Throughout the NAB cup, we get a lot of data, some of it a lot more useful than others. One of our regulars here, Inkersaint, has put together this collection of tables which reviews the NAB scores so far against a players salary in order to determine the cost per point- Which really is one of the better stats in the pre-season. Were going to do this as a weekly thing, because these lightning scores are a little wacky - but well see what we can make of them.
Sitting as the king of the hill is none other than Hawk rookie Tom Schneider. Coming in as the only player priced at less that $1000 per point- his dual position eligibility would have made him a high priority on many watchlists. The caveat- IF he can make it onto the senior list. Hes obviously throwing down and making the claim- but hell need to continue to impress. That said, if he gets promoted through the year, he could be an excellent downgrade option.

Richmonds Jake Batchelor came in as the best value defender at 1068. With previous successes in Richmond picks coming in the form of Andrew Raines and Relton Roberts, Id be tempted to watch closely before I jump in. But when you look at the key differences a) He doesnt appear to be made of glass, and b) he goes alright with the footy, then you simply have to add this kid to your watchlist. Hes a tall attacking half-back flanker who averaged 21 touches though the TAC cup this year. While sure, Richmond had a lot of outs- he certainly didnt do himself any harm.
Behind Schneider in the midfield was Sydneys Craig Bird. That said, he played, and starred in one game in a line up who smashed the young GWS side by 79 points in only 40 minutes of football.
In the rucks, we see a second Richmond player topping the list, this time its mature aged Tom Derickx, who really does have a spectacular name. He got himself to the top of this list through his stand up performance against the Pies. Though he did go missing against the Blues, he cant be ignored as an R4 option. One question at Richmond is who their #2 ruck will be this year. Graham will be taking the #1 spot, but for mine, #2 sees Vickery just pipping Derickx at the moment- but its certainly close enough to suggest that hes going to get games this year.
The forwards, again behind Schneider is one Tendai "Barlow" Mzungu. Yes, I threw the "Barlow" in there, but seriously, the guy looked great out there. Hes 24, 183 cm, 76 kg - plays across the halfback line and through the middle, is classified a Forward/Mid, averaged 29 touches a game in the WAFL last year and will be in everyones team from the get go. The only real decision you have to ask yourself is- Forward or Mid?
Heres the full list, Inkersaint has also added age at 1 Jan to help spot those mature-age recruits, and R denotes rookie.
