TooSerious

For those who take it way too seriously

Wow, what an absolute humdinger of a season. There were more swings and roundabouts than a swing and roundabout factory. All culminating in the most dramatic finish in EPL history. Man City looked like they’d bottled it big time before coming back from the abyss in incredible scenes. It was far from the only story of the season though so join me over the break for more and I’ll also post my team of the year.<!--more-->

The Fallen

Blackburn and Wolves, it could be argued, went down as a result of mismanagement from above. Blackburn sticking with the despised Steve Kean despite his shocking results last season after taking over from Allardyce. He’s clearly well in there with Venky’s though and as such was kept on when really he shouldn’t have been. Blackburn going down was a surprise to very few. I imagine Big Sam, recently promoted with West Ham will give Kean a wave, or the finger or a court summons  on the way past.

Wolves meanwhile sacked McCarthy well after the supporters had demanded it last year. As it happened they kept him on until after the January transfer window which meant the new man had no opportunity to bring in his own players. It was also apparent after the sacking that no-one wanted the job hence the Connor appointment. He failed to win a game.

Bolton disappointed, they had their chances but blew them, none more so than in the penultimate game when they lost two late goals at home to West Brom. They were unfortunate though, to lose their two best players for the season in Stuart Holden and Chung-Yong Lee as well as last season’s loanee Daniel Sturridge. Simply though they weren’t good enough and like the other two face an almighty battle to get back up.

The Escape Artists

It’s possibly unfair but it feels a bit like QPR and Villa stayed up by default. Villa picked up their points earlier in the season and just as well as they were on a horrendous run for the last half of the season. They picked up less points than McLeish’s...
A relatively good week for the Donors this week, not quite the lofty standards that we set ourselves last week, but still, a 2157 and 15,859 ranking for the round isn’t too bad. This score helps us continue our rise up the ladder, this week climbing 2,290 spots to be 9,312 overall (so we’re now finally in the top 10k!). We lost our game in Ucantbetooserio to be 12th in that league, and won all our others, to be 2nd in Ucantbe TS and TS Igotatheory, 4th in TS Pine Warmers, and 10th in the TS WA League.

So, how did our individual team go, and how are we shaping up for the future going into the bye rounds? Join me over the break to find out.<!--more-->

The round 9 team looked just like this:

1. Deledio,DEF,117
2. Goddard,DEF,97
3. Broughton,DEF,74
4. Shaw,DEF,105
5. Clarke,DEF,50
6. Lake,DEF,78
7. Bugg,DEF,48
8. Pendlebury Vice Captain,MID,118
9. Kennedy,MID,122
10. Selwood,MID,110
11. Ablett Captain 111 x 2 ,MID,222
12. Horsley,MID,75
13. McDonald,MID,74
14. Cox,RUC,68
15. Giles,RUC,92
16. Sidebottom,FWD,142
17. Dangerfield,FWD,87
18. Franklin,FWD,73
19. Roughead,FWD,109
20. Martin,FWD,119
21. Porplyzia,FWD,62
22. Treloar,FWD,115
,,
1. Morris,DEF,57
2. Darley Emergency,DEF,23
3. Smith,MID,71
4. Kennedy Emergency,MID,17
5. Redden,RUC,0
6. Pattison,RUC,0
7. Milera Emergency,FWD,57
8. Adams,FWD,55

Once again starting in defence and we had Deledio leading the way on 117 as the Tigers shocked pretty-much everyone to give the Hawks a pasting! Shaw followed him home on 105, being our only two defenders to break the ton this week. From there we had Goddard on 97, Lake on 78, Broughton on 74, Clarke on 50, and Bugg on 48. On the pine we had Morris on 57, and our emergency Darley on 23 points. Had have we picked Morris over Bugg we would have picked up an extra 9 points, but thats the only selection change that would have netted us more points in defence this week.

Moving onto the midfield, with Kennedy bringing it home...

MOUNT BUGGERY DISAPPOINTMENTS1346 DefTARWIN LOWER PIGS1254

A battle between two of the form teams in the ORFFL; Mount Buggery proving to strong for Tarwin Lower, defeating them by 102 points. Goldy (153) relishing being the only game at North Melbourne, Pearce (142) backing up his 158 from last week and Sidebum (142) in PB from (3R Avg. 136). Watts (80) didn't the standard he set last week, and so we can presume that the chief didn't remember what he said to Jack, and thus did not deliver the message again. That solves that mystery.

Now onto another at Tarwin Lower; did Dan177 repeat his 177? No, he did not (57). Veterans O'Keefe (109) and NRoo (115) turned back the clock, again. Dependles (118) was himself, Hanley (112) got a stack of it, but the real story was Where'sWallis (108); averaging 107 over the last 3 games. A revelation for the Pigs in the past month.

COULTA COULDABEENS1346 DefBONNIE DOON BANDITS1115

TheCouldabeensDiddawon, scoring a mighty1346, trampling over the hapless by 231 points in the process. Priddis (119) returned rejuvenated, Reilly (117, avg. 97) similarly over the whole season. It was the evenness of Coulta that stood out this weekend; 6 players scoring in the 90's, to go along with 4 hitting triple figures on the weekend. Nice spread.

It was a bit of a dismal day(s) for Bonnie Doon. Daisy (134) lit up Saturday night, as did Tippett (104), while Harvey (103) pressed up hard and ran like mad. That was pretty much it though. 3 players scored in the...
Hi all,

The Brownlow votes for the first nine rounds are finally in.  Whilst its been quite the wait, there has been significant work gone in to building this years machine - which considers possessions, goals, hitouts, fantasy scores, individual players history, looks at what has happened in the past and now makes predictions on the games that have happened this year to date.

Our leader after 9 rounds is a Crow on 18 votes.  Whilst this seems high after only 9 rounds, two players last year picked up 20+ votes in a 10 round period (Swan with 21 between rounds 14-23, and Mitchell with 22 votes between rounds 12-21).  He is followed by a Bomber on 16 in red hot form, and 4 votes clear of a Pie and a Dog who round up the top 3.  Interestingly, only 1 of the current top 10 polled this week, which is in line with the lower SC round weve all just been through.

Click over the page to see the entire breakdown of the first 9 rounds, including team and overall leaderboards.
Well with the Unwashed that is the Poms getting closer than they should it was up to the Aussies to see if they could gap the soap dodgers in the Ashes wins. Dodgers recon theyre up for it but time will tell ?????.........

Ned V Fez: Ned I think sensed Fez going easy in a local derby reading for a crack at 1 of the unwashed and had a dip at this game ?. Fez shot a 2219 but wasnt good enough for Neds 2288. Ned after a slow start has his season back on track and Fez not bothered as his season has been going well.

Viddle V Yani: This game however was a grudge match with no holds bared !!. Viddle wanted to hurt Yani and his 2292 V Yanis 2271 was just the ticket for that. Pineapple inserted Viddle has felt relaxed and comfortable with the result. The same cannot be said for Yani who was bitter at the result and vowes to take it out on next weeks opponent !!.

Crossy V UA: Crossy jumped out of the blocks in this local derby and shot a 2376 which was an honest score but UA being a powerhouse went 1 better with a 2412. Word on the street is Crossy had a liquid tea that night as the appetite just wasnt there !!. :) Crossy also looking at taking the bitter pill into next weeks game !!.

Bones V Edbull: Bones shot a 2275 and handed Edbull a harsh one with Edbull scoring a 2270 !!. Story of Edbulls season lol. Bones not giving a stuff and happy to take the chokies as no mercy given in true SC fashion !!.

Sainter V Brogie: In the first of the Ashes games Sainter went in with a wounded team and came out wounded !!!. His 2081 falling well short of Brogies 2446. Brogie being a far can Northener showed the young convict no mercy and tore him a new one !!. Unwashed 1-0 up

Supercoachsuperstar V Slarty: The blue ranga was the next of the bath dodgers to step up and suffered as a result his 2226 not good enough as SCSSs 2292 got the cigar !!. SCSS yet again gets the biz done when needed and chalks 1 up for the Aussies !!. TS 1-1 all

Eleviathan V...
Last week was nice, but its a strong bounce back down to earth this week with 2150-2200 looking about the par.

While there were a fair few ouch scores, there werent however, too many shockers. just not many going large.

Nor were there many injuries, which is something we can all be thankful for.

So with that in mind, lets all jump into the review.

Western vs Geelong

Result: Geelong by 20, 14.11.95 to 11.9.75

The first half was fairly well dominated by the cats, even though the Dogs kept themselves in it with some very straight kicking in front of goal. After half time however, it was a much more even affair, though now it seemed to be the Dogs turn to kick astray in front of goal, registering 5.7 after half time to 8.2

Stevie J led the way for the Cats, collecting 36 disposals and 146SC. Did you notice though when Scott was interviewed after the game, and asked about SJs "brilliant game"?, he looked pissed, and his - "yeah, well, he did get a lot of it" - made me think that he wasnt too impressed with it. Maybe he was straying too far from goals for Scotts liking?

Chappy did well with 27 touches and 128SC, while Hawkins scored a 119SC with a couple of late goals making the difference.

Boyd top scored for the Dogs, with 34 touches and 125SC- a classic Boyd effort really, just racked it up all game.

Wallis was very good, 24 touches for a 108SC, was up their with Liberatore and his 100SC.

Lake struggled to get much of the ball, playing a fairly tight role on Hawkins, but still managed a 78SC off 15 touches.

Rookie, Pearce, put up his first game, a full one, but could only make 9 touches for a 35SC.

Heroes: Johnson, Chapman, Hawkins, Boyd
Villians: Hargrave

Richmond vs Hawthorn

Result: Richmond by 62, 21.11.137 to 10.15.75

Yes, you read that right. Richmond, 10 goals in front. Against the "Premiership...

MOUNT BUGGERY DISAPPOINTMENTS (11th, avg. 1199) 729/8 vs TARWIN LOWER PIGS (10th, 1225) 934/11

Ive been educated by the football media that a week is a long time in football, and, if possible, to take that week once at a time. Last week the TLP and the MBD scored 1496 and 1449. I would definitely that just one of those weeks at a time. Regardless, the big question arising out of this match are thus: can Dan177 top last week and kick 7 in a quarter? Will walesy remember what he said to Watts and Pearce before last weekend? And if he does, will it work a second time?

COULTA COULDABEENS (8th, 1218) 1022/11 vs BONNIE DOON BANDITS (14th, 1145)  763/11

Another match thats a bit on the uneven side; 14th place Bonnie Doon travelling to face 8th placed Coulta. The recently found ability to field a full team has seen Bonnie average 1200+ over the past 3 weeks, a mark they failed to reach in the earlier part of the season. The host the Couldabeens have been tracking along nicely; Zaka running into a nice patch (avg. 117 over the last month), and Reilly (avg. 94) a revelation from R26 of the draft.

GLENROWAN GUNSLINGERS (16th, 1143) 776/9 vs POOWONG POTOROOS (2nd, 1265) 947/10

Bit of a lob-sided affair this one, with 16th placed Glenrowan hosting 2nd placed Poowong. Some fun facts then: last week scored a mighty 457 in the midfield. Whats more astonishing is that thats 10 points above there average. While at the Gunslingers, the loss of Bock is really hurting them, averaging just 276 points in the back...
Well goodness me, here it is round 3 already and time to pay homage to the intellectually gifted but physically challenged types who seem to make up a fair percentage of our coaches.

Round 8 recap: Is there any more doubt about Ablett or his fitness or his role? He responded with a huge 150 which is good enough for me to reinstate him as the perma-captain. For those who (still!) don’t have him, my other choices of Stanton (142) and Pendlebury (147) impressed. Cox was also very impressive despite the Naitanui return with a solid 139.

Round 8 regrets: Watson was a slight disappointment with 111 and found himself camped in the forward line more than usual. From memory, I think he missed a gettable goal in the last quarter which certainly would have boosted his score in a close match. Swan had a poor average of 100 against Geelong and couldn’t even hit that score with a below par 97. And for those with Murphy, well, enough said.

With Swan and Murphy out injured, the number of potential captains has slightly dwindled. But the statistics again, point to two clear cut choices …

Average is 140 SC points with 27 disposals.

Note: Fantastic record against Melbourne. Four scores over 150. Take out his lowest score from 2006 and the average jumps to 149 SC points. Tagged by McKenzie in the two games last year and was tagged by McDonald in 2010. Melbourne tried to tag him with Moloney in 2009. Melbourne struggling at the moment and will likely try to curb Judd’s influence in Murphy’s absence. Since being rested three rounds ago, has come back to score 144 then 113.
