I had a similar issue.
I disregarded Newman because I already have Deledio, Cotchin and J Roo at the moment.
Is that an issue in your team which can help you decide?

Tough call mate, id go Shaw will play in more winning games and the 1 less bye, also already have lids in defence with Bachelor.

Really cant go wrong...

Shaw if you are going for overall

Newman for league.

Newmans second bye is during a week off in SC

I have the same choice mate, hard decision. Noting how wet it will be in melb tonight, Shaw may not score so well against Geelong. I am only going for a league win, so I might take DC's advice..

Hmmm I am prob more concerned about league... I have lids and cotchin!

Cotchin will be gone come 2nd bye...

Leaning towards Shaw?

Winning teams equate to higher SC scores I think?

But then Newman will do the kicking duties out if half back and is $25k less with a consistent track record!!

Hard!!!

Great advice and since I am in same predicament I will take Newman. :D

Thanks DC

"Hello - Shaw" doesn't quite have the same ring to it as "Hello - Newman" though, does it?

Richmond premiums still make me worried. Will Newman be in the top 7 defenders this year? Maybe. However will the state of them at the moment who knows.
Will Shaw be in the top 7? Most probably.

I'd go Shaw.

Newman doesnt miss many games and will never be tagged out of it.

Cant say the same about Shaw....

Trouble with Newman is that he sometimes gets those lockdown roles which give you a 60. Then again, Heath Shaw has broken my heart repeatedly for the last few years with 50's & 60's at inconvenient league moments. (Shaw owners in previous years - I know your pain)
Maybe changes in SC scoring system and game evolution (less forward tagging) has benefited these players as they both appear more consistent. Generally they're both a bit of a wild ride.

All defenders are going to pop up with the odd 60 every now and then..

Even Deledio has done it this year

Shaw for me, in a team that will win more and should average slightly higher. As per Watson, if you didn't start with Newman don't get him now.

Newman has to average 6 pts more than sure for the rest of the season just to break even. Not likely!

DC - very true, just highlights what a crappy year it is for picking defensive premiums. No real ultra-premium defenders this year makes it a bit of a lottery.
Curse that forward press!

Changed my mind last minute and went Shaw... Deledio and the extra bye were the deciding factors.

i went r.murphy - if i picked shaw i wouldnt have enough $ to upgrade harris to judd next week without making another downgrade - 1 spot left in def - saving it for BG ;)

Liking the look of Shaw for Grimes.
The one less bye is an attractive factor.

I went Shaw because of the winning team bonus, fornight trade will be Enright, Duigan still on bench with some more cash to come in.

Next week is forward cash cow trade ins.
