2012 List Analysis:

Brisbane is a team that is not made at all in the image of their coach.   Apart from the red hair of course!  A team of battlers and triers grouped into a cohesive unit that looks steady but never dominating.   From the list analysis, its about right.   Therefore this season one can see the ranks of the Lions Lower-Mid collection moving up towards the Midprice and starting to improve the real depth of the team, rather than seeing a player like Buchanan as someone who can actually offer the team something, when its clear that hes not in the top rung of players any more.  Pity really, because he was my most influential player on the ground in the 2005 GF, particularly the last term.  Sorry Juddy.

The Lions appear to have the ability to bat deep in the midfield, and with a better run from injury from Drummond, they could get their defence nicely tuned.  The ruck division at least for this year is looking strong.   That leaves an absolute mess called the forwards division. Its so in need of improvement from the skipper Jonathan Brown its not funny.   JB at his best gets not just goals himself, but he wills other players into the game.   For Brisbane to become a realistic finals threat this year, they need JB at Premium level, and some young players under the Midprice level to step up their game.   You cant base finals on the efforts of McGrath and Banfield.   And for that reason, at least on my list analysis, Brisbane has the worst forward line in the competition.   Crisis creates opportunity for the buyer willing to take a big risk.

On the whole Brisbanes list ranks a score of 32, with only 17 depth...

Man United v WBA

WBA, Wolves, Fulham, Blackburn, QPR, Wigan, Villa &amp; Everton. That’s United’s opponents before they face City towards the end of the season. It makes for nice reading for United supporters. This week though, WBA might not be straightforward. They’re off the back of 5-1 (Wolves), 4-0 (Sunderland) and 1-0 (Chelsea), impressive stuff.

United picked up three more points against a Spurs side that have been educated on what it takes to win a title ie go to one of your rivals, take a pumping, give platitudes to your opponents, as you head off up the road with three points in the bank.

Rooney is hot just now, while Young scored twice and assisted last week.

Arsenal v Newcastle

It’s been a relatively good week for the Gunners. A comprehensive 3-0 against Milan, that wasn’t quite enough to see them through in the UCL, as well as a 2-1 at Liverpool where RVP was the difference. Van Persie has now scored the winner for Arsenal on 10 different occasions this year.

Pardew – who may or may not have calmed down since his “<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l-B0HwOkkH4">get it right up you[/url]” to O’Neill in last week’s fiery derby clash – will be desperate not to lose and keep pace with the Gunners for fourth place. They have a poor record in London though and will do well to reverse that.

Newcastle have Lovenkrands out for the season, while Arteta should return for the Gunners.

Everton v Spurs

Redknapp surprisingly played VDV, Bale and Lennon in their midweek FA Cup replay versus Stevenage. Lennon was taken off with a hammy. Dawson is probably out for the season. They dominated Man United last week but unfortunately for them dropped more points. Arsenal are now only four points behind them.

Everton will be aiming to continue their good run and have Rodwell and Osman available again.

Chelsea v Stoke

Di Matteo has JT and Cole both available...
Supercoach Season Preview 2012 - Adelaide

2012 Supercoach Player Ranking Chart

&nbsp;

2012 List Analysis:

Adelaide has  lot of players in the upper-mid area compared to the rest of the competition and need to progress their development in order to progress up the ladder.   The thing is, most people believe they will do just that, with players such as Sloane and Dangerfield consistently at the tip of the tongue for any players wishing to bring mid-price selections into their Supercoach team.

Jacobs is clearly a critical player in the Adelaide structure.  Without him, Tippett or Jenkins needs to take the ruck, and there would be a huge shuffle up forward.   The key for Sauce is to stay fit and healthy and churn out the 116 Supercoach points (which the Adelaide ruck division averaged in 2011) on his own.    Jacobs therefore is an intelligent midprice selection.

On the whole Adelaides list ranks a score of 36, with 22 depth players.   This places them 13th in quality of best 22, but equal 5th in terms of depth.  Thus once again, the key for Adelaide is to develop what is already there, and make it better quality.  If the quality doesnt rise, nor will Adelaide.

2011 Supercoach Statistics:

PPG Average: 1594 (Ranked 14)

DEF Average: 566 (7) - 35%

MID Average:  603 (9) - 38%
FWD Average: 310 (13) - 19%
RUC Average: 116 (12) -  7%

Adelaide were a middling bunch last year, but the clear view from their SuperCoach statistics is that the ball spent too long in their defence.  Is Sanderson happy with such tactics in 2012, or will he look for a more forward-press style approach?   Time will tell.   The Crows midfield is one that ranked average in 2011, and...
Hi all,

Its been a while since I wrote some articles here.

What Ive been doing over summer is watching some cricket, drafting some players into my ORFFL team (Humpty Doo Hammerheads) and relaxing without the weekly worry of trying to produce good trades for my team, or poring over Herald-Sun trumped up injury reports.  Talk about making a crisis out of very little.

But now, its time that I lifted the game and got focussed on what will be another classic Supercoach season.  There are enough pitfalls to trap even the most experience players up this year, and Im hoping we all pull together on the site and share good strategies and systems to get our teams into the prime slots during the season.

How Im going to operate from now until season launch is to give some previews for each of the teams.  Read on after the break for how I intend to do this.

<!--more-->

In these Season Previews I will give a list of player rankings and how they stack up.

Elite is the ranking for the best 9 Forwards, 9 Defenders, 8 Midfielders and 4 Ruckmen - but ranked not merely on PPG, but also on season points.   This means that players who play only a few games but shoot the lights out (Tutt, McIntosh, etc) dont overshadow others who might have had a great season - and more points overall - but just did it in a more methodical fashion.

Ive saved Premium positions for those who are ranked in the top 10% players - and this might prove a little contentious - grouped by positions.   This means that roughly 100 points per game and 20+ games in a season are required for midfielders, but the requirement for defenders is quite a bit less than this.  My reason behind this is that SuperCoach teams could decide at the start of the year to load up on Premium players seeking for them to become elite, and getting them for a bargain.   Premium midfielders are still mighty expensive (and given they arent even top 8); maybe too much so.

All other positional rankings are...
After last weeks debarcle, can I just be the first to say: Carn the Bombers!~!!

And with that, join us in the chat over the break.
This was a long matchup, which included the All Star break and 10 days of NBA games within it. We therefore saw some huge scores, with 2 teams scoring greater than 2500! Fez scored 2634 in Division 1, but he was pipped by smokinjoemisiti in Div2 with 2676. The lowest score this week went to Walesy in Premier Division with just 1577 - more than 1000 points less than the best... but of course, Walesy can be excused with all the great work thats been happening around the site, so Im gonna throw in the next highest/lowest - Underachievers with 1680 in Division 1. The highest scoring loser this week was the previously undefeated bgt2110 in Division 1 with a whopping score of 2281, which only 8 teams scored better than. There werent actually many close games this round, with the closest margin being 58 points in Premier Division between myself - ant hak - and Owen.

Over the break will be the usual reviews by myself, Steve and smokinjoemisiti:::::::::

As mentioned above, this was the closest game across the 3 leagues this week. and even though my team was more affected by injuries, I still ended up with 4 more games played over the fortnight, and in such a close game, I think this played a part this time round. Owen did not make a single player swap throughout the matchup - using the same 13 players all the way through; whereas I used all 5 of my acquisitions and 17 players all up. It was such a close game...

Reckon Smedts will get on the park this week? I'm getting more and more bearish by the week. That fact that he's been named though is a good thing! Stephenson will be better for the run, while another look at Horlin-Smith and Hogan can only be a good thing!

Im going to just say something very quickly before jumping into the reviews.

Wow, these subs make it difficult! Really make it tough to get a good read, and will definitely catch people out at round 1 if they just go by raw numbers!

That is all, onto the reviews.

Gold Coast vs Geelong

Result: Geelong by 49, 1.16.13 to 1.8.12

First of all, the bad news. Smedts and Hall (Hammy tightness) were both late omisions, preventing us from seeing their work.

Now, with that out of the way, well take a quick look around the players. I say quick because really, it was tough to take too much out of it with so many Cats missing.

Gaz was fantastic. 25 touches (19 in the first half!) and two goals, hes just a machine. It will be tough to justify any leaving him out of their squads. (Scored a 140SC)

Bock reprized his roll up forward, and again looked really strong. Damn his first two missing games, but migh make for a good early back upgrade if he starts well. He collected 17 touches and kicked 4.4

Swallow only picked up 7 touches, but didnt get much gametime at all. I would expect that to rise.

Jimmy Bartel, oh how we love Jimmy. 26 touches and 3.3 in a mid/forward role that has been very lucrative for him in the past. Sadly though, when the rest of the cats outfit comes back, I reckon hell be back to where he was left last year. (Scored a 141SC)

Hogan go a lot of the ball, 23 touches, playing a tagging roll on Ablett. If hes set to continue this role, he looks a great get - but its a tough call, as mentioned, with so many cats out.

Cameron Guthrie continues to impress. 22 disposals in defense, and Im thinking that if he can continue this form, hes got to be every chance to line up round 1. (Scored a 109SC)

Mackie left the field late with a dislocated finger, but shouldnt be effected by it.

I reckon Stephenson has put a...
Righteo, so lets crack straight into Bearflys second article.

[span style="font-size:10pt">In last week’s article I provided a run-down of the players at Alberton from the main defence training group, this week it is the midfield group under the microscope. So without further ado, I present part 2 of the Port Adelaide Update. [span style="font-size:10pt;font-weight:bold">Midfield Group[span style="font-size:10pt;font-style:normal">The main Midfield training group, training under new assistant coaches Josh Carr &amp; Shaun Rehn, comprises the following players: Travis Boak, Matthew Broadbent, Domenic Cassisi, Kane Cornes, Brad Ebert, Robbie Gray, Hamish Hartlett, John McCarthy, Andrew Moore, Cameron O’Shea, David Rodan, Steven Salopek, Paul Stewart, Matt Thomas, Danny Butcher (r) [span style="font-size:10pt">– with several players from this group also spending time training with either the forward or defence groups, and several members from those two groups occasionally training with the mids. [span style="font-size:10pt">With new assistant coaches Carr &amp; Rehn coming into their roles having had the benefit of observing how the group played throughout 2011 with an impartial, but critical eye, it was deemed that the midfield group needed a lot of work to improve their fitness and work rate. Over the pre-season, the group as a whole have done that, showing a strong desire &amp; commitment to work hard on the track &amp; in the gym, as well as learn some new structures introduced to make them more accountable to their positions. [span style="font-size:10pt">

With a good core of talented midfielders such as Boak, Broadbent, Hartlett, Brad Ebert, McCarthy &amp; several others, this group has developed a strong bond over pre-season &amp; work well together. When you look at all the great teams over...
Theres an ORFFL pre-season championship going on if you didnt know. Which you probably didnt, as I didnt bother to inform you. Very slack of me.

Its happening though, and most importantly, its happening right now! Join us over the break to see how your team is fairing in this weird and irrelevant competition.

<!--more-->

I say weird and irrelevant because just like the AFL pre-season comp, the ORFFL Challenged Cup draws on results from meaningless games and contains scoring that bears no resemblance to the real thing.

Because SuperCoach scores are unforthcoming as of yet, Ive used DT/100 mins as a basis, and because no ones bothered to schedule matches or pick sides, coaches will be getting the points for every player that gets on the park.

Just like the "real thing", Ill be more than willing to introduce new rules/scoring systems for other proceeding rounds. And Ill update the scoreboard when I get R2 scores.
