TooSerious

For those who take it way too seriously

The Poms surged back but the Aussies lead by the slendest of margins !!. We have 6 Ashes games this week...........

Mancdave V Yani:
In the grudgematch of the soccer fans Yani was desperate to get his season back on track but his hopes rested on a certain T Cloke. Ask him how that worked out ??. Yup not to well !!. The big Dave inseted the pineapple AND the gimp ball and made Yani suffer some more with a 2205 V 2056 win. I sent Yani $10 to tell me hes next two ins so I can avoid them lol. The big fella Dave sat back and enjoyed this one :)
Eleviathans V Walesy:
Well Walsey plays true to form lol. Second nut low score for the season and bingo he gets the chockies !!!. Good news for Walesy is gives the old sphincster a chance to heal and the donut cushion to get a week off !!. Ele not bothered as he used the friendly to get some new moos in and ready himself for some of Binkys offsiders !!. Walsey shot a 2069 V 1988 for the points and the healing.
Schlock V Edbull:
Schlock used this as a warm up against Edbull and won with a 2108 V 1913 walk in. Think Edbull was hoping for some mercy from Schlock but came up well short !!. Schlock showing Edbull abaout as much mercy as a snake shows a mouse !!..Sure Edbull seen what was coming and saved the trades to fight another day.
Sainter V Supercoachsuperstar:
Sainter, being a young gun, can have his season summed up by being described as coming before proceedings have finished as his season started strong and has slowly tapered off. SCSS started hot favourite but only finished just in front with a 1999 v 1938 win. Maybe SCSS rested some players with “The general” ???.
Ned V Brogie:
In the first of the Ashes games Ned prayed to the good lord but seems he seemed to had a day off as no prayers answered here !!. The Northener that is Brogie with physical violence threatened on his troops was happy to get the points with a 2128 v 1982 win. Unwashed 1-0 up.
Fez v Viddle:
Well Fez found out the...
Well fight fans, another huge weekend of matches looms over us like Sandipants over an Oompa Loompa. Three teams still undefeated, then a log jam between 4th and 15th. It is mathematically possible for the Whitsundays to be in the eight by the end of this round, which just goes to show the even nature of the competition. Join me over the break, where I pose a little puzzle or two for you....

Powletts Plains v Marble Bar

Both teams needing the four points here if they want to keep up with the pack in mid table. Packers still struggling to get a side on the park with Nat Fyfe and Luke Hodge still a way off returning yet. For the Misfits, Paddy Ryder has been showing the way. He just needs a bit of support for Marble Bar to turn it around.

Darraweit Guim v Far Kew

The quiet town of Darraweit Guim might not look like much on the surface. But when you look closer, every hairdresser in town has pictures of a certain long, flowing hairstyle that has taken the town by storm. Maric continues to produce the goods as the Guim look to stay unbeaten. The amphibians look to put the horrors of last weeks thrashing behind them.

Whitsundays v Venus Bay

Relaxed seaside lifestyles link these two clubs and clambake style parties are already planned for after the match social functions. This wont stop Venus Bay from trying to remain unbeaten against a Whitsundays side who won against its coaches expectations last week. An incident of Bufo marinus poisoning being blamed by Whitsundays for some bizarre coaching moves recently.

Birdsville v Foul Bay

Birdsville still reeling from the loss of Murphy, McEvoy and Fisher, which is quite frankly not the best time...
Round 10. Draft Rivalry Round I. Remembering the heady Days of January, when we had just begun this enterprise and everyone's team looked like winners, oh how foolish we all were! This round shall serve as a stark reminder to the follies of yesterday, as the foes of January meet each other on the fantasy football field of June. Read on good traveller, and we shall preview the long burning rivalries that are set to explode this week.

TARWIN LOWER PIGS (12th, 1228) 502/8 vs BONNIE DOON BANDITS (14th, 1142)

A classic encounter between the TLP and the BDB, both on three wins turning into the midseason break and only a couple of rungs on the ORFFL ladder separating the two clubs. Tarwin Lower have proved themselves to be a solid all-round team; 6th in Ruck and Forward divisions, 8th in defence and with the 3rd best IC bench so far. The addition of Where'sWallis to midfield group has steeled an area that was previously brittle for the Pigs.

For the away side, the Bandits, they'll be pleased with 1st round pick Cox, who has single-handedly (does he tap with both hands?) given Bonnie Doon the 3rd best Ruck division in the land. Daisy also looks like returning to his best form, helping out a midfield that has been 7th best so far. Not exactly news, but it's the Bandits defence that really needs help; dead last in the ORFFL averaging just 225 PPG. Geary out for the Pigs will at least make the Bandits task a little easier on the weekend.

POOWONG POTOROOS (2nd, 1269) 690/9 vs MERTON MEERKATS (6th, 1248) 892/11

An epic tussle between two of the ORFFL heavyweights with the Potoroos hosting the Meerkats just before the break. Everything spells a crackerjack match! If Merton...

For mine, I reckon tonights game is gunna be a real hum cracker! Currently tipping the Tigers at the moment, but Ive a real bad feeling that the Saints are still slow playing us a little here... Who have you gone with?
They may take our trades, but theyll never take - our TEEEEAAAMMS!!!!

Round 9 recap: Last round there were 21 scores over 125. Sadly, not one of these players received a mention in my Captain’s Log – Round 9 edition. The top scorers were Dayne Beams (175), Mitch Robinson (161), Matt Rosa (158), Matthew Broadbent (153), Todd Goldstein (153) and Shane Tuck (148). If you had them in your team and somehow put the captaincy on them, I salute you.

Round 9 regrets: For the rest of us, Ablett disappointed with a 111 against Port Adelaide despite his great record against them. My next choices were even worse: Stanton (72), Watson (108) and Judd (80). My final choice was perma-captain in waiting, Pendlebury, who was solid with 118 whilst my smoky choice of Deledio crashed back to earth after his huge game the previous round with 117.

The numbers, once again, however, point to a clear choice …

PF 2007: 176 SC points, 31 disposals
Rd 15 2007: 84 SC points, 32 disposals

Average is 131 SC points with 33 disposals.

Note: Fantastic record against Collingwood with only two scores below 100. Most recently tagged by Johnson in 2011 but has played a lot of game head to head against Swan. Since his return from injury, he has scored 125, 150 and 111.

Cox v. Brisbane

Well folks, pocket protectors and coke bottle glasses were all the rage this week in the Geek Pride round. She blinded me with science by Thomas Dolby was played before the start of each game in a vague attempt to connect nerdism with a musical theme. Some big scores this round again combined with the Whitsundays first win of the year which will be explored over the break...........<!--more-->

Marble Bar 1146 lost to Mt Beauty 1332

The Kiewa Valley boys post a good score on the roughest ground in the ORFFA.

Sidearse and Beau waters combining to sink the Misfits, who must be considering Aaron Halls future given his failure to turn up on match day. David Myers and Billy Bob also looking over their shoulders after serving up doughnuts to the Marble Bar coach.

Charlies Opening 1363 lost to Iron Knob 1450

Huge scoring match in windless conditions underground. Iron Knob pumping out 7 100+ scores on their way to a win at The Pit, big Goldy leading the way with a 153.

Mawson Base 1342 defeated Waikikamoocow 1166

The Freezer claims its first victim as the Penguins get the choccies over a plucky Kiwi side. Mitch Robinsons 161 no match for Beams 175 and Rosa 158 as the Antarcticans romp home. Incorrigibles crueled by a weak forward line performance and facing a long trip home across the Southern Ocean.

Cradle Mountain 1216 defeated Nunawading 761

A round the Nuffas would rather forget after eating more doughnuts than a career policeman this week. Mid year draft cant come soon enough for Nuna, with a shocking injury list. Daisy and Jack Redden doing good work for CM with 118 just business as usual for Pendles.

Gundagai 1144 defeated Namatjira 1047

The Nungas must be wondering what they have to steal to win a game at the moment, with Saad their only player topping the ton. The Grasshoppers hop home despite a ho hum 71 from Sandipants

Foul Bay 1402 defeated Gariwerd 1279

The Chickens...
Hi all, and welcome back to this weeks edition of The Best Buys.

The midway point of the season is fast approaching now, and some big decisions about team structure and tactics will now need to be made. Will coaches stick with the tried-and-true formulas of seasons past, or will they follow the AFLs lead and usher in a changing of the guard? There’s a lot of uncertainty going around, and luckily the Best Buys is here to help (or just confuse you even more).

This weeks tip from me, is Nicky Dal. He has started this season slowly and is returning to some form as of late, but many coaches will be put off by his poor output to date this season. Interestingly enough though, when you delve a little deeper into his stats, he’s actually tracking a fair bit better this season then he was at this time last year. Bargain priced at just over 500 grand he has proven before what his output can be when in form, and will hopefully bring last years form-line into this one.

Over the break is a graph comparing NDS’ form-line from last season to his form-line this season to date, and a bit of a spiel on just what a “semi-upgrade” is.

So, grab a coffee, and join me over the break!,

<!--more-->

Ok, so I lied. Sorry about that. I was fully intending on putting a nice little graph on NDS in here but I got distracted at home last night and can’t put it up now I’m at work due to browser issues. But for anyone interested in NDS this week I would recommend heading over to his stats page, and having a look yourself.

The Semi-Upgrade?
With a lot of coaches now running low on trades, taking into account 6 or so trades around the byes, some people may be looking to get a sneaky edge on their opponents with a couple of early “semi-upgrades” this year. A “semi-upgrade” is essentially where coaches playing for league wins rather than overall bring in a cheaper player in good form in the hope that they can maintain that form until the finals are approaching, before...
Wow, what an absolute humdinger of a season. There were more swings and roundabouts than a swing and roundabout factory. All culminating in the most dramatic finish in EPL history. Man City looked like they’d bottled it big time before coming back from the abyss in incredible scenes. It was far from the only story of the season though so join me over the break for more and I’ll also post my team of the year.<!--more-->

The Fallen

Blackburn and Wolves, it could be argued, went down as a result of mismanagement from above. Blackburn sticking with the despised Steve Kean despite his shocking results last season after taking over from Allardyce. He’s clearly well in there with Venky’s though and as such was kept on when really he shouldn’t have been. Blackburn going down was a surprise to very few. I imagine Big Sam, recently promoted with West Ham will give Kean a wave, or the finger or a court summons on the way past.

Wolves meanwhile sacked McCarthy well after the supporters had demanded it last year. As it happened they kept him on until after the January transfer window which meant the new man had no opportunity to bring in his own players. It was also apparent after the sacking that no-one wanted the job hence the Connor appointment. He failed to win a game.

Bolton disappointed, they had their chances but blew them, none more so than in the penultimate game when they lost two late goals at home to West Brom. They were unfortunate though, to lose their two best players for the season in Stuart Holden and Chung-Yong Lee as well as last season’s loanee Daniel Sturridge. Simply though they weren’t good enough and like the other two face an almighty battle to get back up.

The Escape Artists

It’s possibly unfair but it feels a bit like QPR and Villa stayed up by default. Villa picked up their points earlier in the season and just as well as they were on a horrendous run for the last half of the season. They picked up less points than McLeish’s...
A relatively good week for the Donors this week, not quite the lofty standards that we set ourselves last week, but still, a 2157 and 15,859 ranking for the round isn’t too bad. This score helps us continue our rise up the ladder, this week climbing 2,290 spots to be 9,312 overall (so we’re now finally in the top 10k!). We lost our game in Ucantbetooserio to be 12th in that league, and won all our others, to be 2nd in Ucantbe TS and TS Igotatheory, 4th in TS Pine Warmers, and 10th in the TS WA League.

So, how did our individual team go, and how are we shaping up for the future going into the bye rounds? Join me over the break to find out.<!--more-->

The round 9 team looked just like this:

1. Deledio,DEF,117
2. Goddard,DEF,97
3. Broughton,DEF,74
4. Shaw,DEF,105
5. Clarke,DEF,50
6. Lake,DEF,78
7. Bugg,DEF,48
8. Pendlebury Vice Captain,MID,118
9. Kennedy,MID,122
10. Selwood,MID,110
11. Ablett Captain 111 x 2 ,MID,222
12. Horsley,MID,75
13. McDonald,MID,74
14. Cox,RUC,68
15. Giles,RUC,92
16. Sidebottom,FWD,142
17. Dangerfield,FWD,87
18. Franklin,FWD,73
19. Roughead,FWD,109
20. Martin,FWD,119
21. Porplyzia,FWD,62
22. Treloar,FWD,115
,,
1. Morris,DEF,57
2. Darley Emergency,DEF,23
3. Smith,MID,71
4. Kennedy Emergency,MID,17
5. Redden,RUC,0
6. Pattison,RUC,0
7. Milera Emergency,FWD,57
8. Adams,FWD,55

Once again starting in defence and we had Deledio leading the way on 117 as the Tigers shocked pretty-much everyone to give the Hawks a pasting! Shaw followed him home on 105, being our only two defenders to break the ton this week. From there we had Goddard on 97, Lake on 78, Broughton on 74, Clarke on 50, and Bugg on 48. On the pine we had Morris on 57, and our emergency Darley on 23 points. Had have we picked Morris over Bugg we would have picked up an extra 9 points, but thats the only selection change that would have netted us more points in defence this week.

Moving onto the midfield, with Kennedy bringing it home...
