This week we have some solid ins like Stevie J, to counter the loss of guys like Hanley and possibly Buddy, but in general the better options seem to be getting less and less. With an expanded selection of POD's this week however the Best Buys is once again here to answer your trading needs, and help you get set for the finals.

The Cannon, dubbed such for his booming left-foot, is growing into an excellent fantasy football player, and as a defender helps to bolster one of the weaker looking SC lines currently. A good run home in an improving side make mcKenzie a great smokie, and the skills of some of his teammates surely can't hurt either.

DEFENSE
ROOKIES

<a href="http://tooserious.net/Player.aspx?id=2097&name=Mark Whiley">Mark Whiley (GWS) DEF 173k 39 +6k
Whiley has performed acceptably for GWS in his first 2 games, although his average of 39 isn't particularly awe-inspiring. On the bubble this week but already priced fairly highly the majority of coaches looking for a defender will be bringing in premiums this week. Whiley is facing a 6 grand price-rise.

<a href="http://tooserious.net/Player.aspx?id=2101&name=Gerald Ugle">Gerald Ugle (GWS) DEF 123.1k 37 +16k
Ugle is similar to Whiley, except around 50 grand cheaper. Uncertain job security and a low average of just 37, he probably won't be on many...
Not only did we repeat last weeks' brilliance with a 2402 this week, but we also got our highest round ranking for the season, at 7,551 in round 17. To top this off even further, we're continuing our climb up the overall ladder, to no be ranked 18,753 for the season. It was a great week for the donors, and we didn't even have to trade to make it happen.

There were a few moves from the team in round 16, but our make-up stayed very similar in round 17, looking just like this:

Backmen:
Hanley 113
Heppell 81
Clisby 77
Goddard 69
Gibbs 60
Ibbotson 58
Midfielders:
Ablett 178
Griffen 140
Selwood 137 Captain 274
Cotchin 137
Kennedy 108
Pendlebury 103 VC
Vlastuin 85
Mitchell 80
Ruckmen:
Nicholls 88
Naitanui 78
Forwards:
Westhoff 152
Kennedy 128
Rockliff 128
Staker 114
Zorko 81
Cox 70
Bench:
Webster 50
Thurlow 0
Dangerfield 0
Martin 0
Rowe 41
Currie 0
Franklin 0
Johnson 0

As you can see, there's some pretty impressive scores in our side for the week, but also some that were well below par, and others that missed out entirely. A few more stars putting in slightly more star performances could have seen us blow the 2500 mark well out of the water, unfortunately I don't think we would have made the 2682 top score for the week.

Anyway a look at the team shows that defence is still a very weak link, with only Hanley topping the ton last week, and he's out injured this weekend. Goddard, Heppell, Gibbs, and Ibbotson were all below par, while rookie Clisby nearly outscored all four of them!

In the midfield we had Gazza, and that's all that needs to be said on that. However we didn't trust him with the captaincy, deciding to give Pendles a shot at the VC in the same game, with Duckwood as backup, which we had to use when Pendles spudded&amp;rdquo; it up with a lowly&amp;rdquo; 103 points! The rest of our premium mids did their jobs, except for the injured Danger, but his cover...
Swan v. Greater Western Sydney

Rd 18 2012: 141 SC points, 37 disposals

Franklin v. Essendon

Rd 13 2010: 159 SC points, 26 disposals, 5 goals, 4 behinds

Rd 6 2010: 120 SC points, 16 disposals, 5 goals, 3 behinds

Rd 7 2009: 104 SC points, 12 disposals, 5 goals, 1 behind

Rd 11 2008: 189 SC points, 18 disposals, 9 goals, 5 behinds

Rd 18 2007: 108 SC points, 12 disposals, 4 goals, 3 behinds

Rd 6 2007: 160 SC points, 18 disposals, 9 goals, 2 behinds

Average is 140 SC points with 17 disposals and over 6 goals a game.

Note: Has missed the last couple of games against Essendon but has been manned by Hooker in the previous three matchups. Great record against Essendon with three scores over 150 and no scores below 100. Has missed the past two games with a knee injury. Prior to his injury, he had scored 61, 100, 97, 124 and 81 (average of 93) in the five games prior.

Pendlebury v. Greater Western Sydney

Rd 18 2012: 136 SC points, 33 disposals

Note: Tagged by Treloar in the game last year. Scored a disappointing 103 from 28 touches last week against the Suns after scoring 153, 154, 112, 145 and 132 (average of 139) in the weeks prior.

Barlow v. Adelaide

Rd 10 2013: 141 SC points, 32 disposals

Rd 11 2010: 151 SC points, 32 disposals

Rd 1 2010: 151 SC points, 33 disposals

Average is 129 SC points with 29 disposals.

Note: Great record against Adelaide with three scores over 140 and only one score below 100. He is in solid, but not spectacular, form with scores of 104, 113 and 104 (average of 107).

Ablett v. Carlton

Rd...
Howdy all. Well, it's been a while, but there's no better time than the present to talk about footy. And do I have some discussion points for you. Below you can find my usual brownlow tally and analysis, along with my current AA squad and teams & for the first time, my current top 50.
All 3 have been collated through statistical analysis rather than opinion, and I'd be interested to hear your thoughts about each and all of them.

2013 BROWNLOW MEDAL
(At the conclusion of Rd 17)

OVERALL (3 vote games in brackets)
25 - G. Ablett (1, 5, 7, 8, 9, 11, 17)

20 - J. Selwood (1, 4, 11, 15, 17)

19 - D. Hannebery (6, 8, 11, 17)

18 - S. Pendlebury (1, 6, 16)

17 - J. Watson (2, 4, 9, 14)

16 - D. Swan (10, 11, 12, 15)

15 - S. Johnson (6, 9, 16)

15 - R. Griffen (10, 13, 17)

15 - K. Jack (1, 15)

15 - N. Fyfe (2, 3, 13)

15 - J. McVeigh (2, 3, 10, 16)

Hard to see anyone stopping Ablett picking up his second brownlow medal. Selwood a smoky, but hasn't polled greatly in last 2 years. Hannebery likely victim of vote sharing in best current midfield in the comp, and also being the Swan's 5th best midfielder behind Kennedy, Jack, O'Keefe and McVeigh. Pendlebury the only other hope, with Watson injured and the rest too far back.

ADELAIDE - TOTAL VOTES (41)
14 - P. Dangerfield (6, 12)

10 - R. Sloane (4, 8)

6 - R. Douglas

Dangerfield a lock unless injury takes longer than expected and Sloane can continue on his form from last round.

BRISBANE - (42)
13 - P. Hanley (2, 7, 17)

6 - D. Zorko (5, 8)

6 - T. Rockliff (16)

Hanley clearly has head best season of the three - however his voting credentials are unknown, and running backs as a position have a history of polling poorly. Danger team that I would steer clear of, unless Hanley odds too good.

CARLTON (54)
7 - A. Walker (10)

6 - M. Murphy (6, 8)

6 - J. Waite (9, 11)

Really need final few rounds for a clear winner to appear here. Again, same...

BONNIE DOON BANDITS 1260 def JIMCUMBILLY...
Please Read (boring but necessary)
For the Round of 16 (rd17) onwards I will be calculating the scores myself and will try to post results by Tuesday night. If the team links are functioning correctly then you should be able to check your opponents score once lockout is concluded, but you should check the posted result is correct.

Rule 1 - For the duration of the competition each coach will be required to check that their weekly result is correct. If an incorrect result is posted (and it changes the result) a coach has until 8pm Thursday to postin the relevant weeks results blogwhat they believe the correct score and result is, if they don't the 'incorrect 'result stands.

Rule 2 (Draws) - if two teams playing each other finish with the same score the tie breaker will be:-
-i - donor status (ie donors defeat non donors, two donors or two non donors remain tied)
- this will depend on Walesy agreeing to tell meyour donor status, if he doesn't this will not apply
-ii - the first coach to have entered the Masters Series Competition (as per the original blog) will win
- http://tooserious.net/Blog/tabid/90/EntryId/1751/Masters-Series-Nominations-Draw.aspx
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Masters Series Draw
Thetop32 teams after round 10 gained seedings (see green and orange highlighting) and everyone else was drawn randomly.Seeded teams (top 3100 overall after round 10) wont play another seed until the 3rd round (if the seeds win through).Unseeded teams (outside top 3100 overall after round 10) were drawn to face a seed in the first or second round with a1 in 3 chance of this being in the first round

Full details are at:-...
Iron Knob 1354 d Waikikamoocow 1201
The Codpieces dispose of another challenger in impressive fashion, defeating the Incorrigibles by 153 points.
The Little Master GAJ was at his absolute best for Iron Knob, 178 points and another three Les W votes. Griffin (140), Douglas (128) and Hanley (113) scored well also. Frighteningly, many of the Codpieces players had slightly down weeks.
Meanwhile, the Waikiks' Dan Hannebery ran amok for 145 points, Isaac Smith scored 118 off the bench and Brent Staker continued his fine form with 114. Coach Chels has been critical of his side in some after-match comments - with a number of disappointing performances from established players likely to be highlighted.

Whitsundays 1136 d Gundagai 1105
A giant case of influenza has given Gundagai a giant headache and thwarted a chance at its first win for the year; the Grasshoppers going down to Whitsundays by 31 points.
In a game that went down to the wire, Gundagai were unable to call on ruckman Aaron Sandilands, who was a late withdrawal with the flu. The Warriors took advantage of his absence - ruckman Matthew Lobbe notching 127 points before Josh Kennedy (128) did enough to seal the win late in the piece.
Gundagai were again well served by Tom Rockliff (128) and Sam Dwyer (115). Van Berlo (95) and Hayes (91) also played well.
Apart from Lobbe and Kennedy, Michael Barlow and Rory Sloane (104 and 97 respectively) shone for the Warriors.

Gariwerd 1283 d Wagga Wagga 1252
Inspired by late game heroics from Chris Masten, the Cockies stormed home to upset the Wombats by 31 points.
Wagga Wagga had bounded (do wombats bound? No ... trundle perhaps) to a handy lead early in the match, with Dayne Beams (134) and Scott D Thompson (126) among the points. Handy contributions from Bastinac, Shiel and Prestia in the middle also helped.
Gariwerd were able to stay in touch with Wagga Wagga due in no small part to new recruit Nick Dal Santo (159). He, Cooney...

That saide, it was a bizarre weekend of football, with a couple of massive finals changing games on the cards.

Firstly, Carlton all but but an end to Norths chances, while keeping there's alive. Next up, the Suns have opened up the opportunity for Collingwood to miss the top eigth this year.

Can I just say, I'll be smiling to myself just a little bit if Mick finishes the season by taking the #8 spot off Buckley. Oh how the newspapers will have things to write.

Finally, how was that game on Sunday!? Adelaide taking down the might of Geelong!

A wierd, wierd week it was.

North vs Carlton

Result: Carlton by 1.

It was a pretty tight match early, with Carlton's superior accuracy keeping them in the hint, but the third quarter- boy the Blues were good. Personally, I figured that North's end-game collapses had come early.

That was a mistaken assumption however, with North kicking...

This one seems a bit of a coin flip. Personally, I've got Mitchell a smidge in front here, but have seen plenty of counts that have Pendles up.

My Count:

Pendles: 15

Hodge 1.80 vs McVeigh 1.95

Would love to get some feedback here. Both started the season well, falling away over the middle third of the season.

As with the last group though, currently, my count has McVeigh in front, bucking the trent in the numbers.

Currently, I've got both players scoring well in 3...
