TooSerious
For those who take it way too seriously
Well, technically its the 10th now, but I started writing it yesterday!
Anyways, we have another week under our pre-season belts and a few more teams have hit the tracks! The early bolter thus far is Matthew Bate, priced at roughly $290k as a forward, a predicted move to the midfield could see him push his average up past its previous heights of mid 70s. (Not perfect, but an 85 average would see him as a top 30 forward, which aint too shabby when paying for a 58.)
Anyways, the full report is over the break.

Adelaide
9/11
Ben Rutten, Will Young, Ian Callinan, Richard Tambling, Graham Johncock, Chris Knights, Kurt Tippett and Daniel Tarlia were all in the restricted group, doing handball drills and agility/aerobic work.
There were two groups who ran a pair of 1k time trials, Van Berlo and Sam Shaw (Or Martyn) both took out the first two, while Taylor Walker lead out the second group, beating out Scott Thompson. McKernan, who had ankle surgery in the off-season stuggled to run out the distance.
Porplyzia was lively, so it will be interesting to see how he is priced. They could make him very difficult for us to refuse!
Brisbane
9/11
"Likely rookie" Richie Newell just 1 second off Harts club 3k record.
Big Jon Brown looks in roaring shape.
Drummond has had hip surgury in the off-season, so once again- put his cue in the rack early.
Newell, McKeever and Stiller were top 3 in the 3k run.
Carlton
9/11
"Pain is good for you" is the philosophy that Carlton is apparently adopting out at Qatar. I dunno, it didnt work for the Dockers last year- and certainly hasnt for the Tigers fans over the last 20 years...
On the plus side, it looks like Kreuzer has headed out to Abu Dhabi.
Interestingly (Though if you remember last week, the competition isnt huge), Bower has been the best-performed athlete at Qatar.

Fulham v Spurs
I was dreading this game after laying myself bare last week regarding VDV. It was either a case of sucking up all the laughter, derision and outright ridicule coming my way or doing something about it and acquiring myself a little VDV voodoo doll. Im not going to lie to you folks, when I first saw the score and that Spurs scored three I started sweating like a glass-blowers arse, my heart sank and I immediately thought "VDV hat-trick". As it happened, I neednt have worried as the main man had a quiet game and remained goal-less for the first time in six games. My man Bale thankfully continued his excellent form by scoring one and assisting Lennon who scored a peach of a goal.
Defoe who came on for VDV after 66mins finished the scoring right at the death. Friedel was in inspired form for Spurs as they took a second half battering. A Kaboul OG was Fulhams only goal but theyll feel hard done by to come away without any points.
The fixture list could hardly be any kinder to Spurs with Redknapp unfortunately out of action for five weeks with heart problems. A free week followed by Villa, WBA (a), and Bolton - right enough Harry does have quite big shoes to fill!<!--more-->
Man United v Sunderland
Rooney is another player that I questioned a few weeks back whether he might be in for a dry spell. Four games on and hes not scored another league goal, thats now six league games without a goal (he has scored three goals in the UCL in two games but that was against a Romanian pub team and two of them were penalties). He has only played central midfield in one of those league games, in the others hes been involved in the play without really looking threatening. There were a couple of times in Saturdays game when he was picking the ball up deep in his own half. Hes not going to do any damage there and hopefully SAF will have him back up-front soon.
Wes Brown was the goal scorer in this game that got the conspiracy theorists tongues wagging....

For those that dont know, there have been a few Too Serious Fantasy NFL leagues happening this season. Stowie and Wiggles have been the main instigators of them and its the 2nd year of such leagues.
Last season I did not make the cut and was 1st emergency, but I still enjoyed reading the weekly writeups that Wiggles was kind to provide. Although, unfortunately, this season there have not been any as yet - well not on the main page anyway. But now there is...
Stowie has written a piece updating the progress of league 1 which you will find over the break.
<!--more-->
It has taken 8 weeks, but finally time for a quick update from a League 1 perspective.
Dominating the League, and ‘Walsey’ conference, is Adelaide Maggotz (7 – 1). Led by #1 scorer so far Aaron Rodgers, the Maggotz have been one of the more stable rosters so far with only 8 acquisitions so far.
Following in the ‘Walesy’ conference are Unleashed and Hellbound (4 – 3 – 1), Team Wiggles (4 – 4), Under Achievers (3 – 5) and
Ocho Cinco (2 – 5 – 1).
In the ‘Lucas’ conference, Team Stowie (6 – 2) sits a top led by #1 overall draft pick Adrian Peterson. Vick’s Dog Fighters (4 – 4)
are second and Dizzy Diamonds, Show Me Ya TD’s and TooSerious are all fighting for 2nd with 3 – 5 records.
Both conferences are extremely close and the race for playoff berths will be quite intense, maybe the draw will come in handy for Unleashed or Ocho… or maybe it’ll cost them!
If anyone from L2 or L3 would like to contribute, post it below and we’ll get it added to the top.

Just a quick one this week. We have completed 4 rounds of the NBL now, and Parasite is still the front runner in our league. He is ranked 16th overall; Stowie has jumped up to be ranked 2nd on our Points For ladder and is in the top 100 overall; while UnderAchievers is our next best with an overall rank of 115. Not too shabby gentleman. Well done! Lets hope one of us can pull off the big prize.
Over the break are all the usual results and ladder etc.

Looks like weve had a number of teams kick off their pre-season training, so its time to dust off the ol clipboard and start scouting around the training reports to see if we cant dig up a little fantasy gold.
Of course, being the first update, info is fairly scant, but hey- its good to work ourselves into the pre-season!
Ill be looking to get these posts up at least weekly, concatenating just about everything in the weekly newsletter, so that come the NAB, youll have a great resource to draw upon for all your pre-season news.
<!--more-->
That said- try to follow along each week, while cramming at the end can definitely work, building up a solid basis of knowledge over the pre-season will definitely give you a better understanding on what has made a good pick a good pick, and why certain rookies will get great value next year when they do finally get a game. (ie- We all knew that Puopolo and I. Smith would be great value last year, when they finally got games and thus dynamically left room in my team to trade down into them, knowing that they would get games.) It also helps you to avoid trading into hype-ish players, like Siposs last year. I know a number of coaches that picked him up simply because they had to downgrade a forward, rather than picking up (the albeit injured) Mzungu, knowing that hed do well. Last year you could kinda get away with it, but if we go back to a 2 man bench, then a solid understanding of how the pre-season went down, will certainly help you out through the year.
Enough rambling however, on with the show!

Chelsea v Arsenal
RVP has now scored 28 goals in 27 games for Arsenal this year after his hat-trick at the bridge. Walcott scored a contender for goal of the season and Santos also got on the scoresheet. Lampard, Terry and Mata scored Chelseas goals. It was a game dominated by defensive mistakes. Chelsea now havent had a clean sheet since the first game of the season.
Mertesacker was at fault for Chelseas first two goals but there were far more positives than negatives for Arsenal. Eighth win in nine. RVP top scorer in EPL now with 10 goals. Outstanding game from Ramsey. Walcott excellent in patches. Vermaelen came on for the last five minutes after injury. Arsenals next give games read like this - WBA, Norwich (a), Fulham, Wigan (a), Everton. RVP, Gervinho, Walcott and possibly Ramsey & Arteta are all capable of scoring big over the next few weeks.<!--more-->
Everton v Man United
Massive news for United as Vidic was back for this one and he played a huge part in United gaining a much-needed clean-sheet after losing six goals last week. Rio was dropped while Smalling and Young were injured, with Young possibly back next week. Hernandez scored the vital goal from Evras cross. Cahill and Drenthe were both missing for Everton. Cleverley started and showed some nice touches before being substituted. Sunderland at Old Trafford next week kicks off a juicy run of games for United that should help get last weeks result out of their system(Newcastle @ OT is the hardest). Rooney has now gone five league games without scoring.
Man City v Wolves
City remain unbeaten with nine wins from ten. Nasri, Silva and Dzeko all started this one with Clichy dropping out for Kolarov. Hennessey was inspired for Wolves early on before making a critical error in the second half when he was too slow in clearing the ball. Aguero closed him down and the ball ricocheted to Dzeko to give him a simple tap-in. The result was never in doubt from here on in with Kolarov and...

OK, Im not putting it up here because Im sure afl.com.au have it covered.
BUT, lets get commenting. Of course, cue the complaints that the Pies have an easy draw. Again. They only play one team that finished ahead of them in season 2011, and even then only twice and more scandalously both times at their home ground!

Weve just completed round 3 of the NBL season, and we have a new leader on the points for ladder, with Parasite moving ahead of UnderAchievers and into 12th spot overall, while UAs has slipped to 70th overall.
After getting the lowest score in the league last week, my team finished with the highest score in the league for round 3
, ranking 29th oa for the round. I hope they can keep it going now.
Three rounds in, there are four teams with two Ws, and four that are yet to find one. The ladder will be over ther break later.
Things are still not looking good for the NBA, with more games due to be cancelled. Now it looks like we wont see any NBA action untill at least December, but probably January.

Hi all,
NAB Cup draw is out. Looks to be a great preparation for the West Coast Eagles. Stuff all travel, so youd think they would be the favourites to win the thing. Its been a fairly good omen for a top 4 finish in the past few years, with Cats winning the double in 2009.
Thankfully this format will enable all matches to be tracked and for those with Foxtel, coverage will be complete.
Round 1 is the half games we experienced this year (6x3), Round 2 and 3 are 9 pre-scheduled matches, and the top 2 teams get to play off in the final, where others get to scratch around their 4th match.

As said before lock in the Eagles as a finalist. If I were making another tip, Id say Hawthorn. Geelong if they pass week 1 with 2 wins will be a certainty to play the final.

Just quickly, I finally got around to updating those EPL salaries- so yall can quit asking me when they are gunna be happening again!!
Seriously need to program some more automation into that thing, take out the "Walesy is on holiday" factor!
