What a scoreline. A stunning match between two top flight teams almost saw the teams score 3000 points between them, with the reigning premiers winning by 49 points.
Neither team gave an inch, with consistently good performances across the board from the much heralded - Libba (154), Selwood (138), Dal Santo (119) and Mumford (164) - to the far less celebrated - Griffiths (122), I Smith (130), Jacobs (112), Jaensch (111), Elliott (117).
Ultimately Big Mummy's virtuoso 164 provided Foul Bay with the boost they needed to get over the line in this one. Hibberd's (103) late efforts for Waikikamoocow brought the game close, but Yarran (47) did enough for Foul Bay to maintain its lead.
Well done to both teams for a great game.
Wagga Wagga 1233 d Lovely Banks 1103
The Wombats moved into the top five at the expense of the Lilacs, handing the Purple Ones their first loss for the year.
Consistency across the midfield (all four players scoring 100+) and defence (four players between 71 and 89) helped the Wombats establish a handy lead which the Lilacs were unable to overcome.
Franklin's (130) return to form was a huge boost for Wagga, while the evergreen Cox (122) in the ruck and Prestia (126) were well among the points to help cover for a bench which had a slightly quieter day.
For Lovely Banks, hometown boy Mitch Duncan rattled up 142 points in his best game for the year. But the consistent team-wide scoring that was a feature of the Lilacs' first two wins did not materialise, with Thompson's (28) injury hitting hard.
Chappy (110) again turned back the clock, while Carlisle and Pyke were solid.

Grand final rematch. Fremantle did not hide the fact they were planning to hold Hawthorn to less than 12 goals in this match, and they would have been surprised to see the Hawks notch up 6 majors within the first 15 or so minutes. Hawthorn went on with it and were 75 points up early in the last quarter and they were in scintillating form, also winning the disposal count 492 - 311.
Heroes: Sam Mitchell 114, Rioli 108, Suckling 102, Pavlich 97.
Villains: Walters 32.
Western Bulldogs 15.10.100 def Richmond Tigers 15.8.98
Great finish to this game, with the Dogs holding on by 2 points after leading by 37 at half time. Richmond stormed home, kicking 3 goals late in the 3rd quarter and even hitting the front, on a Jack Roo goal, with only a couple of minutes to go, but super-sub Giansiracusa responded with the game winning goal for the Dogs.

This was a fairly close game for the first 3 quarters, but following a similar theme to the first two rounds, the Crows capitulated, not scoring a goal in the last quarter, whilst the Swans piled on 7. Buddy finally had his critics happy with him, kicking 4 goals and setting up a few too. Luke Parker also kicked 4 goals in a BoG display. Unfortunately Tom Mitchell was subbed out and we'll have to keep our eye on him during the week.

Too early for this kind of thread? It's never too early. Geofantasy questions are always pertinent, and with one of the leagues stakeholders bitching about the lack of timely content I've decided that my over-flowing jug of benevolence could sustain me pouring him a glass and obliging.

Andrew Swallow and Zac Clarke are the big ones, leaving the Pyrite to sit DEF's and FWD's on the IC - rarely a first choice strategy.
Defence aside - which remains something of an Ibbotson's heel for Popanyinning, their team isn't in too bad a shape. Plenty of depth it's just being tested right now, FTR most teams would struggle losing 2 out of their top5 most valuable players. I hold to my preseason contention that the 'Yinning are a middle 6 side, they've just copped a bit of hard luck of late.

If Trent West is an R1 then Geelong have clearly messed up their list management strategies. But they haven't because he's not. And with Lobbe heading up Port's ruck division, Coulta back-up Jarrad Redden (who?!) doesn't look like he'll be getting a call up anytime soon. When you couple this with a midfield that runs into Matt...

We're two games into the 2014 AFL season, so let's take a look at the players in contention for the Brownlow Medal.
Gary Ablett Jr
The second generation star and two time Brownlow Medal winner will be desperate to claim a third medal as it will prove that he is the greatest player of his generation. The Gold Coast Suns man is the 5/1 favourite with bet365 to win a third medal which would make him the first player to win successive Brownlow Medals since Robert Harvey (1997,98). Ablett has had a decent start to the season; he has 65 successful disposals to his name as well as nine tackles and two games. With Ablett you always feel that he will be at the top of his game every time he steps onto the field and you can go as far as saying that the Suns are a one man team. If Ablett can guide the Suns to a position higher than last year's 13th place finish then he deserves a medal just on merit. The best player in the league bar none and if he plays to the best of his ability he's a shoe-in.

Essendon midfielder Watson will be desperate to add a second Brownlow Medal to his mantelpiece and the 29-year-old looks a good bet to win it (he's priced at 11/2 with bet365). Watson has made an absolutely blistering start to the 2014 season; his 68 disposals are the second highest in the league, while his ten tackles and two goals have been gladly welcomed by his Essendon teammates. A good barometer in seeing how good Watson has been thus far is his AFL fantasy score, which currently stands at 136.5. Only three players have scored higher so far. It really is a toss-up between Watson and Ablett - while Ablett may be the better player, Watson plays for a better team and one that should reach the play-offs. If Watson can help Essendon to a play-off place then he may just pip Ablett.

While round 1 team selection was a variation on the traditional knapsack problem, i.e. 'given a set of items, each with a mass and a value, determine the items to include in a collection so that the total weight is less than or equal to a given limit and the total value is as large as possible', the team selections now need to factor in the bench players who can play one week but not the other, dual-position players who can switch between lines to make space for other players coming into the team and of course trades to maximise the total score season to date.
Just to be clear, every week I throw out all previously determined team selections and trades and recalculate the round by round selections and trades to maximise the total score ... it wouldn't be the maximum total score season to date otherwise.
Given the additional complexities, I can't easily work it out like I could after round 1, at least not in a way that I'm sure I get the highest scoring selections and trades. So it's time for me to fire up the big gun, load it with my 'math' and let it do its' magic:
