It feels like Tory Dickson has burst thru the gates this weekend as a forward rookie lock - even bulldogs coaches are guaranteeing his Round 1 spot... Most of us missed the NAB 4 game when he did well, but I saw the earlier games and found him extremely average. Suddenly he has 'hit form'. Does anyone have opinions or insight into this possible bargain?
He was brought to the club to be given a chance at AFL. He is mature aged (24) and ready to go. Two of the Western Bulldogs current coaching panel, McCartney and Shannon Grant, know Dickson from experience with him at Bendigo Bombers in the VFL. That's a pretty good connections for a rookie-priced player to have. Given Dogs' lack of outstanding FWD options, I think he will be given his chance early in the year. If he doesn't produce much in early games, he will likely spend the rest of the year at Williamstown before being delisted. 2012 or bust for his AFL career I would think.
Whom would you have Jason, him or A Hall, given they at the same price, Dickson may be a flash in the pan, but at least he is in it?
I have Dickson in my team at F9 currently. I don't have Hall in my team. Can't see a GCS small-to-medium forward being a success story in 2012.
F9 is where I have Hall, but I put him there three weeks ago, then he went AWOL, time for a switch I think.. ta
I had him earmarked very early on, from when he got drafted. He was recruited for a purpose as a KPP and even though he had me worried he's at least showed he's got a spot and can play. Lock for me too. Jason, the only threat to his spot is Panos I think?
Other issue is that none of the bulldog forwards can be relied upon to get regular choice ball. Even if Dickson overperforms, he seems likely to me to get some 30pt scores...
Skinner would be direct competition. Panos and Campbell somewhat further back in line. If Jarrad Grant fails to deliver much of substance though, Dickson's long-term JS will be on the rise.
I guess at the moment I'm hoping he does heaps better than Grant ;P I have him at F9, it's sort of a battle with Paine at the moment and my mob's boy has the dual position. Thinking about just sticking them both in, but lots will be determined at the selection table. If Paine is not in for Round 1 at Collingwood, he won't get many games this year. There are a lot of outs at the Pies at the moment, including a fair few talls that would consider themselves first choice. Dogs forward line looks a bit of a mess, in transition - what it was in the late 2000s (fast, small) to a more traditional approach. You'd think Dickson is probably going to get a run, but in a perfectly full strength team surely Sherman, Giansiracusa, Gilbee would have first dibs, with players like Dahlhaus and Skinner providing the spark. A Hall, I agree very tough to see Gold Coast forwards of any size or ability being that great this season. They are still 2-3 years away before they realise their potential.
No, Campbell kicked 3.2 in NAB 3. Jarrad Grant was selected #5 in 2007 draft. Which means his time to show something of significant substance is just about up. No dice in 2013 if he can't produce anything to write home about in 2012.
I think Grant has been on the reverse weights machine... he's got some talent, but Liam Jones has stepped up more. Grant has that desolate Corey McKernan look in his eyes sometimes...

Reverse weights... Thats gold. The only thing that Grants has grown is his hair. Should have gone with split pea hearted Hill.. Go Dogs'
