Heres a look at the weekends games, join me over the break...<!--more-->
Man United v WBA
WBA, Wolves, Fulham, Blackburn, QPR, Wigan, Villa & Everton. That’s United’s opponents before they face City towards the end of the season. It makes for nice reading for United supporters. This week though, WBA might not be straightforward. They’re off the back of 5-1 (Wolves), 4-0 (Sunderland) and 1-0 (Chelsea), impressive stuff.
United picked up three more points against a Spurs side that have been educated on what it takes to win a title ie go to one of your rivals, take a pumping, give platitudes to your opponents, as you head off up the road with three points in the bank.
Rooney is hot just now, while Young scored twice and assisted last week.
Arsenal v Newcastle
It’s been a relatively good week for the Gunners. A comprehensive 3-0 against Milan, that wasn’t quite enough to see them through in the UCL, as well as a 2-1 at Liverpool where RVP was the difference. Van Persie has now scored the winner for Arsenal on 10 different occasions this year.
Pardew – who may or may not have calmed down since his “<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l-B0HwOkkH4">get it right up you[/url]” to O’Neill in last week’s fiery derby clash – will be desperate not to lose and keep pace with the Gunners for fourth place. They have a poor record in London though and will do well to reverse that.
Newcastle have Lovenkrands out for the season, while Arteta should return for the Gunners.
Everton v Spurs
Redknapp surprisingly played VDV, Bale and Lennon in their midweek FA Cup replay versus Stevenage. Lennon was taken off with a hammy. Dawson is probably out for the season. They dominated Man United last week but unfortunately for them dropped more points. Arsenal are now only four points behind them.
Everton will be aiming to continue their good run and have Rodwell and Osman available again.
Chelsea v Stoke
Di Matteo has JT and Cole both available for his first league match in charge. He started Torres midweek in the Cup with Mata sitting in behind. Lampard and Sturridge sat on the bench midweek but will most likely come back in.
Stoke always enjoy a scrap and should be well up for this one. Wilkinson and Delap are both doubtful.
Bolton v QPR
A huge match for these relegation candidates. Rangers have Cisse and Diakite available after suspension while Luke Young is available after a hamstring complaint. Taarabt is doubtful.
Bolton have the worst home record not only in the EPL but in the country. They’ll look to improve on it as they have an excellent run of fixtures coming up. Miayaichi has looked good in a short space of time for Bolton.
Villa v Fulham
Fulham have won their last three games. Dempsey and Pogrebnyak have played their part. Villa haven’t won at home for seven if it goes to eight it’ll be the first time since 1921. They were good value for their point at Rovers last week without the services of Dunne and Bent and they’ll need to do without them for a while yet.
Swansea v Man City
Sigurdsson bagged himself a brace last week as Swansea gained a valuable away win at Wigan. Dyer will miss out for three though after last week’s red.
Huge blow for City as they head to fortress Liberty without Kompany who misses out with a calf injury. Zabaleta is also injured but Richards should recover in time to replace him. City have breezed their last two home games but it’s away from home that they’ve struggled a bit this year and they’ll do well to walk away with three points.
Sunderland v Liverpool
Sunderland have a few injury concerns that could see Bridge play. They also have Sessegnon (three games) and Cattermole (four) out after the fiery North East derby last week.
Liverpool put up a good show last week but ultimately RVP was the difference. They’ll be boosted by the return of Gerrard and Johnson though. Agger remains out with his cracked rib.
Wolves v Blackburn
Terry Connor was brought crashing back down to earth with last week’s capitulation at Fulham. Club captain Roger Johnson reacted to this by turning up for work on the Monday looking “worse for wear”. He is in the squad though as is Steven Fletcher. Henry is out with a hamstring.
Blackburn were a touch fortunate to get a point last week, when David Dunn came off the bench to score the equaliser. Apart from Salgado, they have a full squad to pick from. Yakubu might fancy his chances this week.
Norwich v Wigan
Moses, Diame and Rodellega all started last week’s shocker on the bench and will be hopeful of starting this one. Wigan are really struggling for form with one win from 13.
Lambert took his team to Spain for a week of sun and hard work to try and rejuvenate after three straight defeats. A home game against the bottom team is not a bad place to start hitting the winning trail again.
