TooSerious

For those who take it way too seriously

Fantasy EPL 2012/2013 is just around the corner, so its time we started discussing all things EPL.

For those that dont know there are couple versions of Fantasy EPL. On here we normally concentrate on the <a href="http://fantasy.premierleague.com/M/myteam.mc" target="_blank">Official FPL and <a href="http://epldreamteam.sportal.com.au//?p=index" target="_blank">Virtual Sports EPL

We are only about 15 days away from start of season so its bout time we got serious about the EPL side of things. With everyone in SC/DT running out trades and basically over the season, what better way to get your fix then this! Over the break we have all our league codes for both fantasy games and also Rate My Team.

Some of the best buys ive managed to stumble across are:

FPL Bargains:

Pogrebnyak - He is a 5.0 striker in FPL and plays TWICE in GW1. What more do you want!

Jaaskelainen -  Cheap keeper (4.5) in FPL who has played EPL for while. Seems best bet of all the cheapies.

VS EPL Bargain:

If you are after some high risk, high reward then look no further then Torres ( £6,540,000). He has double game week to open the season and is sole striker now that Drogba has left (pretty sure hes sole striker now?)

Basically all midfielders offer value this year as they are almost all under 10M. Which from memory is well down, so stack your midfielders with "premiums" and look for bargains elsewhere!

Round 18 recap: OK Ablett is back. He led all scorers with 171 last week (which had followed scores of 150 and 133 in the preceding weeks). Following Ablett was Naitanui (164), Murphy (160), Maric (159), Swallow (158), Jack (158) and Tuck (153).

The numbers suggest that there are quite a few players who should score very solidly this week but, can we really look past Ablett?? Here are the numbers …

Note: Head to head with Thomas in the most recent game. Poor scores in the GF replay playing head to head with Thomas after playing in the first GF very underdone. Otherwise, a very solid record against the Pies. A nice score last week with 137 which had followed two poor scores of 73 and 66.

A big week of ORFFA matches threatened to overshadow the start of another certain major sporting event as many spectators would prefer to watch a good game of  fantasy sport rather than endure endless rounds of swimming heats.

Read on, fellow travellers of the road and all will be revealed over the break.......

Marble Bar 1086 lost to Iron Knob 1454

The Protectors continue on their merry way with Lids and Hurn the best of them. Shane Savage may have atough week at training after a contribution of 5 for the afternoon.

Mt Beauty 1214 defeated Waikikamoocow 781

A tough week for the Kiwis as they struggle to get some sort of team on the park.

Mt Beauty gets the job done, as good sides do. Beau Waters and Cyril both mentioned in dispatches after the game.

Charlies Opening 1290 defeated Nunawading 1081

The Spelunkers midfield runs riot as they trounce the Nuffas underground at the Pit. Allegations of tanking against the Nuffas are entirely untrue, as two large gentlemen in suits from the club explained to the ORFFA management in an offer they said we couldnt refuse.

Mawson Base 1176 defeated Namatjira 1081

The Cox/Beams combination does enough to get the Penguins over the line in a game that went to the last quarter. The only downside is that we had to buy quite a bit of our scientific equipment back from the pawnbrokers after the visit from the Nungas.

Cradle Mountain 1263 defeated Gariwerd 1186

Cracking match this with the rookie combination of the Devon Smith and Zorko the magnificent putting in the big ones for the win. The Cockies just short again in a season that must have been frustrating for the coach.

Gundagai 1395 defeated Birdsville 1358

An absolute exhibition of fantasy sports this one with the Hoppers saluting in spite of a 160 from Murphy. Lenny Hayes showing that he is still premium material with another 100.

Foul Bay 1379 defeated Whitsundays...
The final week before the finals.

Only the one disappointing out, hopefully he can sort himself out! But there are plenty of ins this week, plus SJ looks like hell be playing which is all good!

Welcome once again to the Best Buys.

This week sees a lot of teams putting the trade cue back in the rack as they are safely ensconced in the top 8 in their leagues, however it also offers the last opportunity for those still battling it out for a finals berth to claim their spot. At this time of the year trades are invaluable, and a fair bit of thought needs to be given to all options and ramifications before they are used, as Greg Broughton has now shown. Last week the Stanton to Murphy was a popular trade, however those who used up their final trade and are now stuck with Broughton on the bench will be seriously unimpressed.

This week the pick of the week from me is Marc Murphy, the SMurph. After an injury induced lay-off he came back into some serious form in his last game and on current price is as cheap as chips. As Carlton fight for finals, and look to bring some starting 22 players back into the line-up, SMurph will be leading from the front and a major catalyst for the finals push.

I am also now on twitter, so follow me @BlueBelieverTS for notifications on when the Best Buys article goes up each week, and occasional injury info from the clubs.

For the info on SMurph, and the rest of the Best Buys, join me over the break.

INFO

The Best Buys uses a mix of price, form, break-evens and projected salaries to assess the Best Buys of each round. These are essentially the players that represent the best “value” which is determined by the above factors. Some player will not be mentioned on here even if they are playing well, as value is the key for this article. If a player is averaging 110, which is certainly solid, but priced at an average of 112 then they will not be rated. This does not mean these players should be avoided or not picked due to this, but simply that they aren’t as good “value” as the others in the Best Buys. For all the players I’ve missed, and any more you’re wanting opinions on, the thumbs are always...
Well, here we are after a very high scoring round, and unfortunately the donors couldnt capitalise on all of the points being collected by the popular players. While some were getting 2800, and the top score broke the 2900 mark, the donors managed a relatively poor 2458 points in round 18. This gave us a ranking of 30k for the week, however it was good enough for us to climb 437 places in the overall rankings, to now be 15,298 for the season.

On the leagues front we were 3 and 2. We won our game in Ucantbetooserious, but were ninth on the ladder, with a win and 1.2% behind eighth place. We also won our game in Ucantbe TS, where were in a three-way tie for top spot, but we have the worst percentage. Tsigotatheory saw a loss for the donors, leaving us in 7th place on percentage, a game clear of ninth, but in a five-way tie for that all important 4th spot, and taking on one of our equally placed opponents in the final round. We won our game with the TS Pine Warmers, guaranteeing us a minimum of 7th place, but were only one win away from the log-jam that is teams placed 3rd through 6th. We lost our game in the TS WA league, leaving us precariously placed in 8th place, but tied on points with the two teams below us.

Its going to be an interesting final round of the regular season, but first, join me over the break to see how our boys went in round 18.<!--more-->

Over the page we tell you who they are, and who won and who will likely win again.

JIMCUMBILLY JACKRABBITS (12th) 1390 Def TARWIN LOWER PIGS (13th) 1361

All and sundry predicted a close one between these two sides, the Jackrabbits getting up by just 29 over the Pigs in a high scoring affair, the win keeping their slim finals hopes alive. And yet Jimbumbilly have every reason to believe; NDS (137, avg. 103) and Moloney (103, avg. 67) repaying the faith during what have been disappointing seasons to date.  McPharlin (112, avg. 90) has proved an excellent acquisition to a rapidly improving DEF, and Brock (132, avg. 112)  is making a case for the best pick of all time.

RUN HOME: Possible finals berth however improbable. Jimcumbilly need to win their remaining 2 games against fellow midtablers, while also hoping that Queenstown get up over Popanyinning, but lose in the last round. Its complicated, but definitely possible.

Giles (112, avg. 86) and Geary (106, avg. 69) also made welcome returns to scoring form, while the Porp (100, avg. 84) continued on with his,...

Massive massive scores this week! The highest managed to crack a massive 2,903, which also moved them into the top1000. Will be interesting how the HUN goes with the team name Scroteam though. :D

Anyways, before I move into the review, I just wanted to quickly bring this to the attention of anyone who has missed it: <a href="http://www.afl.com.au/news/newsarticle/tabid/208/newsid/142844/default.aspx">Just the one bye next year, meaning we should be expecting next year, what we got this year. It just depends on if VS change how they deal with it.

Essendon vs Hawthorn

Result: Hawthorn by 94, 27/18/180 to 12.14.86

Wow, dont those Hawks look good. 8 goals to 1 in the first quarter, and just never looked back. Sure, the 3rd quarter broke even, but it was a pure domination for the flag favourites.

I gotta say, on current form, the Bombers are looking to miss the 8, lots of injuries have played there part, but like last year, they just look to be losing their mojo in the second half of the year- just missing those passes that worked in the first half.

Whitecross top scored for the Hawks with 29 touches and 139SC, with Rioli and his 134SC hot on his haunches.

Hodge kicked 5 in his first game back, scoring a 112SC dispite being subbed off!

For the Dons, Watson keeps up his good form, with 37 touches and 120SC.

He was the only ton breaker though, with Stanton a prime villian, held to just 14 touches and 70SC.

Heroes: Whitecross, Rioli, Watson
Villians: Stanton

Geelong vs Adelaide

Result: Geelong by 27, 15.12.102 to 11.9.75

Cant believe I forgot to mention this match in the pre-weekend post! Was always going to be a cracker as two finals-bound teams crashed into each other!

After Stevie J got himself concussed at the opening bounch (Which mind you, is loking bad for the Thompson owners!), and Adelaide putting on the first 2 goals,...
Couple of crackers this week. Essendon/Hawks tonight is always a beauty, as is the Carlton/Richmond game tomorrow night.
