Referral Competition

Here’s the deal. Currently, we have about 4,800 registered users.

We know for sure that there are a great many of you out there who visit regularly but haven’t yet taken the leap and signed up with us. (It’s free, easy, comes with awesome perks and can be done here). We also know that the guys who are already registered and active participants around these parts have friends and co-workers who play and that you’re ever so helpfully keeping in the dark about TooSerious. ;)

So, as already discussed here TS needs registered users on board to keep on kicking along so now’s the time to give us a hand and let your mates in on the worst kept secret in fantasy football.

So, we’re going to run this as a bit of a competition, get them in using your referral link, get them to register and hopefully we’ll be able to get some prizes happening.

We’re after at least 10,000 users by the end of May. A big ask?

If each of you refer just 5 people from one of your leagues, we should be able to get there easily. Make it the bottom 5 and call it charity… :P (or yanno, bottom place from each of your leagues! :D )

Prizes and sponsors
If anyone out there wants to donate some prizes, contact us here and we’ll be sure to plug the crap out of your business whilst the competition’s running and leave up links to your website on our competitions page for the duration of the season.

How to get your referral link
This can be found over on the competitions page

Buttons to put on your website or in your forum signature
Again, you can find these on the competitions page- Or, if you’re feeling a little frisky, make you’re own! I know that I personally lack a graphical flare, but many of you don’t, so if it interests you, go for it- heck, give us a look in the comments and I’ll probably put it up on the Comp page! :D

So, there you go- go hard peoples! The more people we can get signing up to TooSerious, the better resource we can turn this into for everyone!

Both comments and pings are currently closed.

  1. Will there be any prizes for people that sign up through the referrals?

  8. I’ve shared!
Is anybody worried that if TS becomes too flooded with new users that it may lose it’s community feel?
Just throwing it out there….keepin it real.

It’s a valid concern and one we had when Walesy was offered the chance to write for the Herald Sun. Each week those articles brought in thousands of new TS converts and we found that the culture of the place was strong enough to keep away the nasty flaming and so forth you see sometimes on other sites. More people just added more light and shade to the place rather than diminishing the strong community feel and some of the people who found us then are now important members of the community.

The thing is, we have thousands of people reading along and using the stats without registering. Even if we just got those people signed up and they continued using the site in just the way they are now, it’d be a win. Registering is a great way for those people to actually support the site and keep it viable.

If they join in the discussions and actively participate in the community, I think it will be a growth of what Walesy and co have created.

We don’t want to lose the feel of this place either.

Yehbut I want to keep TS my little secret.

I must confess, I’ve spread the word, the prob is how to get them to sign up.

Prizes sound like a good idear. Tickets to the GF sounds like a good starting point idear.

I think the newsletter is the way to build the registrations without too much change.

If you need to register to get the newsletter, and it’s a pretty handy one with embedded doc-links, then that will be a great driver.

As for people thinking they will give up their edge, let’s be honest, if you have started the year tooseriously you should already be sitting between positions 1 and 5000, and should have a host of cows waiting slaughter.

I think giving up the cutting edge at the moment is crucial in terms of having competitive leagues come finals time haha!

In terms of the community, I think the best thing is there are multiple ways to be involved:

    1) The registered lurker who gets the newsletter, forums and stats, but prefers to read along without contributing further.

    2) Those who comment with Walesy on twitter or bigfooty, and get their first look at the site through some doclinks loaded there.

    3) Those who like to comment through the Wall

    4) People who interact with our writers on the articles on the main page

    5) Those who not just want to interact but be writers themselves help themselves to the interesting forum action.

    6) Those who joined one of the multiple leagues we created at the start of the year, and comment in the “Psyche Out” area

I’m involved in all of these and find there’s a different community inhabiting each of them. I guess the newsletter and other goodies is all about getting more people in the 1) section, and hopefully encouraging them to do 2-6)

I reckon it would be interesting if people wanted to list which sponsors they would enjoy receiving stuff from in the newsletters. I think Walesy and Jo are hitting the mark with their current offers, but can’t help thinking there are others which could be useful.

Oh yeah how can I forget:

    7) Live Chat during matches and team announcements!

Live Chat certainly brings out some of the character in our participants, the true colours shine when the evidence of your ignorant chat gets burned in the ether and isn’t able to be returned to you later in the season!

  13. Nick says:

This year has seen many more new users than any other year I’ve used TS I reckon, with the odd character here and there who resembles the folk from another ‘shall remain nameless’ fantasy site being abrasive in the forums or on the wall.

I think as this place gets more popular more people like this who just want to be disruptive and not add to constructive debate will surface more and more frequently.

However I think the overall genuine quality of the regular posters and admin keep these people in line with gentle warnings, and the current lack of such crap throughout the site will probably deter them from posting nonconstructive stuff anyway.

We just need to maintain the quality regular posters we have and deter the ones who come in to cause some raucous. If we do that – I think it will go a long way to preserving the “feel” thats been created.

    As always – amazing stuff.

I’ve always gone with the simple reminder for people- this isn’t bay 13. Nor is it Bigfooty. If you want to engage in that kind of discussion, there’s a place for it, I call it BigFooty.

Here, we discuss wisely, we back up our arguments with solid reasoning and we play the ball, not the man.

The one thing that annoys me most about BF is the partisan-ness of all conversations. Your team can never do anything wrong, and if they have, it can be rebutted by abusing the team of the person commenting. It’s just not at all constructive- nor is it really that fun. I like talking footy and throwing around light-hearted jibes in good fun- and that’s what angle we build this place up around.

  15. Wow, just reading those responses reminded me how awesome TS is.
Jo, Walesy, Lucas, Thunda & Nick – thanks for being so reassuring! Now, I really need to get back into best buys in light of the teams coming out…once again the extended bench of Libba and Wallis means late checks for Harvey’s tomorrow night!!
