It was another absolute humdinger of weekend EPL action. So many sub-plots as well.....Everton winning their first two league games of an EPL season since 1783. Wigan earning their second straight away clean sheet since the year dot. And Rooney reacquainting himself with a nasty gash for the first time since "Grannygate" a few years ago. Join me over the break for more....<!--more-->
Liverpool v Man City 2-2
Clichy, Lescott, Silva and Rodwell all dropped out for City with Kolarov, Kolo Toure, Milner and Nigel De Jong coming in. While Liverpool started with the impressive 17yr old Raheem Sterling ahead of Downing and Kelly again started at the expense of Enrique and Coates replaced the suspended Agger.
Skrtel scored with a thumping header from a Gerrard corner while Suarez scored a sublime free kick after a handball. Yaya (Tevez assist) and Tevez got City’s goals. Nasri played 54mins before making way for Rodwell allowing Toure to play further forward earning instant reward. On 61mins Dzeko replaced the ineffective Balotelli. Silva came on for Milner with 15mins remaining. Allen, Sterling, Tevez and Suarez all impressed.
Chelsea v Newcastle 2-0
Terry missed out with a neck injury while Ramires and Lampard were both benched with the latter most likely rested as Chelsea played their third game in a week. Bertrand, Luiz and Meireles all came in. Sturridge spent the game on the bench.
R Taylor was again on the bench for the Geordies. Ba and Ben Arfa were probably Newcastle’s best players while Cisse was quiet.
Torres and Hazard were the creators and scorers of Chelsea’s goals. Of Chelseas 8 goals this season Hazard has scored one and assisted 6 of them. He has also scored 10 out of 10 penalties in league football. Chelsea are now sitting proudly on top of the table leading into their free week.
Stoke v Arsenal 0-0
Mannone took over in goals from the injured Szczesny as Arsenal clocked up a second clean sheet. Giroud, Gervinho and Podolski started up front with Cazorla dictating play. Walcott and Oxlade-Chamberlain looked decent when they came on.
Stoke didn’t really offer much in a dour game where Geoff Cameron made his debut in place of the suspended Whitehead.
Spurs v WBA 1-1
Vertonghen came in for the injured Kaboul to partner Gallas while VDV replaced Sigurdsson in the starting line-up. When Sigurdsson did come on (for Sandro) he assisted for BAEs goal. New signing Adebayor came on for VDV after 62mins. Lukaku came off the bench and had an impact. Odemwingie missed with injury while last week’s scorer Gera was dropped. Dorrans and Fortune came in. Morrison was the scorer for WBA after 90mins. A decent showing from both teams.
Man Utd v Fulham 3-2
Rooney was dropped to the bench before coming on to sustain a 4wk(edit poss 2mth injury) injury. Rafael was restored to the line up and scored while the returning Young and also Evra got some assist action. RVP and Kagawa both scored on their home debuts.
Petric was unlucky not to score before Rodallega replaced him on 72mins. Duff (Ruiz assist) and Vidic OG were the Fulham scorers and really they could’ve scored more as Carrick continued in the CB position next to Vidic. Jonny Evans was on the bench which would suggest he’s not far off though.
Swansea v West Ham Utd 3-0
Swansea briefly went top of the table after this canter. 2 games, 2 wins, 8 goals scored, 0 conceded. An incredible and unlikely start really. They seem to have goal threats all over the park also. The goals came from Rangel (due to a Jaaskelainen howler) Michu and Danny Graham with Dyer and Routledge again providing the assists. Scott Sinclair has now left for Man City while Ki Sung-Yueng has arrived from Celtic.
West Ham, who have signed the excellent Matt Jarvis from Wolves, were pretty poor all round.
Villa v Everton 1-3
This is the game that has had Evertonians screaming “Champions League”. They’re now 11 league games unbeaten and are looking excellent at the moment. Pienaar, Fellaini and Jelavic all scored. Naismith in his first start in English football had an assist as did Jagielka and old favourite Baines. Jelavic now has 10 goals in 15 games.
New signing Mirallas came on for his debut with 20mins to play & like last week both Coleman and Heitinga came off the bench.
The game was a disaster for Villa who didn’t have a shot for 45mins. Holman (came on at HT)and Ireland were on the bench. Clark was sent off in the second half and El Ahmadi scored a consolation. A wake up call for Paul Lambert.
Norwich v QPR 1-1
QPR sent out a lot of attack-minded players to try to atone for last weeks 5-0 pumping. Park Ji-Sung, Cisse, Mackie, Hoilett and Zamora all started. There was no room at any point for Taarabt or SWP.
Also off the back of a 5-0 embarassment were Norwich who had Bassong making his debut. Ruddy saved a Cisse penalty but Zamora followed up to score. Jackson scored for Norwich from another Pilkington assist.
Southampton v Wigan 0-2
Saints were given a stark warning of what to expect this season as Wigan ruthlessly picked them off. Captain Lallana & Lambert were Saints best performers while Rodriguez played 76 mins.
Di Santo scored from a Maloney assist & Kone - who struggled a bit during the game- somehow got away with a blatant trip on Fonte before running 50mtrs & finishing with gusto. Thems are the breaks though in the unforgiving world of EPL.
Sunderland v Reading .....Postponed due to British summer weather

I made a stupid, stupid schoolboy error that meant I had to take a 4pt hit to get Michu into my team. At least he did the business! My 68pts became 64 which just scraped me over the line in my H2H.
Let us know how youve all gone this week..
