For those who take it way too seriously
Welcome all to the final edition of Best Buys for 2012.
This year in SC has been a real roller coaster, with the introduction of the sub rule, a new multi-bye arrangement and the new expansion teams all switching things up for us. For anyone still in the hunt for overall, or even just in their league grand finals, I commend you on the effort in what has been a frustrating season for many. As with last weeks Best Buys, I will be ignoring all of the mainstays for this year, the Gazzas, Pendles, Marics etc, and instead focussing on some of the POD options for the all important Granny.
My pick of the week this week, is Tex Walker. A break-out season for Tex, he is coming off a good game last weekend and playing against a depleted Suns team this weekend, so I fully expect him to kick a bag. Carlton proved last week how complacency can affect a side so Adelaide should be looking to really turn the screws on GCS here, and hopefully come away with a massive win. Now that I have put the mozz him however, all coaches considering him should ponder it pretty carefully.
So, join me over the break for the final Best Buys for the year, and all your Granny thumbs needs.

The Best Buys uses a mix of price, form, break-evens and projected salaries to assess the Best Buys of each round. These are essentially the players that represent the best “value” which is determined by the above factors. Some player will not be mentioned on here even if they are playing well, as value is the key for this article. If a player is averaging 110, which is certainly solid, but priced at an average of 112 then they will not be rated. This does not mean these players should be avoided or not picked due to this, but simply that they aren’t as good “value” as the others in the Best Buys. For all the players I’ve missed, and any more you’re wanting opinions on, the thumbs are always there.
The thumbs act as a polling tool for the TS community, if you pose a...

It was another absolute humdinger of weekend EPL action. So many sub-plots as well.....Everton winning their first two league games of an EPL season since 1783. Wigan earning their second straight away clean sheet since the year dot. And Rooney reacquainting himself with a nasty gash for the first time since "Grannygate" a few years ago. Join me over the break for more....<!--more-->
Liverpool v Man City 2-2
Clichy, Lescott, Silva and Rodwell all dropped out for City with Kolarov, Kolo Toure, Milner and Nigel De Jong coming in. While Liverpool started with the impressive 17yr old Raheem Sterling ahead of Downing and Kelly again started at the expense of Enrique and Coates replaced the suspended Agger.
Skrtel scored with a thumping header from a Gerrard corner while Suarez scored a sublime free kick after a handball. Yaya (Tevez assist) and Tevez got City’s goals. Nasri played 54mins before making way for Rodwell allowing Toure to play further forward earning instant reward. On 61mins Dzeko replaced the ineffective Balotelli. Silva came on for Milner with 15mins remaining. Allen, Sterling, Tevez and Suarez all impressed.
Chelsea v Newcastle 2-0
Terry missed out with a neck injury while Ramires and Lampard were both benched with the latter most likely rested as Chelsea played their third game in a week. Bertrand, Luiz and Meireles all came in. Sturridge spent the game on the bench.
R Taylor was again on the bench for the Geordies. Ba and Ben Arfa were probably Newcastle’s best players while Cisse was quiet.
Torres and Hazard were the creators and scorers of Chelsea’s goals. Of Chelseas 8 goals this season Hazard has scored one and assisted 6 of them. He has also scored 10 out of 10 penalties in league football. Chelsea are now sitting proudly on top of the table leading into their free week.
Stoke v Arsenal 0-0

While not a great week for the donors, we did end up improving our position in the overall, scoring 2302 for the round, which placed us at 29,680 in the weekly rankings. This bumped us up 632 spots, to again be inside the top 20k, at 19,604. In our leagues we had three wins, one loss, and we were already on the sidelines in the last league, so three grand finals to keep everyone interested for the final week of the supercoach season.
As always, join me over the break to see how it all panned out.<!--more-->

As can be seen, we made some subs and some MPP changes for this week, but none of this changed the fact that Deledio still lead our backline, with 131 points this week - its going to be a shame if hes not a defender next year! Once again Goddard and Scotland came up next best, on 121 and 118 points respectively, rounding out our ton-toppers down back. The next best was Carrazzo on 91, H Shaw on 87, Yarran on 82, and finally S Shaw on 64. The bench was made up of our dropped again emergency in Lake, who failed to play, and the unused Darley on 45 points. No potential missed points down back, so some good team selection from the donors here.
Our midfield was lead handsomely by a haul of 155 to Pendlebury, and a top quality 134 points from Priddis. Next up was Kennedy on 126, and finally captain Ablett on 124 points, which doubled up to 248. A disappointing Mitchell was next on 71 points, followed by our...

As season comes to close next week I thought it would be good time to get some discussion on potential All Australian side. This is normally a pretty hot topic so thought we’d get main post up about it.
This is one the hardest things to do and obviously you cant fit everyone into the final 22 but below is my shot at it!
StKildaThunda’s All Australian Side
B: Beau Waters, Darren Glass, Luke McPharlin
HB: Grant Birchall, Ted Richards, Sean Dempster
C: Gary Ablett, Trent Cotchin, Dane Swan
HF: Dayne Beams, Mathew Pavlich, Patrick Dangerfield
F: Cyril Rioli, Tom Hawkins, Stephen Milne
R: Dean Cox, Jobe Watson, Josh P. Kennedy
INT: Sam Jacobs, Scott Pendlebury, Brett Deledio, Joel Selwood
<!--more-->
Unlucky: Scott Thompon, Ryan OKeefe, Sam Mitchell, Lewis Jetta, Luke Bruest, Ivan Maric, Nic Nat, Mathew Boyd, Andrew Swallow, Lenny Hayes, Shane Tuck, Heath Scotland, Josh Gibson and a few others!
I found the HF & FF positions hardest to pick. Pavlich selects himself but then any of Hawkins, Petrie, J.Riewoldt, N.Riewoldt could have been selected. Didn’t select both Roo’s as don’t think they’ve had outstanding AA seasons and Petrie has been good in 2nd half season but very average first half. Think Franklin has missed too many games to make it, the same as Taylor Walker. If they played 19-20 games they would have been locked in.
No doubt my selection of Sean Dempster will cause bit of discussion, but his year has been outstanding and is ranked higher than most defenders in nearly every category. He doesn’t quite average same disposals as some, but it’s not always about that.
Dean Cox/Sam Jacobs was my preferred ruck combination. Jacobs got nod just ahead of Maric although wouldn’t be surprised to see it go that way. Nic Nat is also in contention. Could we have 4 ruckman in AA team?
Stephen Milne was easy selection for forward pocket, having kicked 55 goals and only 5 behind Coleman leader. Milne has kicked a goal...

Once again Ill just pass you straight across to Terry, who has knocked up a nice review for your ORFFA perusal.
Thanks to Bama, who continues to put the scores up in the appropriate thread.
Bit of a foul taste in the mouth this week, at least for 4 teams who were looking to run rampant only to find their opponent had gone walkabout. The Chooks are undefeated for the season. Just enter Tuck each week and everything else takes care of itself.
<!--more-->
The Cockies (1314) are finishing the season strongly with a solid win over Marble Bar (1233).
Birdsville (1316), the Warriors (1075) and the Waikicks (979) all failed to find an opponent.
Ironically Andy (Nunawading) reminded us to put our team in then failed to do so himself, despite the offer of free drinks.
Iron Knob (1227) continued to do the job over Powlett (1094) and are shaping up as a powerful side for next year.
As is Mount Beauty (1224) who came out on top in a good encounter with the Frogs (1182).
Charlie (1247) and Venus Bay (1200) were another close encounter. Fitzy seems to like the tight ones – maybe they will go his way next year.
Foul Bay (1151) made the journey to Mawson and while happy with the 4 points, soon got sick of talking to the penguins.
Finally Cradle Mountain (1278), despite a healthy score went down to the man from Gundagai (1323), our top scorer this week who continues in fits and starts, depending on the mood in New York.
ORFFA is being run on first past the post in our inaugural season and Tuckie looks set to do it easy. The introduction of finals next year will make it just that little bit harder.
Any coaches who have not caught up with recent discussion, suggest you visit the ORFFA thread and give us your views.

So, the penultimate round is rolling to a close and I want to hear reports of high scores and grand final appearances!
I also want to hear from that Powertothepeople fella, you know, the one whos leading this whole shebang leading into this round. I heard this weekend that youre rocking out in the TS Port Adelaide league, so if youre reading, Id love to get a word with you before the granny rolls around!
Anyways, the review is over the break!
<!--more-->
Well, after this weekends results, it looks like the top8 is set. All we are playing for now is ladder position and home finals.
Adelaide should sew up a big win against the Suns, meaning Sydney and Hawthorn will need to win their matches against the Cats and Eagles in order to hold onto their spot. Though there is a chance that Adelaide can secure a top2 birth regardless if they can dominate hard.
West Coast are going to want to win though as Collingwood in 5th look likely to take out their match against the shattered Bombers.
Meanwhile, at the bottom end, North and Fremantle have games against GWS and Melbourne- so if Geelong dont beat the Swans, they could find themselves losing their homeground advantage and traveling interstate (Or maybe even Collingwood in an elimination final!)
So its still a big week coming up, but lets see the games that got us to this point.
Sydney vs Hawthorn
Result: Hawthorn by 7, 15.12.102 to 14.11.95
What a bizarre game! Sydney picked themselves 7 of the first 8 goals in the game, holding at one stage a 36 point lead, 18 minutes into the 2nd quarter. After that though, Hawthorn just went BANG. Three unanswered goals to Franklin, two to Burgoyne and a Suckling goal brought the scores level before Malceski hit one back before half time.
Far from the domination (then reverse domination) of the first half, the second half was extremely even, with Syndey putting on 2.2 to Hawthorns 3.5 in the third quarter.
The final term went goal...

So, the <a href="http://tooserious.net/live_scores.php?page=gameday&id=10251104&process=live">live chat is up and running[/url], but I have a feeling that with a little TS get together happening at the Mitre this evening, that it might find itself a little... quiet.
Either way though, if you want to head down, feel free. Ill be watching the Dons season go further down the gurgler, but will more than likely to be looking to drown my sorrows afterwards, so I should make an appearance.
Either way though, should be another good weekend of footy, with #1 and #2 squaring off in what should be an epic encounter.
Now, good luck to anyone whos in a semi. Me, got bundled in straight sets, but hey- I dont think Ive ever won a grand final, so Im not too suprised!
Good luck!

Round 16
Not sure who we are appreciating this week, but it is the ORFFA penultimate round, so that means have your pen ready Fitzy.

Kicking off the laughs will be the Cockies, Gariwerd (12) hosting Marble Bar (15). Only 9 points separated these teams last round, so expect a tight one.
Namatjira (16), despite their lowly position topped 1200 last week, but they won’t have it all their own way as Jolcon assures us Birdsville (9) will enter a team of melons this time around. Going to be one hot and dusty (and thirsty) footy match.
Match of the round looked to be The Battle of the Bottoms as Nunnawading (18) host the Whitsunday Warriors (17), but Jory having a sore foot has dampened the cocktail spirits somewhat.
Darraweit Guim (3), despite not having a team song, have been travelling nicely and will be a tough ask for the Kiwis. The Waikicks (13) were a bit unlucky to go down to the Cockies last week and Sammy could have made the difference.
Another done and dusty meeting will be Iron Knob (2) hosting Powlett Plains (14). Can P’rap pull a rabbit out of the hat? Perhaps not. Plagued by injury in the latter half of the season, his ladder position does not reflect his philosophy. Or does it?
Mount Beauty (6) have been travelling well without any huge scores and they take on Far Kew (11). Will the Frogs be daring enough this week to enter a team? Or must we spank them?
Charlie’s Opening (4) will host Venus Bay (10) and I would like to say not much separates these teams, but there are enough naughty connotations in there without adding that. Big chance for Fitzy to come home with a wet sail.
Frozen chicken anyone? Foul Bay (1) have to travel to Mawson (5) and there is no guarantee the Penguins will turn up. So the chooks may have to stand...

WARBURTON WANDERERS(1258) vs POOWONG POTOROOS(1231)
1st vs 6th? 1st vs 4th? Ladder positions won't matter a jot over the next few days as Warburton go into battle against Poowong. All that will matter is which teams get more points. The average difference between the two teams is just 27 points the Wanderers way, and there are some definite stylistic similarities between the sides.
Both clubs have a largesse of talent in the middle of the park; Gary (140), Thompson (112) and Sewell (101) for Poowong, Murphy (116), Griffen (106), Hartlett (91) and Boak (88) for Warburton. Likewise in the FWD half; SJ (97) and Hawkins (95) forming a formidable double act at Poowong, Lewis (98), Hale (97), Sylvia (93) and Chornes (87) currently league's best practice at Warburton.
Reading between the lines and numbers the difference between the two clubs is stark despite both liking the ball to be in the middle and front half. Warburton have a depth of talent that Poowong do not, and Powoong have a Gary Ablett, which Warburton do not. Which in the end can kind of even it out, because if Gary scores 280 - which he is clearly capable of - the Potoroos essentially have a midfield of Gary, Gary, Thompson, Sewell and Mzungu. Which would help offset the gulf in all round depth, and a RUC battle between Warburton's Kruezer (89) and Poowong's own Roughead (65) that will most likely end in a loss for the Potoroos.
At the selection table the Potoroos are still without Jones (83) as STK wind down their season, while Miles (66), who's had an up and down season to be fair, is also absent. Boom kick McKenzie (65)...
