnificent pick up adding 100SC to his totals and kicking 3 majors, while Grimes top scored for the Dees with a 96. Plenty of dissapointments though, with Gaffs 12SC, Tapscotts 51SC and Green with 48SC hurting there coaches a bit.
So, roll around Friday night- the full lockout takes effect and the pain begins. Mumford top scored for the night with a 159SC off 12 touches and 43 hitouts. Judd scored a 154SC off 33 touches in a game winning performance- definitely good for the 3 brownlow votes here (and while mentioning the brownlow, dont forget to get you tips in before Holeys article! ). A bit of a drop to Betts with the third highest score of 114SC with 4 goals and Murphy whos 25 touches made him 110SC- it did come at a cost though with a shoulder looking to have him out for 1-2 weeks. Could mean a donut for a few coaches. Kennedy rounds out the top5 with a solid 108 off 28 possessions. But after that, we start the bad news- Jacks injury saw him score a 70SC, but also saw OKeefe taking up the Judd tag, turning his early good form into a lowly 65SC. Worse still was Goodes who struggled to take marks in the wet weather and fielded a 47SC. On the Blues side, Gibbs role on Goodes saw him score a 69SC- worrying signs if he cant get back into the middle, while the weather effected Duigan who went more often with the non-scoring punch rather than the lucrative contested grab from an opposition kick that has been his bread and butter. Curnow managed an admirable, though career low, 83SC which really, is all we could have hoped for!
Come Saturday, and a bit more pain- not too bad compared to the other games this week, but still- Goldstein top scored for the game with a mighty 149SC, score one for the Ticker , which Harvey continued his great for against the Power with a 129SC with 3 goals. Hartlett was again the shining hope for the Power with a very tidy 125 off 29 disposals. Grima (105) and Brogan (101) round out the top5 in a game that was fairly well dominated by the Roos, 43 scoring shots to 23. Swallow did well considering how poorly he started, finishing the game on an 85SC, Petrie the same, but only managed 68SC while Chaplin could keep up his recent good form with a 59Sc. On the rookies front, Pittard kept performing with a solid 71, while Atley continued his slow burn with a 58SC.
Saturday night started with a fantastic struggle at the G. Close early, the Tigers took out an early lead, though showing a lot of heart, the Lions managed to claw it back and take it- before the Tigers dug deep, and kicked away to walk out 4 goal winners. Nahas was the start, with 3 goals and a 149SC- heck, #nahas was even trending in Melbourne! Foley gave the bird to all those coaches who traded his out, amassing a mighty 40 disposals on his way to a 143SC. Dustin Martin, who had the lions share (92) of the first quarter, fell away throughout the game, but still- a 128SC is a fantastic return for a second year player. Between him and Fyfe- the theory of the second yearer might be getting rewriten. Houli was magnificent for the Tigers collecting 30 touches for 121SC.With the exception of Mitch Clark and his 34SC, there werent too many poor premiums in this game. Batcelor (23) and Polec (18) however were very disappointing which will make their cash generation pretty limited for the next few weeks.
The other game on Saturday night saw Adelaide put another nail in the St Kilda 2011 seasons coffin, walking out 19 point winners after letting the Saints back in it late in the game. Though he lost, Dal Santo put in a magnificent performance collecting the pill 29 times for a very nice 150SC. After that though, it was all Adelaide with *both* Thompsons fronting up for a 126SC. Chris Knights rewarded his coaches faith with a couple of important goals for a 121SC while Douglas rounded out the top5 with 2 goals of his own and 21 touches for 119SC. Supercoach favorites all over this game disappointed with Goddard securing a suprisingly high 96SC, Montagna (80), Johncock (76) and Riewoldt with a terrible 47SC hurting. Smith (69) and McKernan (67) both did prety well for their coaches while Wright came out after his first-game 25SC with a very solid 87SC- hello watchlist!. Cripps (41), A. Smith (36) and Johnson (14) just havent done enough to be looked at yet, though hopefully Winmar and his DPP status can catch Lyons eye soon! Finally a potentially season ending injury for Davis, while horrible for the bloke, could see Luke Thompson holding his spot for a good while yet, so Bulla! to all those who traded him in this week.
Sunday started off, and the Suns put away their guernseys from last week, and broke out the good ol Witches hats again for another episode of the GC show. A ridonkulous first quarter saw the Dons kick 15.4 94 to 0.1 1 in a record breaking first quarter. From there, it was just a formality as the Dons added another 103 to finish up 139 victors. Kyle Reimers was the star of the show with a career high 8 goals and 147SC.
Stanton got 33 touches for a suprising 141SC while Howlett collected 29 touches for 140SC. Watson with some good work had the pill 35 times and 122Sc while Hooker managed a 118SC. In fact, there were 10 Bombers to break the ton while the only ton the GC managed was Brennan on 100. Ablett showed a worrying trend tonight, 30 touches for only 95SC is lending credence to what we all feared- not enough pie for a team that will get smashed week-in week-out. That said though, outside of Materas 38SC and Smiths 43SC, there was plenty to smile about- Heppell played a full game and managed 84SC while Hibberd looked very good in the few times the ball went back, enough to score a 68SC. Swallow (82SC), Stanley (76), Harris (75) and Toy (72) were all fantastic considering the shelacking, while Iles approches the bubble with a 54, a 67 and a -39BE - so he could be a great DG target with some solid job security and decent enough scores.
The final game for the round saw the Pies take on the Dogs- looking at the final scores, its almost unthinkable that the scores were level 5 minutes into the final quarter, before the Pies said no more and piled on 8 goal to almost double the Dogs total score for the game. Now, Lucas correct me if Im wrong, but a 3rd quarter in which they seem to take the foot off the gas, before blowing the opposition away in the 4th. Its almost as if its a measure to counteract the one less interchange. The highest scorer for the game was Leigh Brown whos late 4 goals set the scene for the Pie dominance scored him a 128SC. Sidebottoms 28 touches and 3 goals saw him secure a very nice 117SC. Next was Krakouer, who scored a massive 119SC off 26 possies, cant see him getting dropped after that kind of full game performance! (And whats this Krak to Jack trade Im hearing about! ), Shaw and Griffen fill out the next two spots with a score of 116SC. Really, Im still in shock at just how good the pies were in the last, ominous signs for the rest of the "mortal" teams! The late omition of Tarrant saw Buckley come into the side as the sub, and a first quarter injury to Johnson saw him get on early-ish, however, that wasnt enough for Buckley to get any more than 34SC- that said, Dawes (55), Didak (66), Ward (62) and Lake (44) didnt do any better when considering their price. The latter of which is going to be magnificent value if he starts getting back to his ball getting ways.
We got an update on Jacobs from Bearfly today for the Port v West SANFL game, and I quote "looking a very good chance to make his AFL debut soon after todays first senior SANFL match - 14 kicks, 8 h/balls, 1 mark, 1 tackle, 1 clearance, 7 I-50s, 2 R-50sx" - This is great news as with both him and Hibberd looking to secure a fantastic D/M link for the later half of the season!
Anyways, I got the post up early this week cause I got my ... stuff ... together, so Ill get the league and other assorted details into the post when lockout opens.
Until then though, how did you go?! Dodge the bullets and score a 2300? Or are you as hole ridden as us coaches that struggled to make a 1900 this week (or yanno, 1881 for those at home, painfully counting their holes! What a horrible week!)
