TooSerious

For those who take it way too seriously

(OMG,I cant believe I forgot to post this on Tuesday!! #WalesyFail)

Anyways, the pre-amble for this is that Steve, one of the regular commenters here, has, as many of us did, taken part in the Sportingbet Last Man standing comp.

Unlike most of us however, hes still alive!

So drop in, and drop in some words of encouragement

(And of course, realise that any tense was meant for earlier in the week! Dat Walesy!)

A few years ago, one of my mates told me about this Last Man Standing Competition on Sportingbet where you need to select one team a week to survive. The prize for the Last Man Standing is $50k. The rules of competition are very straight forward whereby for the first 12 rounds of the season you only need to pick one team a week to survive. After round 12, you need to pick the team at the line set by Sportingbet to survive. There are no restrictions on which team to pick each week.

People who are interested in joining this competition next year please note that you do not need to be a Sportingbet customer. It is free entry. All you need to do is to register your details at Sportingbet and they will give you access to the competition. They also do a Last Man Standing Competition for the NRL.

If there is more than one person left at the end of the minor round, the competition will then move into the finals. If there is more than one person left at the end of the grand final, the $50k will be split between the number of people left.

Walesy and Bearly from TooSerious also entered the competition this year.

I have entered the Last Man Standing competition over the past few years without much success as I have always been eliminated within the first 12 weeks of the competition. Last year I made the stupid mistake of picking Port to beat Gold Coast and was eliminated.

However this year is a different story as I am now one of the 62 people left in the running to win the $50k.

There have been a few nervous moments...
Well, almost.

Its the first week of the finals and you can feel the tension in the air.

Those lucky bar-fellows, who hold the double chance get another week to consider what to do with their Chappies and Franklins and Stantons and such, but without that luxury, do you trade hard now to hold your spot in the finals? Do you examine the opposition and hope they dont trade out? Or is it just a duck and cover approach.

Either way, drop into the comments below with any last minute questions, and any updates through the weekend.
So, its the first round of the finals, and with any luck, youve got a double chance.

Which would mean, if youre unlucky enough to have Swan, you can probably afford to hold him for the week.

Anyways, join us over the break for our weekly team chat.

Round 19 recap: Five scores over 150 led by Harley Bennell with a huge 193 in a losing team. He was followed by Pavlich with 179, Giles with 177, Jolly with 168 and Ablett with 165.

Well this week Ablett and the Gold Coast Suns are playing Greater Western Sydney. Gold Coast have had one game against the Giants which they lost by 27 points. Top scorer in that game was Giles with 134. In that game, Ablett scored 125.

Let’s look at the numbers for the week …

Note: Only one match up against the Giants earlier this year which was a 27 point loss. Was tagged by Dylan Shiel in that game. Ablett is in amazing form with recent scores of 165, 171, 150 and 133 (average of 155).

Murphy v. Brisbane

Rd 2 2012: 147 SC points, 30 disposals...
The finals are upon us!

This week as many SC coaches gear up for their finals run, the Best Buys will attempt to give you some good POD choices, and mitigate the damage caused by some more popular choices you may be without.

The tip of the week from me this week, is Clancee Pearce. A high risk proposition, especially with Lyin at the helm, he has shown in the last few weeks that he can score well when on his game, and is quite a nice price still. A certain POD, unless your opponent reads this article as well, Clancee has the chance to create some SC history for himself over the next few weeks, and hopefully will deliver.

As the 2012 season wraps up I figured I should mention that I will be doing some general SC articles over the off-season, and some rookie specific ones over the 2013 pre-season. Make sure to follow me on twitter @BlueBelieverTS for notifications on when the articles are up, and a few SC related tweets on the way.

For the info on Clancee, and the rest of the Best Buys, Ill see you over the break.

INFO

The Best Buys uses a mix of price, form, break-evens and projected salaries to assess the Best Buys of each round. These are essentially the players that represent the best “value” which is determined by the above factors. Some player will not be mentioned on here even if they are playing well, as value is the key for this article. If a player is averaging 110, which is certainly solid, but priced at an average of 112 then they will not be rated. This does not mean these players should be avoided or not picked due to this, but simply that they aren’t as good “value” as the others in the Best Buys. For all the players I’ve missed, and any more you’re wanting opinions on, the thumbs are always there.

The thumbs act as a polling tool for the TS community, if you pose a question with either a yes-no answer or a “thumbs-up X, thumbs down Y” in there then the community as a whole can give you some great feedback...
Well, its good news and bad news for the donors this week. The good news is that we scored 2308 for the round, which placed us at 86,617 while the bad news is we fell 2700 places in the hunt for the overall, to now be ranked 18,026.

On the leagues front, theres more good news - bad news. The really bad news is we only won one of our leagues this week, the bad news is we made the winners finals in only two leagues, and the losers finals in the other three, while the good news is were ranked number 2 in our best league.

Join me over the break to see how our team went, and how our finals are shaping up.<!--more-->

So, our individual players performed as follows:

Deledio DEF 144
Scotland DEF 89
Goddard DEF 122
Shaw DEF 73
Lake DEF 57
Carrazzo DEF 78
Yarran DEF 79
Ablett MID 165 Captain 330
Kennedy MID 90
Selwood MID 132
Mitchell MID 86
Pendlebury MID 126
Priddis MID 107
Cox RUC 76
Roughead RUC 114
Dangerfield FWD 127
Sidebottom FWD 121
Riewoldt FWD 102
Martin FWD 76
Porplyzia FWD 15
Goodes FWD 116
Adams FWD 48

Shaw DEF 89
Darley DEF 0
Gibson MID 92
Sexton MID 0
Campbell RUC 44
Pattison RUC 0
Franklin FWD 0
Milera FWD 0

Beginning down back, and we had Deledio leading the way on a huge 144, with Goddard following behind on 122. From there things went south very quickly, with some very disappointing scores coming from the blues brothers in Scotland (89), Yarran (79), and Carrazzo (78). Shaws 73 and Lakes 57 were just as disappointing, but we couldnt cover all of this if we had wanted to, since our bench of Shaw (89 - beating four of our starters) and a Darley donut mean that we could have only wished for a 32 point improvement on team selection.

Onto the mids, and once again its a case of good and bad news. The good was really good, with Captain Gazza doubling up his 165 for a sweet 330 points! Trailing him was Selwood on 132, Pendlebury on 126, and Priddis on 107. After that we had a poor Kennedy 90, and a worse...
The penultimate round of the ORFFL was a pearler; all creamy like. 2 games were decided by less than 5 points, and both have a large bearing on the upcoming final series. Which is in like a weeks time! Exciting! Head over the break and we get to it all!

<!--more-->

But first a message from our sponsors.

As you know, or should know, the first week of the finals series works thusly: 1st gets first choice of opponent, 2nd gets 2nd choice, and so on.

What has yet to be worked out is when these decisions would be made; before teams? After teams? DURING TEAMS??

Have your say in the little box and the bottom of your screen.

TARWIN LOWER PIGS 1297 Def by MALLACTOOTA MAGICIANS 1355

This was one of those matches that was actually quite close, the final margin of 58 points the Magicians way belying how even the contest was for much of the weekend. Which is to say nothing against the DOMINANT performance of Mallacootas finest. Bennell (193, avg. 98) was glorious - is he the best 2nd year player, Johnny?, McVeigh (135, avg. 100) superb, and Barlow (111, avg. 93) finding his scoring fortunes improve with Fremantles. McEvoy (126, avg. 104) also has the rare ability as a ruck man to score large while allowing his opponent to do likewise. The ultimate fantasy team player.

RUN HOME: If not 1st, 2nd.

R17 vs Coulta

The TLP put in a mighty effort to go along with their equally mighty effort last week. On both occasions it just wasnt enough. Giles (177, avg. 91) said anything Dan can do I can do equally well, Bastinac (117, avg. 74)...
Lasts weeks 2,903 would have been rubbing his hands together, right in the box seat for the car, til BAM- knocked off his perch in one week with a 2,918 coming through from Still Fishing, who might I say, picked up that score from outside the top 25k, with Brian Lakes 57 on the field!

Congrats mate.

So, onto the review...

This week, I didnt see coming. Upset after upset, and sure things were pushed right to the wire. Is it just me, or has this season suddenly gotten extremely close again? Or are teams just cruising into the finals?

Hawthorn vs Geelong

Result: Geelong by 2, 18.10.118 to 17.14.116

Geelong to the Hawks- Say it! (And if you get the obscure Scrubs reference, feel free to post Hawthorns reply in the comments.)

Regardless, this was two teams that certainly werent taking things easy. When looking back at the game, its hard to believe that at the start of the second quarter, Geelong were up by more than 50 points!

But the Hawks didnt give up, and they just kept coming (taking a bit of a break in an even 3rd quarter), to tie the game up half way through the final term.

And what a final term, Tommy Hawkins, what a fricking star. 6 goals, including the final 2, one of which was 55m out after the siren. Talk about pressure. Reckon he got a little robbed SC wise though, just a 147SC for his efforts.

Not much clear of 29 touch Selwood who managed a 132SC off his efforts.

The Big O did well if anyone is still holding him, 13 touches and 87SC is the kind of return we were hoping for at the start of the season mate!

Over on the Hawks side, Hale top scored with a big 141 from 17 touches and a goal, while Sewell picked up a 137SC and Rioli a 124SC - who has actually been running a 129.8SC average over the past 5 weeks. #BringingItHomeStrong.

A couple of villians from the Hawks though. Birchall and Lewis would have given you 66 points while...
The penultimate round of the ORFFL Season 2012. If I know my latin correctly, that means its the ultimate round for that plucky domesticated penguin, Pen-Pen. Goodluck, my friend. And good luck to all those ORFFL coaches still vying for a place in the finals. To those above me I hope you lose so I can take your place, and to those at the bottom, I envy the draft picks of anyone out of the 8. Onwards, to preview land!

TARWIN LOWER PIGS (13th, 1220) vs MALLACTOOTA MAGICIANS (2nd, 1265)

Tarwin Lower said goodbye to their finals hopes last weekend with a spirited performance that ended in a loss. Does this mean their seasons over? Ish-ish. They still have an opportunity to stick it to the 2nd placed Magicians, a side warming up their scoring for the impending finals series. On their day the TLP have the fire-power to match it with the best in the ORFFL. Will Saturday be their day? Will Mallacoota coach give Gysberts or Riski a run?

<img src="http://img543.imageshack.us/img543/6992/warvspoo.jpg" alt="" width="480px" />

WARBURTON WANDERERS (3rd, 1242) vs POOWONG POTOROOS (5th, 1228)

One of the matches of the round again includes 5th placed Poowong, this time travelling to Warburton to take on the 3rd placed Wanderers. Poowong need to snap a 2-game losing streak to fend off a fast finishing Meerkats looking to take their 5th spot. Warbuton need to keep wining to keep hold of their 3rd place from an equally fast finishing Sarah Island. Some impressive inclusion for both sides at the weekend; Warburton see Hale and Hartlett press for selection, Poowong find Sherman putting his hand up. Warburton lose Schneider to a leg...
Last week before the finals, and soon, those of us who have held trades, will be able to unleash them onto their league, laughing manically after enduring week-in, week-out donuts for the stretch home.

mwahahahaha.

Well, unless you needed to cash them in for Broughton that is...
