TooSerious

For those who take it way too seriously

TooSerious: Rolled over for 2014.

That's right peeps and peepettes, TS, that stats delivering site that you all love, it rolled over for a new season!

Stats are up, Calcs are up, Ticker is up, Draft Planner is up- but I'll talk more about that later.

So yeah, site is rolled over. We've got SuperCoach, Dreamteam and AFL Fantasy set up thus far and will add any other comps as they get released.

#ValeCenterbet

As always, let me know if I've missed something! I know that the auto-team-upload still needs to be fixed for the new season, but outside of that, should be cool.
You might remember last year, a post put up in these parts discussing the power of Value based drafting- what it is, and how it assist you in creating an awesome team.

Well, the latest feature of TS,Draft Planner, does the heavy lifting for you.
So, what is Value Based Drafting? VBD is a method that allows you to rank players, across different positions, into the one master list, by comparing how much better each player is than any lower ranked replacements.
It sounds difficult, but the math behind it is quite simple, firstly, you grab a baseline for each position. The baseline is derived by grabbing the worst possible score for that position.
So, for example, if you only needed a single ruck, in a competition of 8, then based on last years results, you'd be looking at Naitanui, and his average of 96 as the baseline. Which would score Goldstein, and his 114 average as an18. Considering you're looking at around 40 from a top round pick, you'd be silly to grab him early. In fact, looking at the numbers, you'd grab him at around Round 10.
However, if you needed two rucks, the baseline suddenly drops down to an 88, giving Goldstein a 26 and more of a 3rd round rating.
So it's a formula, that is completely dynamic across whatever competition, and whatever format it runs.
How does it work?
First thing you want to do is create a team for your competition. Once you've done that, you're able to enter in the number of positions across each spot that you need to fill (And a bench spot if you have wildcard spots.)
After you've done that, you can simply hit the Generate Draft List button and you've got yourself a quick draft.
Of course, players don't average the same thing year in, year out, so we've got the ability to get in there and change what you think will happen. Think JPK will go nuts and average 141- throw it in and you'll find him right up at the pointy end of your draft.
You can then add...
Due to an unexpected emergency Steve had to deal with this week, I have written the Premier League review this week. As usual Stowie has written the Div 1 review and headmandude has written the Div 3 review. I think Pearcey is on holiday, which is why there is no Div 2 review as yet, but there may be one added over the coming days...
Now, lets get into it...

The rampaging Karlos took his winning streak to 12 with another comfortable victory this week, this time over Owen and Run TMC. Owen won the last couple of days to make the scoreline a little more respectable, but the result of this one was never really in doubt. Best for Karlos were Durant (256/4) and Griffin (176/4) and best for Owen were Ibaka (186/4) and LBJ (136/2).

SuperCoach is opening for another year which, for us die hards, is the fantasy equivalent of Christmas/New Year's. There's a box of new toys to play with and a fresh season with infinite potential.

This could be the year your research, analysis, gut feel and, of course, a little bit of luck all come together to see you standing above all others in September as the 2014 SuperCoach.

But we're a long way from those lofty dreams of glory. Your initial team selection is the critical foundation on which the whole season rests.

So how do I, a SuperCoach with many years of experience and a pretty solid footy knowledge, go about selecting my squad?

The first step is research. You have to know the game to win the game, and to know the game you need to know the teams, the players and in particular, know what is going to change from last year. You also need to be comfortable with the fantasy strategies which can best help you turn that football knowledge into SuperCoach success.

When sitting down in front of a screen, putting my squad together, the first thing I look for is value. There is often great value to be found in players who were injury-affected last year as, overall, they have a lower average for the year and they generally attract discounts in their pricing. Yes, there is significant risk in picking this type of player, but nailing them is essential for any successful SuperCoach. Some examples are Suckling, who missed the year with an ACL, McIntosh, Daisy and Sandilands whose performances were hindered through injury. These players have attracted discounts in their pricing due to missing games, or simply performed well below their former averages, meaning you can add them to your squad for much less money than otherwise, with the potential for them to go large. Marc Murphy or Dayne Beams, are examples of players who were affected by lesser injuries and who are going into the 2014 season twenty per cent cheaper than in 2013....

Premier League

With 3 round to go in the Premier League, there are 7 teams now fighting for the last 2 final spots. I would say Heaver and Mick are safe at 8-5, that then leaves Walesy (7-6), Fez (7-6), myself (6-7), Ant (6-6) , Jet (5-8 ), Owen and Ruddy (5-8) still in contention for the finals.

The next 3 rounds are going to sort out the contenders from the pretenders.

Westside Hardcore (8-5) 1476 defeated Feel the Love (6-7) 1336

Westside jumped out to a big lead after day 2 in this matchup and it was always going to be difficult for Feel the Love to close the gap from that point on. Games played were 48-42 in favour of Westside. Millsap was the star for Westside with (237-4), next best were Matthews (194/5) and Lowry (163/4). It was a so-so week for Feel the Love with some big scores and some low scores. The best players this were Love (173/3), Dragic (132/3), Turner (126/4).

King of Karlos (11-2) 1996 defeated 3 Gasols (R Kelly) 1 Brow (5-8) 1528

Karlos nearly broke the magical 2000 pt mark this round which was a huge effort. Games played were 48-45 in favour of Karlos. He had 11 players break the 100pt mark this round and the best was Durant (236/4), followed by Oladipo (206/4) and Parsons (217/4). Jet will be looking to regroup this round as he needs to win this week to remain in contention for the finals. Jet's leading scorers this round were Pau Gasol (255/4), Monbrow (270/4) and Pek (132/3).

Wade Machine (9-4) 1780 defeated Run TMC (5-8) 1725

This was the closest match in the Premier League this round and it came down to the last day where Wade Machine was able to hold off Run TMC in the last few games. Curry led the way for Wade Machine with (213/3) followed by Noah (201/4) and Gortat (185/4). Run TMC is another team who is facing...
Alright guys, the astute observer might notice that things look a little different in these parts.
Well, as part of the general upgrade of the site this summer, we've taken a swing at improving the blog.
And this is it. Looks a little prettier and the best part: No more double posting with F5! :D (Shame I can't say the same about the forum though... one day)
Ok, so the changes.
- General bug fixes.

- Closer integration of the thumbs, meaning it should be bloody instant now. No more wait time.

- Better access for the mods. In fact, the approve button should be working now. :D Maybe even the edit button! (Let me know how it all goes guys)

- You should be able to post some links, just makes sure you include the http bit at the start or it won't link through properly.

- Ghost writers are now a thing, meaning if you go into your profile and subscribe to the 'Blog Contributor' role, you'll be able to post blog entries straight to the blog! (Albeit, they will need approval first, so don't spam crap please!)

- Latest comments on the right there has been a much requested addition. Welcome to addition!
Um, I think that's it. I dunno, it's late. I've tested it across a couple of browsers, but as always- there will be bugs, and if you run into any, email me!les.wales@gmail.com
