What a season! What a finish! 1 game to go and yet there is still five games with something to play for. Theres a lot of questions needing answering tonight. Can City win their first title since 1968? Or will Hughes do his (other) old club a favour and take immeasurable delight in robbing his nemesis of glory? Will Spurs players come down with food poisoning before a last day fight for CL qualificaiton .... again? Whos the greatest miracle worker at Wigan? Martinez or Moses? Dunno about anyone else but Ive got my stash of Red Bull at the ready. It all kicks off at midnight tonight (Sunday). Cant wait. Read more over the break....<!--more-->
Man City v QPR
So it all comes down to this game. A City victory and they’ll win their first title since 1968. Man City with 17 wins and 1 draw from their 18 home games and QPR with the worst away record in the league. It should be a banker….
QPR however, are still in deep trouble and are fighting for their PL lives, knowing that a defeat could send them down. Cisse was the hero last week with a last minute winner and he is the type of player that can save QPR with some magic.
Barton, Onuoha and manager Mark Hughes are all going back to their old hunting ground and wouldn’t Sparky love the chance of robbing Mancini of the title.
City have a full squad but Diakite and Helguson are doubts for QPR.
Sunderland v Man Utd
This game might well come down to meaning the square root of sweet FA, depending on what happens at Eastlands. However, as all games commence at the same time Utd will be hell-bent on wiping the floor with Sunderland just in case.
Smalling and Evans will miss out at Centre Half and Welbeck is out while Carrick is doubtful with illness.
Chelsea v Blackburn
Chelsea’s hopes of finishing fourth are over after their abysmal performance and result at Anfield midweek. Ivanovic and Terry especially had a shocker but both should play here as they’re banned for the UCL final. Ramires and Meireles too. Drogba may be rested again so it gives Torres another opportunity to get on the scoresheet. Blackburn are down after a tumultuous season. Robinson could miss out with injury.
Wigan v Wolves
Due to Wolves freefall and Wigan’s Championship-winning form this one is now a dead rubber. Wolves are down. Wigan are up. On form this game can only go one way with Moses the most likely to do some damage. No injury concerns for Wigan while Berra and Kightly could miss to add to Wolves mountain of injuries. Terry Connor takes charge for the last time before Stale Solbakken takes over.
Everton v Newcastle
Danny Simpson will miss again as Newcastle chase their faint hopes of a Champion’s League place. Ben Arfa and Cabaye will be lifted by their inclusion in France’s extended Euro 2012 squad. Everton could welcome back Baines, Gibson and Neville.
Spurs v Fulham
Parker is doubtful for this one, while Assou-Ekotto is out and his replacement Danny Rose is suspended after a shocking challenge saw him sent off last week.
With Spurs chasing third, VDV in form and Fulham missing the influential Dempsey, Spurs have a chance of finishing with a flourish.
WBA v Arsenal
Brunt is out for West Brom so Morrison could get a starting spot after injury, Odemwingie should also return after injury as WBA try to send off Hodgson with a win as he’ll likely not see any during the summer.
Sagna will be missing after suffering a broken leg last week which could see Coquelin return to the starting XI. However, Walcott could return from injury as Arsenal know that defeat and most likely a draw will mean missing out on 3rd.
Stoke v Bolton
Bolton must win this and hope that Man City take care of QPR. The latter part looks likely but a trip to the Brittania isn’t particularly enticing. They can take comfort from the fact that Wigan came here the last day of last season needing a win and getting it.
Petrov will be available despite last week’s knock. The impressive Chung-Yong Lee is available again but both Mark Davies and Reo-Coker are doubts.
Swansea v Liverpool
Swansea looked like they suffered a little stage fright at Old Trafford last week and will look to make amends this weekend against the Reds. They’ve already taken a point off Liverpool this season at Anfield.
Sigurrdson looks likely to play his last game for Swansea as they look unable to afford him permanently.
Liverpool had an excellent 4-1 victory over Chelsea midweek, Gerrard missed out and may well miss out again.
Andy Carroll should get another gig after impressing in that game as the English media clamour for him to now go to Euro 2012.
Norwich v Villa
Norwich impressed recently at The Emirates and will look to sign off with a home victory against Villa. Meanwhile, Villa haven’t impressed for a looonng time. Hutton is out after a two footed knee-high lunge on him ruptured his knee ligaments. Gabby Agbonlahor should return though for this pretty meaningless fixture, for the outsider anyway.
