TooSerious

For those who take it way too seriously

After last weeks debarcle, can I just be the first to say: Carn the Bombers!~!!

And with that, join us in the chat over the break.
This was a long matchup, which included the All Star break and 10 days of NBA games within it. We therefore saw some huge scores, with 2 teams scoring greater than 2500! Fez scored 2634 in Division 1, but he was pipped by smokinjoemisiti in Div2 with 2676. The lowest score this week went to Walesy in Premier Division with just 1577 - more than 1000 points less than the best... but of course, Walesy can be excused with all the great work thats been happening around the site, so Im gonna throw in the next highest/lowest - Underachievers with 1680 in Division 1. The highest scoring loser this week was the previously undefeated bgt2110 in Division 1 with a whopping score of 2281, which only 8 teams scored better than. There werent actually many close games this round, with the closest margin being 58 points in Premier Division between myself - ant hak - and Owen.

Over the break will be the usual reviews by myself, Steve and smokinjoemisiti:::::::::

As mentioned above, this was the closest game across the 3 leagues this week. and even though my team was more affected by injuries, I still ended up with 4 more games played over the fortnight, and in such a close game, I think this played a part this time round. Owen did not make a single player swap throughout the matchup - using the same 13 players all the way through; whereas I used all 5 of my acquisitions and 17 players all up. It was such a close game...

GEELONG

1. Mitchell Brown, 2. Billie Smedts, 9. James Kelly, 11. Joel Corey, 12. Trent West, 13. Tom Lonergan, 15. Jordan Schroder, 17. Shannon Byrnes, 19. Taylor Hunt, 20. Steven Johnson, 22. Reckon Smedts will get on the park this week? I'm getting more and more bearish by the week. That fact that he's been named though is a good thing! Stephenson will be better for the run, while another look at Horlin-Smith and Hogan can only be a good thing!

Im going to just say something very quickly before jumping into the reviews.

Wow, these subs make it difficult! Really make it tough to get a good read, and will definitely catch people out at round 1 if they just go by raw numbers!

That is all, onto the reviews.

Gold Coast vs Geelong

Result: Geelong by 49, 1.16.13 to 1.8.12

First of all, the bad news. Smedts and Hall (Hammy tightness) were both late omisions, preventing us from seeing their work.

Now, with that out of the way, well take a quick look around the players. I say quick because really, it was tough to take too much out of it with so many Cats missing.

Gaz was fantastic. 25 touches (19 in the first half!) and two goals, hes just a machine. It will be tough to justify any leaving him out of their squads. (Scored a 140SC)

Bock reprized his roll up forward, and again looked really strong. Damn his first two missing games, but migh make for a good early back upgrade if he starts well. He collected 17 touches and kicked 4.4

Swallow only picked up 7 touches, but didnt get much gametime at all. I would expect that to rise.

Jimmy Bartel, oh how we love Jimmy. 26 touches and 3.3 in a mid/forward role that has been very lucrative for him in the past. Sadly though, when the rest of the cats outfit comes back, I reckon hell be back to where he was left last year. (Scored a 141SC)

Hogan go a lot of the ball, 23 touches, playing a tagging roll on Ablett. If hes set to continue this role, he looks a great get - but its a tough call, as mentioned, with so many cats out.

Cameron Guthrie continues to impress. 22 disposals in defense, and Im thinking that if he can continue this form, hes got to be every chance to line up round 1. (Scored a 109SC)

Mackie left the field late with a dislocated finger, but shouldnt be effected by it.

I reckon Stephenson has put a...
Righteo, so lets crack straight into Bearflys second article.

I know if youre like me, your first thought is going to be: Tell me about Redden!!1! - but alas, youre all going to have to wait on that one. :D

[span style="font-size:10pt">In last week’s article I provided a run-down of the players at Alberton from the main defence training group, this week it is the midfield group under the microscope. So without further ado, I present part 2 of the Port Adelaide Update. [span style="font-size:10pt;font-weight:bold">Midfield Group[span style="font-size:10pt;font-style:normal">The main Midfield training group, training under new assistant coaches Josh Carr & Shaun Rehn, comprises the following players: Travis Boak, Matthew Broadbent, Domenic Cassisi, Kane Cornes, Brad Ebert, Robbie Gray, Hamish Hartlett, John McCarthy, Andrew Moore, Cameron O’Shea, David Rodan, Steven Salopek, Paul Stewart, Matt Thomas, Danny Butcher (r) [span style="font-size:10pt">– with several players from this group also spending time training with either the forward or defence groups, and several members from those two groups occasionally training with the mids. [span style="font-size:10pt">With new assistant coaches Carr & Rehn coming into their roles having had the benefit of observing how the group played throughout 2011 with an impartial, but critical eye, it was deemed that the midfield group needed a lot of work to improve their fitness and work rate. Over the pre-season, the group as a whole have done that, showing a strong desire & commitment to work hard on the track & in the gym, as well as learn some new structures introduced to make them more accountable to their positions. [span style="font-size:10pt">

With a good core of talented midfielders such as Boak, Broadbent, Hartlett, Brad Ebert, McCarthy & several others, this group has developed a strong bond over pre-season & work well together. When you look at all the great teams over...
Theres an ORFFL pre-season championship going on if you didnt know. Which you probably didnt, as I didnt bother to inform you. Very slack of me.

Its happening though, and most importantly, its happening right now! Join us over the break to see how your team is fairing in this weird and irrelevant competition.

<!--more-->

I say weird and irrelevant because just like the AFL pre-season comp, the ORFFL Challenged Cup draws on results from meaningless games and contains scoring that bears no resemblance to the real thing.

Because SuperCoach scores are unforthcoming as of yet, Ive used DT/100 mins as a basis, and because no ones bothered to schedule matches or pick sides, coaches will be getting the points for every player that gets on the park.

Just like the "real thing", Ill be more than willing to introduce new rules/scoring systems for other proceeding rounds. And Ill update the scoreboard when I get R2 scores.

Spurs v Man United

Giggs scored a last-minute winner against Norwich on his 900th Man United appearance. By SAF’s account they didn’t deserve the win, but win they did. It’s a habit that United have mastered. They now have another difficult game to overcome before a decent run of games and a win here will keep the pressure on City as we approach squeaky-bum time.

Spurs got trounced 5-2 last week at Arsenal and will be a bit short of confidence, they also took a comprehensive beating at Old Trafford at the start of the season. Parker and Adebayor were missing then and Parker will be missing this week after his red card at the Emirates. Bale, Walker and VDV are all slight doubts. Smalling is doubtful for United.

WBA v Chelsea

Chelsea – with Lampard restored after dropping to the bench for two – earned three welcome points and goals against Bolton last week. They remain level on points with Arsenal in fourth place. A trip to The Hawthorns against a West Brom side with their tails up after nine goals in two might prove a little harder.

Odemwingie has scored five of them as he shows form that has earned him the player of the month award.

Long, Cox sat on the bench as did Dorrans. Morrison continues to show form and scored as did Andrews.

*Possibly feeling bold after playing well and scoring last week, Lampard came out in the media and said that his relationship with AVB has “not been ideal”. He added “There have been certain issues. Certain players we don’t like not to play.”

I’m far from convinced that these comments will guarantee him more game time.

Terry and Bosingwa remain out while Sturridge should be fit. Brunt may be back for West Brom.

Liverpool v Arsenal

Agger is out for about three weeks while...
Lets get some of this chat going on! Got the Suns up against the Cats tonight. Im expecting a good close match, with plenty of GEELONG DOMINATING.
2 in 1 may be the way to go from here on in... starting to become a habit anyway.

Theres been a lot of NBL games on lately and a heap to come too - we had 7 games last round, and there will be 6 this weekend. I went to the Cairns v Perth game the other day and it was so great to see the Snakes get up and win - It will hopefully give a lot of other teams up near the top some confidence that they too can win in Perth.

This week coming, there are three teams - Sydney, Melbourne, Gold Coast - that play twice; and no teams that miss out on a game. But something to keep in mind is that the Tigers have the weekend off next week.

Over the break are the recent results of our fantasy league and this weeks fixture::::

Now, Ive been thinking a bit recently - As far as premiums are concerned, were not going to learn too much about them over the NAB to decide on their upcoming seasons - I mean, the buggers get rested a bit, or played out of position to give the kids a bit.

However, its a super important part of selecting your team, just as important as picking the right rookie.

In fact, any premium that you start the season with, that drops a good $150k, will offset any good work youve done in selecting your rookies. This is particularly important over the first 8-12 weeks when the upgrade period is going on!

So Im thinking, lets take this to the power of the thumbs and use the comments here to work out what people are thinking.

Ill get us started with a couple (maybe slip a contentious one in there ;) ), and you guys jump in with more.
