Howdy all, It was a strange old week of action that wouldve left many tearing their hair out( thankfully not me though). All games are belatedly covered over the break....<!--more-->
Stoke v Sunderland
There’s not much can be read into this game as it had 0-0 written all over it even before kick off. Sessegnon was dropped to the bench until the 61st min when he replaced Larsson while Bardsley came on for the last 10mins after injury.
Stoke had Wilson stretchered off with a broken ankle. Huth couldve conceded a penalty he also may have scored. It was a poor game lacking incident. Move on.
Chelsea v Man Utd 2-3
Man Utd won their 1st game at The Bridge for ten years with more than a little help from the officials. Most notably an unjust 2nd yellow for Torres for diving as well as Chicharito’s offside winner.
RVP was again on fire with a goal and an assist, Chicarito came off the bench and followed up his midweek brace with a goal which surely puts pressure on Welbeck. David Luiz scored an unfortunate own goal. Valencia and Rafael with the other assists. Young started the match.
Ramires started with Lampard out injured and he scored while man of the moment Mata again scored. Oscar and Hazard provided the assists. Ivanovic also saw red and along with Torres will miss the midweek cup match. None of Hazard, Oscar or Mata finished the match but that was for tactical reasons after the red cards.
Man City v Swansea 1-0
Graham and Dyer both started the game on the bench as Michu again took his place as the lone striker. He had a couple of opportunities but was thwarted by Hart.
Man City were lacklustre and had Tevez to thank for the win. Nastasic started as out of favour Lescott stayed on the bench until the 90th min. Richards was taken off with a serious looking knee injury and Kolarov was also injured.
Vorm, who was also taken off injured, didn’t have a save to make until the 38th minute. Tremmel (4.0m) replaced him.
Wigan v West Ham 2-1
West Ham were again woeful away from home as Wigan deservedly won their first game at home for the season.
Ramis scored the opener with an outrageous volley from a Beausejour corner and McArthur topped off an excellent performance with the second (Maloney assist). Tomkins scored West Ham’s from a McCartney cross.
Carroll was isolated while a rare start for Benayoun only lasted 45 mins. Demel was still injured. A tough run of games coming up for the Hammers.
Newcastle v WBA 2-1
For the 2nd week in a row it was a late goal that killed West Brom. It was tough on them as they deserved at least a point. Lukaku – who started alongside Odemwingie – was influential and scored WBA’s goal before being replaced by Long. Dorrans also played well.
Ba was again on the scoresheet and Pardew will hope that Cisse’s fortunate goal will kick-start his season. Williamson again played at the expense of Steven Taylor. Ba is a big doubt for this week after coming off injured.
Southampton v Spurs 1-2
Bale and Dempsey got the goals against the weak Southhampton defence as they ran riot in the 1st-half. Bale and Lennon looking especially dangerous. Defoe blew a good few chances before being replaced by Sigurdsson on 78mins. While Friedel and Caulker remained in the starting 11.
For Soton, Lambert was recalled and Boruc continued in goals. Lambert and Rodriguez had chances to equalise but Spurs hung on for their 5th win out of 6. Wigan at home next week for Spurs. With Southampton being Bale’s old club he refused to celebrate so we were spared what must be the wankiest celebration in football.
Everton v Liverpool
On celebrations, Suarez had the best one of the week with a dive in front of Moyes who’d criticised him midweek for his diving. With impeccable timing Phil Neville chose this game to try his hand at diving in what can only be described as pure comedy gold.
Suarez was entitled to enjoy his moment though as he was the star performer with a goal and assist. Even had an injury-time winner wrongfully ruled out for offside. Gerrard with the other assist.
Glen Johnson missed out while Jose Enrique and Wisdom took their places and Brad Jones surprisingly kept his place.
Villa v Norwich 1-1
Villa are woeful at the moment, they’ve won only two of their last 17 matches at home and now face up to a cruel run of games that will surely see them slip into a relegation spot.
They took the lead against the run of play with Benteke slotting away after good work from Bennett, who was later sent off. Bannan and Ireland spent the game on the bench while Bent remained there for 69mins before replacing Benteke.
Grant Holt and Hoolahan were again the standout performers for Norwich. Hoolahan supplying the cross for Michael Turners goal. Snodgrass and Morison both came off the bench for the last 20+mins.
Arsenal v QPR 1-0
We knew it was coming but this was the day that Jenkinson got dropped for the returning Sagna. Wilshere also came back in after a 17mth injury lay-off essentially meaning Gervinho missed out.
Arsenal’s lack of confidence was apparent and it took 84mins for Arteta to score the only goal, Ramsey with the assist. Arsenal’s forwards continue to struggle though. Walcott surprisingly remains on the periphery of the first team.
Ferdinand continued to warm the bench but that might change with M’Bia sent off and now suspended for 3. Cisse didn’t come on until the 72nd min but it was a promising performance from the bottom team. They now play Reading, Stoke and Southampton.
Reading v Fulham
Three subs – Ruiz, McCleary and Robson-Kanu – all got themselves on the scoresheet, as did Berbatov and Leigertwood. Bizarrely Baird somehow managed to score for the second week in a row.
Meanwhile, the familiar names of Duff and McAnuff had some assist action, as did Nicky Shorey which might catch the attention of some. Gunter was a sub while Guthrie was dropped from the squad completely. Fit again Federici sat on the bench and may remain there after conceding 7 goals to Arsenal this morning. Petric spent the game on the bench but Fulham are scoring a barrowload away from home which must bring Berbatov and others into contention for our teams.
I took a 4pt hit to get in Bale 10(c)=20pts and Mata 9pts so delighted with that result. After the hit I finished with 60pts for the week. Let us know how you went and what your plans are for this week.
