As predicted by some on here, subs have the potential to play havoc with our teams. Petterd is one good example. It seems coaches are adopting a learn as we go approach (with Primus being a bit more honest admitting he hasn't a clue). Some of the lessons from R1 are; major injuries happen and are a double blow if you have already used the sub, and having one of your better players as a sub then bringing him on for impact is fraught with danger. It will be interesting to see how many of the chosen subs for R1 remain in that role this week and how quick coaches are on the learning curve. The expectation that subs would mostly comprise ruck relief/utility does not seem to have eventuated. Given the number of R1 injuries, can coaches be expected to take a more conservative approach? It might be useful over the course of the season to record how much TOG subs from each team average, which in turn might influence our EMG choices. Anyone get caught holding a sub in R1 and what do you plan to do about it? Anyone hit by a player being subbed off?
Indeed, but it seems MM is being a bit more SC friendly this year, letting Krak get his ton first. Mind you, the axe could fall on Buckley with little warning.
FWIW I don't believed krak deserved the tonne but nor arguing one of only forward to actually tonne up
Good point Fez - from memory think it was only Sydney who started with a specialist ruckman as sub. Obviously not the way to go because he can only fill the one spot. Will be interested to see where Ant puts Seaby this week. Maybe Longmire will feel he needs to counter the Hille/Ryder duo.
Was on AFL site in the teams (hadn't noticed it there before so must be new) but heard in on SEN earlier.
