Man United v Wolves
Hernandez out is bad news for United. The good news is it should guarantee Rooney playing further upfield. Hell most likely be partnered by Wellbeck if SAF thinks hes had enough game time. Otherwise expect Nani or Young to sit in behind Rooney, in which case Park or possibly Valencia will come in.
Four clean sheets from five have had many jumping on the bandwagon of Uniteds defenders but the news that United have lost Vidic to injury is a huge blow.
...unless youre Steven Fletcher, whos in form and will fancy his chances of adding to his 11 goals in 2011 despite earlier injuries.<!--more-->
Arsenal v Everton
More injuries at the back with Santos out but it shouldnt matter IF Everton remain as toothless as they did last week against Stoke. Theres been shades of the Vermaelen of old with two goals in two games. RVP keeps purring along nicely while Walcott as well as Gervinho and Arteta, who both scored last week, will be hoping to get in on the action. Ramsay remains on attacking threat despite being unable to transfer it into goals.
Saha is injured while Drenthe is doubtful for the toffees which drastically cuts their attacking threat. Set-pieces will remain their best chance of picking up some points.
Stoke v Spurs
You always know what youre going to get with Stoke, there is no such thing as an easy game at the Brittania and theyll be buoyed by their progress in Europe as well as an excellent result at Goodison after a poor run.
Sorensen will miss out with Begovic coming back in. Crouch might feel that hes got a point to prove after being shown the door by Harry in the summer.
VDV was on the bench last week after limited training in the lead-up to the game. Interestingly, he came on for Lennon rather than Defoe at the 70th minute mark. Hell be expecting to come back in while Defoe - after scoring his sixth goal of the season - will be hoping to keep his place. Its hard to imagine that a fit VDV (and he says he is) would be left on the bench, but Id be feeling slightly nervous anyway.
Bale and Lennon continue to give the opposition a torrid time.
Bolton v Villa
These two are really struggling at the moment and both teams will be feeling the pressure going into this one. Agbonlahor and Bent seem to be getting more and more isolated each week. Theres talk that NZogbia will be back after his breach of discipline, but Given and Jenas will be missing through injury.
Bolton will be desperate to get themselves out of the bottom three and Klasnic remains the best bet to do some damage.
Liverpool v QPR
You could probably draw a sweepstake for what Liverpools starting 11 will be for this game. Spearing - Lucas replacement - got sent off last week, Henderson would be the likely candidate. Attacking wise its quite hard to call whos going to play with Bellamy, Maxi and Carroll getting game time recently. Kuyt was benched against Fulham while Suarez can expect a suspension for his indiscretion (not yet though). Cerny will continue in goals with Paddy Kenny still out injured.
Sunderland v Blackburn
Martin ONeill - the master of spin - is back. He has come in this week and played up to the fact that he was a boyhood fan, that he got into fights in the playground because of it and then announced that "we shouldnt put much scope on him being a boyhood fan". Brilliant! Why some British politician didnt employ him as a spin doctor during his 16months out of the game is beyond me. I have visions of the Mackems getting whipped into a frenzy at the mere mention of his name and you can guarantee that the mood in Sunderland has lifted dramatically in the last week. His greatest attribute is his motivational skills and he will make sure everyone is pulling in the right direction and is prepared to spill blood for him. Anyone who isnt will be out on their arse next month, while Id expect a few to arrive.
In the meantime, hes got to make do with a team thats lacking in attack. Im not convinced that the likes of Larsson (unless its Henrik) would fit into ONeills way of playing the game but along with Sessegnon they add quality and Sunderland need these boys to fire to start their road to recovery. The likes of Wes Brown will need to lift his game especially with The Yak - straight off a four goal game - coming to town. Blackburn will be lifted by their impressive 4-2 win last week.
Man City v Chelsea
Despite two 3-0 victories in a row for Chelsea, the clean sheets have been hard to come by this year as AVB has played a higher backline that leaves them vulnerable. If he does so again, with the movement and finishing of Aguero along with the guile and trickery of Silva, they could be in trouble. The same however could be said for City who have failed to keep a clean sheet in their last seven matches. Drogba is back playing to a standard that we expect from him (while he tries to earn a two year deal) and Sturridge and Mata have been excellent recently.
This game has the potential for lots of goals and I think there might be... so probably mark this one down as a 0-0.
Luiz is suspended, so expect Bosingwa to come in and Ivanovic shift to CB. Lampard was dropped for the must-win UCL game midweek and should be relieved if he goes back into the starting 11. Richards is an injury concern for City and Savic took his place in the 2-0 win over Bayern. Kolarov is out for a month so Clichys place is assured.
Swansea v Fulham
After another away defeat at Blackburn last week, the Swans will be happy to get back to fortress Liberty Stadium this week. Danny Graham remains doubtful while Joe Allen is out after his two yellows last week. If it goes to form then Vorm and his defence can expect another clean sheet at home. Dempsey and Co might have something to say about that. Duff is out, Murphy is doubtful.
WBA v Wigan
Wigan will be looking for three points before a horrendous run of games. Easier said than done! Rodallega is seeing some bench time and apart from Moses, who hasnt lived up to pre-season hype, the options are thin on the ground. Sammon has struggled with the transition from the SPL and goals are hard to come by.
WBA are more of a threat with Long back in the team, is there a chance well see him and Odemwingie together this week? With a weak Latics defence, West Brom will be looking for a confidence booster.
Norwich v Newcastle
Steven Taylor is out long term and Coloccini is doubtful. James Perch should come in. Newcastles excellent run has a lot to do with their settled back 4 and with disruptions well see how theyll cope with what Norwich have to throw at them. With the likes of Pilkington, Hoolahan, and Morison/Holt it should be a test for Newcastle. Ba, who has been a revelation for the Geordies, will be hoping to get as many goals under his belt as possible before heading off for the African Cup of Nations next month.
