Hawthorn Review By Hawks2008
Well 2012 has been a mostly very enjoyable year as a Hawks fan, a year that has seen the club finally live up to the hype and expectations placed on it in the pre season. Hawthorns campaign got off too a rocky start, seeing narrow losses to Geelong and West Coast in the first few weeks, followed by embarrassing defeats at the hands of the Swans and Tigers, prompting many (including myself) to wonder if this group would ever really live up to their true potential. Since that loss to Richmond in round 9 however, the club has gone 12 – 1 and in turn secured its first minor premiership in 23 years. As we know though, finishing first on the ladder means nothing if you cant lift the cup at the end of the year, so here’s hoping the boys salute on the last day in September!
Here’s a look at the good, the bad and the ones to watch for Hawthorn players from a Supercoach perspective.

THE GOOD
Buddy Franklin
Average: 116
2013 price: $613,536
I know, I know, he burned many of us throughout the latter stages of SC this year, when a one week niggle turned into a car crash, a tummy ache and a countless amount of rumours that left us wishing we had of traded the big budwah weeks ago. But the numbers don’t lie in fantasy footy and for a key forward, they don’t get much better. Buddy averaged the third highest points of any forward this year, behind only Dangerfield and Beams. On 10 of the 16 occasions he managed to don the brown and gold, he cracked the ton (including a solid 112 in the grand final), also managing two 89’s and a 99. And of course, who could forget that awe inspiring effort against North in Tassie were Lance bagged 13 goals and a mammoth score of 236, the highest by any player this year. I...

This was an ugly matchup from start to finish with Team Coleman once again struggling to find players who can score in double figures. This week only Stafford could crack dub figs with a 12, the next best was a pair of 8’s from Maclin and Nelson but you simply aren’t going to win many matchups with performance like that. KOK on the other hand had 5 players in double figures but none higher than the disappointing to date Brady (issues with Giselle perhaps??). However TC were still alive in the matchup till late after an injury and 0 from Hernandez and a -7 from the Raiders D – bad call here as the Bears were left on the bench with a 9. The 20 left on the bench in the form of Danny Amendola would have got TC over the line here. KOK very lucky to be 2-0.

Allguts Nogorey looked to take their good week 1 form away to Team Walles but travel did not take kindly to Nogorey. An injury to Bradshaw, a donut from the number 3 ranked WR Fitzgerald and a surprise belting for the Cowboys D were always going to make things tough. Team Walles on the other hand again got a massive game from Spiller who is quickly rising up the RB rankings. This was complemented by Newtons 25 and solid performances from Gore, Wallace and Crosby. Ryan and Davis tried hard but Ryan in particular couldn’t repeat the heroics of last week for Nogorey. Team Walles wins this 116-78 and goes 2-0, one of only 2...

Thank the lord for the lovely staff at <a href="http://ad.au.doubleclick.net/clk;262349788;86586754;l">Sportsbet.com.au...not to say they didnt take their time with the last 70 or so, but Grazia all the same! Make of it what you will - but keep in mind the odds are soooo much better than last year

And for those of you that are interested, I went with a group of 9 with all 126 multis of 5. Rockliff, Thompson, Harvey, S Selwood, Giles, Jack, Dal Santo, Deledio & Hartlett. Paying 1.12 for any 5 right, 6.74 for 6, 23.61 for 7, 62.95 for 8 and a whopping 141.63 for 9. Which is nothing for 4 or below (i.e. only gamble what you are willing to lose

The leagues have now been confirmed for the 2012-13 fantasy basketball season. Over the course of the next few days Anthak will set up the leagues for each division and an email will be forwarded to your nominated email address that you have set up in ESPN asking you to join the league. Please activate this request as soon as possible.
<!--more-->
The leagues consist of the following teams
Premier League
(Team Heaver, Kings of Karlos, Jasmine’s Mob, Run TMC, Westside Hardcore, Ruddy’s Cavaliers, Ant hak, Fudge’s Sixers, Adelaide Maggotz, The Jug-O-Naughts, Linsanity 17, Wade Machine)
Division One
(Too Seriouseses, Albert Park Rangers, The Bucks Fizz, Crossy Crusaders, Get Knicked, Team Stowie, Canuck Steelers, Team Farken White, Broady Broncos, CK Nicks, Nahla Vs Little Dee, Doobia Dominators)
Division Two
(Everton 149’ers, SmokinJoe Misiti, Six Ten Two Forty, Cyril33s Crushers, The Hinrich Manoeuvre, AC-BC2011, Lano 24, Cazza, Red E Cool, Philosoraptor, Lethal, Popey)
The most important thing to now think about is to agree upon a date and time for each draft to be held. During weekdays in September the draft does not open on ESPN until 9.00pm weeknights (AEST), Therefore we could arrange for the drafts to be held on a weeknight commencing at 9.00pm (AEST). Or the other option is to hold the draft sometime on the weekend however this becomes more difficult as people have other commitments.
Note that the season does not commence until the last week of October so we can leave the drafts until sometime in October however we do run into problems with daylight saving which means that the draft will not open on ESPN until 10.00pm weeknights (AEST). Therefore if we were to hold the drafts in October, the weekend would most likely be the only opportunity to hold the draft.
Can you please post your requests as to when you would like to hold the draft in the comments below and I will sort them out and let everyone know what the preferred time...

Another cracking week of action was rounded up with an emotionally-charged evening at Goodison where the<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y-iipmv1P88"> Merseyside public remembered the 96 innocent victims of Hillsborough. It was a wonderful tribute from a club showing real class. Ill cover all the games over the break.<!--more-->
Stoke v Man City 1-1
Man City went back to a 4-4-2 which saw Clichy restored to the starting line-up and Maicon – who shared CK duties – make his debut. Javi Garcia scored on his debut from a Tevez (subbed on 64 mins) free kick and Sinclair another debutant kept Silva on the bench until the 75th minute. Kolarov, Rodwell and Dzeko all started on the bench while there was no sign of Zabaleta or Nastasic.
It was a familiar double act that brought Stoke’s goal. Walter’s assisting for Crouch who indulged in some hand-ball to the point of travelling before slotting away. N’Zonzi, Adam and Kightly all started. While Owen came on for his debut on the 90min mark. We’re still awaiting a first clean-sheet of the season for Kompany and company.
Man Utd v Wigan 4-0
There was plenty of speculation before the game about whether Kagawa and RVP would feature due to knocks picked up in the internationals. Only RVP featured and that was for the last 20mins of the game. Scholes scored in his 700th Utd game. Hernandez also hit the net while Powell and Buttner both scored on their debut.
Buttner also grabbed an assist as did Nani and Rafael. There was no sign of Evra while De Gea, Valencia, Cleverley and Kagawa all warmed the bench.
Maloney, who scored that wonder goal last year to help deny Utd the title, couldn’t repeat the feat and was subbed after 59mins. Ali Al-Habsi saved a Hernandez penalty after yet another dive from Welbeck. Kone and Di Santo both started again but couldn’t make any in-roads on the restored Ferdinand-Vidic partnership.
Villa v Swansea 2-0

Following on from last post, I reckon its time to reboot our annual TS tradition of heading down to <a href="http://www.crownmelbourne.com.au/lagerfield-sports-bar-beer-garden">the Lagerfield@crown for a few celebratory brownlow beers.
Seriously, where better to cheer in our runners than at the actual venue! (al beit, a few doors down!)
The action starts on Monday, 24th at 8, so we tend to get there around 7, grab a beer, maybe some chips and settle in for a good night.
And hey, even if you dont have any bets on- its always a lot of fun with a good group of folk.
(And hey, any of you writers make it down, Ill shout you a drink or two!! Really, the least I can do!)

<p style="text-align: center">Essendon Supercoach Season by H_Dons
Essendon’s season can be summed up in three sequential words: Excitement -> Frustration -> Disgrace. But on reflection, it can be seen as a disappointment, and a failure. In terms of SC, the sequence was largely the same, and if there were more SC-relevant players at the club, the ‘ugly’ section would be a LOT bigger.
While Essendon have in recent seasons had very few ‘SC-friendly’ players in terms of true premium scorers, Jobe Watson has launched himself into the very top category of elite. Apart from him, there is mostly daylight, and this other guy they call Stanton. I could claim I knew never to jump on him, as tempting as it was, but it is more likely that I just had some dumb luck in not bringing him in after those multiple 150+ scores. I will deal with him later. But apart from that, there shouldn’t really have been too many SCers getting burnt by Essendon players, at least not due to poor scoring, mainly injuries (Zaharakis, Hibberd). And it is on that note that I welcome you to the Essendon SC review for 2012.
<!--more-->
The Good
Jobe Watson
Avg: 120.95
Projected 2013 Price: $642,511
Nearly everybody dismissed Watson due to his dodgy hammies from 2011, so I find it quite ironic that in the season where Essendon had an injury toll bordering on the laughable, he plays EVERY game. Smashed his 2011 average of 106, was the Brownlow favourite for a large chunk of the season (good value at about 5.50 now) and almost certain to be All-Australian Captain. Only scored under 100 in four games, with a low score of 73. I could go on. Anybody who had him from round 1 at 574k would have been laughing (me J). Is an absolute gun and nearly single-handedly dragged Essendon to victory on more than one occasion. One of my first picked in 2013.
Patrick Ryder

It’s hard to get a grip on QPR’s signings as Hughes has overhauled the squad. Rob Green, for instance, caught the attention of a few but will now play second fiddle to the since signed Brazilian goalie Julio Cesar from Inter Milan.
There might be reasonable returns from the likes of Bosingwa, Granero, Park, Ji-Sung and Hoilett but nothing prolific. So far QPR have featured 21 players in their 3 games.

Pogrebnyak and Guthrie due to their bargain-base price are the standouts here. Pogrebnyak scored six goals in 12 games for Fulham last year. Guthrie meanwhile is now Reading’s most advanced midfielder in McDermott’s new formation.
Harte, as long as his creaking limbs stand up to another PL season, should get some goals/assists on the board. McLeary and McAnuff should be monitored.
