It was very much a hit and miss season for the Tigers. Encouraging signs were shown against really good quality teams and we even managed to beat the best teams in the competition (Hawthorn and Sydney). They did not get thumped and lost a staggering 7 matches by less than two goals. Imagine if half of those games were won!!! With all the “good” came lacklustre performances which resulted in losses to Fremantle, Gold Coast and in the last round, a draw with Port Adelaide. But season results aside, a new style of play implemented by Dimma Hardwick made Richmond a much more relevant Supercoach team (3rd in average of all clubs). A little chipping style and high possession game showed real potential both Supercoach-wise and for the club’s future. Debutants Steve Morris and Brandon Ellis did their jobs for most teams by playing most games and providing good bench cover while bolters Shane Tuck and Shaun Grigg proved to be good PODs. The following is split into The Good, The Bad and The Ones to Watch.

The Good:
Ivan Maric (Avg. 113.4): For those who were courageous enough to buy big Ivan at $338 300 as their starting ruckman, I salute you. Brought across from Adelaide this season, “Mullet Man” proved to be an outstanding investment in Supercoach. It is hard to find ruckmen who can be consistent and play a lot which is why Ivan (who only missed one game) was a mid-season upgrade for many. Some figures for you: He scored 100+ in 15 of his 21 games; 5 of those games were 130+. In the six games he didn’t crack the ton, three of them were above a respectable 90. His reliability and his ability to monster opposition ruckmen (was 3rd for the year in hitouts) made him one of the best buys in 2012 and definitely a good for Richmond.
Next year, according to TooSerious, Ivan’s projected price is around the $600 000 mark which for me, is a little too expensive...

Rigil Kentuarus (101) lost to Canuck Warriors (128)
In one of the great rivalries it was the Canucks who triumphed by 27 points in a runaway win. For the Canucks Matt Bryant kicked the lights out with 17fpts, equally admirable were Foster, Ridley, Maclin and RG3 who was dominant in his first game as a rookie QB. For my mob Julio Jones looks like he could be in for a breakout year whilst Cutler and Gore tried hard in defeat. All i can say is there is always next week....well not for Toby Gerhart anyway !!
Bradys Bunch (90) lost to Billy Bass (107)
A nice 17 point win for Billy over Bradys Bunch. Billy had an even spread of scorers across the board with Rodgers, Bradshaw, Sproles and Bradford leading the way. Bradys Bunch had good scoring from Rice and Alex Smith, however eating a donut by playing Matt Flynn as number two QB cost the team and no doubt they will be searching the waivers for a starting QB this week.
Candlestick 49ers (101) lost to Canton Bullldogs (103)
Match of the round with the Bullldogs (3 ls no less) getting up by just 2 points over an unlucky 49ers outfit. The 49ers have already flagged their interest in a RB with Turner, Wells and Williams combining for a grand total of 4 fpts. On the positive side they had huge performances from Brees, Lance Moore, Ravens d/st and Steves favourite kicker David Akers who equalled the record for longest field goal of 63 yards. For Canton, Peyton Manning showed he can still drive the length of the field with his no huddle offence while the two "f"s Flacco and Forte showed they are going to be valuable players for the Bullldogs.

Over the next month or two we will have a season review for each club from a supercoach perspective. They will include The Good, The Bad & The Ugly and will also include a small watchlist of players to keep an eye out for heading into season 2013. Collingwood have had one hell of an interesting year! They have been up and down like a yoyo and I think that it is fair to say that some of its players have caused us some Supercoach heartache over the course of 2012.

The Good
Dayne Beams
Avg: 122.90
Projected 2013 Price: $652,000
What a jet! Beams has taken his game to a new level this year and has been an absolute Supercoach stud. Since round 8 Beams has only dipped below the ton once, with a respectable 80. In that time, 8 of them were 130+ scores which made him a serious first choice captaincy option, right up there with the SC god, Gazza himself. If Beams is a mid/fwd next year, which seems unlikely, then you would be very silly to overlook him as your first choice forward. Well done if you jumped on him when he was 500k!
Jamie Elliot
Avg: 60.92
Projected 2013 Price: $323,000
Jamie had an impressive debut year this year, providing us with some handy backup as the season progressed. He had his downer days but he also had some good ones. Mooed out around 200k at his peak and if you were clever enough, you made some serious cash out of him. A respectable average of 61 deserved to be more and would have been if he wasnt the sub in his first game. The sky is the limit for this little tackling machine, one to keep an eye on as his career progresses.

This is a terrifying petition to write. But it’s important. I’d like to tell you what it’s like being a gay footy player, because today there’s a real chance we could begin to change the culture of homophobia in the AFL.
I’ve played amateur footy every season since I was five - almost all in the Yarra Valley league. I was raised in a household that lives and breathes the game. But when I realised I was gay the idea that my teammates might find out was terrifying.
It’s a blokey culture -- and gay slurs are a regular part of games and training. It’s a horrible reminder that you’re different, reviled and unwelcome. It felt like the footy club would be the one place I could never come out. Whether it’s intentional or not, the reality is that the culture of the AFL is hostile to fans and players like me.
Young gay people are up to 6 times more likely to be depressed, to self harm, or to contemplate suicide. I was 12 when I realised I might be gay, and footy was my life. It was a really hard time for me and if I had known of positive gay role models in society, in football, it would have made a world of difference.
The AFL has done amazing work tackling racism -- now it’s time for the AFL to take real and substantive action to build a culture where people like me are welcomed and supported - and where homophobia is simply not acceptable.

Santi Cazorla(9mil) is looking a class act, someone who can be the natural replacement for Cesc and the heartbeat of this Arsenal team. He has already set up his forwards with 11 goal-scoring opportunities due to his sublime passing and has demonstrated some excellent long range shooting. If RVP’s replacements can find their shooting boots then expect some big returns from this gem.
Lukas Podolski (8.4) is a proven performer with 44goals in 101 caps for Germany. Last year for Cologne he scored 18 goals in 29 league games. That’s prolific looking stats. Can play as a central striker or on the left and has done both already for Arsenal. Olivier Giroud(8.8) comes from the French league and will be hoping to have more of an impact than previous Ligue1 signings Chamakh & Gervinho who will be competing for the CF place in Arsenal’s team, the jury is still out.
Steve Bould- OK we cant pick him up but he is the signing Arsenal have been crying out for for years. They actually now look like they know how to defend. The season tips off on October 30th, which sounds like a while, but theres a fair bit to get organised between now and then to get our fantasy leagues set up, so we gotta get moving.
After a couple of years doing most of the organising for these leagues, Im gonna take a step back this season and Steve has been kind enough to step up and take over the reigns. Hell be assigned as a LM in all 3 leagues to set them up the same etc and hell be writing the Premier League reviews for us too.
Stowie will be writing the Div 1 reviews each matchup; however we are looking for someone to do the Div2 writeups, so if anyone is keen, get in touch with Steve or I.
