Would you believe it…. City are now top. Are they going to throw it away this week at St James’ against a Newcastle team also desperate for points. Join me over the break….<!--more-->
Newcastle v Man City
The FA Cup final might be on this weekend but this is absolutely a cup final for both teams here. Newcastle are only 1pt behind Arsenal in 3rd place after a brilliant 2-0 win at Chelsea midweek. Cisse scored another two wonder goals (13 goals in 12 games) to seal the win. Tiote was stretchered off in the game.
Man City are top!! Two more wins and the title is theirs, what a turnaround. They’ve got to do it from here haven’t they?
Tiote could be available despite a nasty blow to the head midweek.
Blackburn v Wigan
It’s last chance saloon for Blackburn here as they face the rampant Latics who aren’t yet safe from relegation.
Wigan are certainly the form team and took four off Newcastle last time out, so will be favourites – but relegation clashes bring out exceptional performances and Blackburn need two of them.
Arsenal v Norwich
Arsenal are now sitting a solitary nerve-shredding point above both Spurs and Newcastle and therefore 5th place. Norwich, in theory, shouldn’t cause too many problems, and really Arsenal’s desperation for points should see them through. Walcott might be back before seasons end.
Man Utd v Swansea
Oh dear! 4pts from 4games and all of a sudden from being 8pts clear United are now relying on others doing them a favour.
Swansea, who have already passed luminaries like Arsenal off the park, this season won’t lie down either. Especially after Mancini’s motivational speech that this would be an easy game for United.
United must win this or will most likely relinquish the title to their bitter City rivals. Evans and Welbeck are out.
Villa v Spurs
This is another intriguing fixture as CL chasing Spurs play Villa, who steadfastly refuse any help from other relegation threatened teams by continuing their wretched form. They’ve scored once in five and have 2pts from 15.
In the reverse fixture McLeish played two RBs to try and combat Bale who in turn tore both RBs a new one. He’s capable again with another couple of assists in the midweek 4-1 demolition of Bolton. Parker is expected to be fit. Herd, Collins and Delph took their mind off things by getting into a rammy in the wee small hours midweek.
Wolves v Everton
Everton will be expecting to continue their excellent run which has led to the annual press reports that Moyes will be taking over at OT after Ferguson retires. Jelavic has been red hot and should add to his recent haul against a leaky Wolves defence. Neville is out. Wolves still haven’t won since Connor took over.
Bolton v WBA
Fabrice Muamba was back at The Reebok for the first time since his cardiac arrest. Unfortunately he saw Bolton take a 4-1 thumping. Reo Coker could miss but Steinsson could return. James Morrison could be back for WBA. Roy Hodgson will be looking for a win otherwise the English media will no doubt tear him apart for his audacity in taking Redknapp’s England job. It’s a must-win for Bolton of which they actually have a decent record.
Fulham v Sunderland
There’s a few outstanding fixtures over the weekend. This isn’t one of them! I’ll still keep an eye on it though to see if Dempsey can add to his goal tally.
Andy Johnson will miss out while O’Shea and Bendtner are doubtful. Mignolet is tipped to reclaim his spot from Craig Gordon.
QPR v Stoke
Sorenson has been promised the last two games in preparation for this summer’s Euros, so Begovic misses out.
Taarabt is available after suspension but Diakite could miss out after a virus.
QPR are currently sitting outside the relegationzone… just, but with a trip to Man City next week they have to pick up points here.
Liverpool v Chelsea play Wednesday but have the small matter of the FA Cup final first
