For those who take it way too seriously

Steve has sent me the reviews for this week and asked me to post them, but before I do that, lets take a look at the confirmed promotions and relegations:

Firstly, lets have a look at the confirmed promotions:
* Rev is going up from Div 1 to Premier
* twoeyec and bgt2110 are both going up from Div 2 to Div 1
* all of UnderAchievers, yumcha, doolz and headmandude are confirmed to be promoted from Div 3 to Div 2

- all the above are subject to their acceptance of the promotion of course.

The only confirmed relegations are the people moving from Div 2 to Div 3 as the Wildcard exemption is still in play for the teams in Div 1 and Premier.

The confirmed relegations for players in Div 2 are:
* Rad_E_Cool, Reyloc, smokinjoemisiti, doobs, rodgo and lethal

Now, here's who is in the relegation zone in the other divisions and who will go down if anyone is successful in winning the exemption.
Firstly, anyone in the relegation zone (in Premier or Div 1) who wins the GmC7 in the Consolation Ladder Playoff Bracket is exempt from relegation.

Premier:
Jasmine and anthak in relegation zone.
Jet is next in line.

Div 1:
trav00, Lano24, Hawker and Crossy in relegation zone.
fudge is next in line.

Let us know if you have any questions, but otherwise, read on for the reviews::::

<p style='margin-bottom: 10pt;]Karlos and Mick have the week off in week 1 of the playoffs courtesy of finishing top in their divisions. Wade Machine is up against Heaver (3 v 6) and Fez is up against Walesy (4 v 5).

Its a pretty-big deal on Friday that I'll be in the big smoke! To celebrate the occasion we'll have a TS get-together for some drinks, some banter, and some general fun. (Its actually not such a big deal, I fly over at-least once a year).

Right now the plan is to turn up to The Mitre Tavern, which apparently is at 5 Bank Place (off Little Collins, between William and Queen).http://www.mitretavern.com.au/

I'll probably be there from about 5pm (maybe earlier if others are turning up earlier). Walesy will be there whenever he gets there. I know a few others also expressed interest.

So, anyone interested in a TS get-together, head on over and join in the fun.
(...and send PM's if you can't find it, or can't find us, we're all on phones these days anyway)
Oh boy oh boy, I can't wait to see the run around that gets given to Ellis tonight. After his efforts last game, he's getting a reputation.

Also, of course, Gary Rohan is pretty much a lock in most squads by now. Laidler is and interesting one though, as is Brad Sheed.

I dunno, who are you watching tonight?

GUNS AND ROOKIES v MID-PRICERS
In simple terms, the guns and rookies (GNR”) approach is to start the year with a mix of low-priced players (rookies) and high-priced premium players. Generally having 15 bargain basement players in your squad would leave enough funds under the salary cap to pick up 15 of the best players in the competition.
On the other hand, the mid-price approach opts for more players who are valued between $200,000 and $500,000. While you still need premium players and rookies under this strategy, it allows for more of a balance of similarly priced players across the field.
Using more expensive mid-priced players instead of rookies does not leave enough money for nearly as many premium players in your line-up. A mid-price structure could vary anywhere between three and 13 mid-priced players, depending on your fancy and how many risks you want to take.
The main advantage of the latter approach is that mid-pricers will ideally have greater job security than rookie-priced players, playing more games when you need them on the field early in the season.
They will also generally score more points than rookie-priced players, although this is offset by having fewer premium players.
The aim is to try to pick players who will become premium players during the season. These can often be found by looking for players who are returning after long-term injuries, have changed clubs or role in their team, or who are set for a breakout season.

ARE MID-PRICERS WORTH THE PUNT?
It is not always easy to identify mid-pricers that will do well enough to justify picking them in our starting squads.
Last season there were only about 10 players who...

<p class='Standard]The pre-season is upon us. A time where coaches give their young charges plenty of games and your everyday puff piece can turn any rookie into the next Gary Ablett. But with so many different fresh faces thrown up each year and with the coaches experimenting with team structure, how exactly do we separate the real deals in these rookies from the fools gold?
<p class='Standard]Being a numbers kinda guy, I've always been a fan of watching trends from the past to garner a few clues on the future, so lets take a look at the obvious statistic to track- a players average over the NAB. Last year, we had 22 rookie or rookie priced players, who during the pre-season managed an average of 60 points per game. Not keeper material, of course, but for what you pay, it does the job and is likely to make you a bit of coin along the way.
<p class='Standard]Of those 22 players however, only 6 of them kept that average, while playing an acceptable amount of games over the early season, where others just didn't get the games. These absolute hits were, Brett Goodes, Jaeger O'Meara, Dean Terlich, Lachlan Whitfield, Oliver Wines and Matt Jones. All well known names if you played the game seriously last year and every one of them essential to any squad hoping to have given it a shake.
<p class='Standard]Obviously, scoring alone isn't the only indicator of success in the season proper or perhaps even the most important.
<p class='Standard]When we take a closer look at that list of hits, there are a few significant factors at play. Firstly, teams. Those guys came from teams who, to put it bluntly, weren't exactly Premiership contenders in the 2012 season. Secondly, they all played significant minutes across the pre-season, averaging around 260 minutes of game time. Whitfield was the exception to that, playing just 195 minutes. Finally, we can look at these guys and see, they are either mature aged, or were rated as a potential elite midfielder.

It was great to see a thriving discussion in last week's edition of RMT. Personally, I was travelling most of last week so I've only been able to glean bits and pieces of footy news over the past few days.
That hasn't stopped me from slicing and dicing my SuperCoach team once again, wringing the changes and (hopefully) keeping an upwards improvement trend. At least, that was the plan when I (again) started to tinker with my line-up.
I still have some guys in there who I am not convinced about, but at least now I can safely say that there are a lot less of these types. Pearce Hanley, I'm still looking at you though!
Line-by-line I have been through the options. Here's how I saw it and why I pulled some changes:
Defenders:
OUT: McVeigh, Ashby
IN: Suckling, Laidler
I needed to free up some cash and those who questioned the wisdom of starting McVeigh (quite a few actually) would appear to have done enough to sway me. The new DEF selections both appear to be going quite well and present clear value on their starting price.
Midfielders:
OUT: Caddy (switch to FWD), Martin, Aish
IN: Michie, Ellis, Cunningham
Caddy is better suited to a F5-F6 role and with my most optimistic hat on, could even potentially be a keeper at F6. I think I'll go No-Martin. At his inflated price, he will need to score insanely high numbers and I just didn't see enough in his pre-season games to convince that it is odds-on to happen over the early rounds of the real season. Sure he's a good kid, but I think there is better value at a slightly cheaper price. Speaking of which - welcome back Viv Michie. Also Xavier Ellis and Harry Cunningham are both probably best 25 for their respective clubs and too cheap not to have a crack at.
Rucks:
OUT: Lobbe
IN: Minson
Here's where most of the cash finished up. Big Will has barely raised a sweat through NAB and has still been scoring at will. And I still can't believe that there are people who haven't selected...

[span style='color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-family: Calibri; font-size: 16px;]The Suns continued to improve in 2013 winning 8 games for
the season and improving their points scored. The gap between them and their
opposition closed considerably with the Suns failing to lose a game by over 10
goals. They picked up 2 victories against good teams (Collingwood and North
Melbourne) and it was good to see certain players perform beyond expectations.
One of the highlights of the year was Dion Prestia picking up 42 possessions
against Adelaide.

[span style='color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-family: Calibri;][span style='font-size: 16px;]Moving onto 2014, the Suns are finals contenders in my
mind. They will continue to improve under Guy McKenna and their spine, for the
first time, is looking quite strong. At one end, you have Rory Thompson playing
with either Murphy/Warnock and May/Day as 3rd[span style='font-size: 16px;] talls. At the other
end, you have a mixture of Lynch, Dixon and again, one of May/Day. Of course,
the midfield is the best part of the Suns with a huge number of players able to
roll through quite easily. There will be good players missing out on games of
footy with the Suns' depth at a high. From a SuperCoach perspective, the list
looks great. Let's take a look at some major players for this year.
