TooSerious
For those who take it way too seriously
Perma-captain? No such thing it would seem. Everyone’s favourite choice for that role this season has been Swan. However, Swan is playing injured. He hasn’t cracked the ton for the last three weeks and has only averaged 88 in those games.
I started running some numbers for this week and I was extremely unimpressed by all of them. So I started to run some more – hence this is a bumper edition of possible choices. Based on the numbers, only one player seemed to stand out – and that player is …

Average is 142 SuperCoach points with 32 disposals.
Note: Unbelievable recent record against the Eagles – 157 SuperCoach points over the last three games. However, is he on everyone’s team (perhaps he will be traded in after seeing these numbers) and how will he go when he doesn’t have his Geelong team mates backing him up?? Lots of question marks but it is hard to argue with the numbers.

Got a nice piece here written by one of the regulars, GaryReal- its a cute post that made me smile, but also, a good chance for people to vent! I know until this week, I was going backwards, but a good week or two can do wonders! So, have a read- then let us hear it- your best laid plans, laying in ruin? or just lulling into a false sense of security?

This article isnt for the people in the top 1000, because most of you are probably a) GNR rollers, b) have 75% of the same team as everyone else in the top 1000, and c) have patted yourself on the back a few weekends running by now...
No, this article is for the people in 2000th place, or 4000th, or maybe 10,000th, even 25,000th, or more sadly, 40,000th...(lets face it, if youre 100,000th you must be playing for the first time or keep forgetting to make trades...and if youre 200,000th you must a) have never heard of TooSerious, and b) think James Hird is still playing off the Half forward Flank).
Thats right folks, this is an article for those stuck in the quagmire of their own football savvy. Im talking about the depressed band of frustrated tragics who have spent a whole lot of time counting numbers and making plans and thinking up clever combos, and lo-and-behold ten weeks in find themselves defeated by the intangible and seemingly surprising wicked turn of events, as decreed by the Footy Gods.
One good week gets our juices up, we make some great looking double trade for someone like Chappy Rash, who proceeds to average 70pts thereafter...and the next week a cataclysmic sequence of patheticness befalls our team structure such that our bench scores 100 and our fieldmen get subbed off after 10mins.
Im talking about those who spend 3 days reading DreamTeam Captains Wordout and Jasmines Captain Callout, think hard about whether Dane Swan is slightly injured, and then slap a big C on the wrong guy all the bloody time!
The same person who saw Petrie score 40pts (on the field)...

OK this week I will steer clear of many debates only to say, generally in these team building rounds an approach of "one up-one down" is a good one. Â And one down so you can go two up is at times one that you should take - but only in special circumstances.
No I havent ditched Sandilands last week, and Im unlikely to this week, but if I hear even a whiff of doubt about his injury next week he is gone. Â And its simply because I want some extra cash to complete my team. Â End of story.
Now over the break I wont discuss anything but the best value buys, fresh meat, the best PODs and the All-Australians...(LOL)
<!--more-->
Best Value Buys
DEF: My list looks ugly here. Â Theres Heppell (who most have), Enright (who has spudded recently), Newman (a bye this week), Suckling (still not liked by many) and Gibbs (owned and hated on by many). Â So maybe you are better off getting one of the three consistent guns this year in defence: Shaw, Fisher and Scotland. Â Of these if making the trade now Id go Scotland. Â But if you can hold out until after the bye for the Pies/Saints, then do so. Â Stanley has provided handy backup recently.
MID: Again it looks ugly. Â Swan is there but obviously hampered. Â I wouldnt rush to get him yet if you dont have him already. Â Bartel is back in the value, but thats because hes been smashed by Selwood recently (something I predicted at start of year). Â So Id look down a bit further to Mitchell and Swallow (slightly midrange), to Pendlebury and S Thompson (this years elite).
FWD: Cyril and Fyfe are topping the value lists, but both are risky prospects for those who are prospective holders, as most would have Pavlich and Franklin and you dont want too many from one team as byes come in and injuries take over later in the season. Â Therefore I like the look of Chapman (at the price) regardless of his current form (class is permanent), and Steve Johnson (who has benefited more than Varcoe from GAJs...

So, here we are, one week into the Combined Cars Challenge- and the current leader is none other than Here for Beer, with a fairly massive 2448- Helped by the backline duo of Duffield and Broughton, Murphy and Hodge in the middle, Zac Smith covering for Mumford in the rucks and Robbie Grays very nice 132 up forward, Here for Beer managed to take out the first round by more than 100 points!
I gotta say, Im pretty happy to see that I made the top 10- though considering I went from 2800 to 970 in the overall this week, thats not too suprising!
Now, before I get to the totals, I just want to mention to the 14 teams that havent got their scores in- please double check your team details! If you can let me know when your team is uploading fine, before Friday, Ill get you pulled into the ladder proper!
Over the break we have the top 10 so far!

Ten rounds in, and this years brownlow count is fast becoming a two-horse race. Â Well - three, if you can count Watson in the pits.
There are others that are there-and-abouts at this point in time, but you do get a distinct feeling that its gonna come down to one of these 2 (or 3). Â The bookmakers agree, with Judd now the out and out favourite ($4), and both Selwood and Watson equal second ($8).
This weeks votes are over the page....but before we get there, a note on the Pies v Eagles game. Â Dale Thomas was best afield - hands down, even though Pendlebury wasnt too far behind. Â And even whilst I think the umps will probably also go for Thomas over Pendlebury for the three, I have gone the other way.
Reason being - the aim is not ultimately to select who will get the votes on a week to week basis. Â Its about who will be at the top of the teams tree come late September. Â Pendlebury is one of those players that will pick up votes when you least expect him too at some stage through the year, whilst Daisy will miss out on another occasion where we have him down to collect - we know this from past counts.
To further my point...whilst I have gone with the three for Pendlebury, against the two of the TS masses, my count still sees Pendlebury one vote behind...

Hey guys a little late but better late then never
The English Premier League rapped up last weekend(after 9 quick months), Champions League final on the weekend with Barcalona proving how good they are and especially Lionel Messi. and now the playoffs are over with Swansea clinching the last premier league spot for next year. We are just about to hit June and the season gets underway in 2 and a half months, yes how bout that for an off season, with the Charity Shield being played between Manchester United (champions) and Manchester City (FA Cup winners) on the 7th of August. Blackpool all though relegated COULD be in the Europa league next season based on fair play results LOL. Birmingham who are relegated will compete in the Europa for winning the League Cup as well as Stoke for being FA cup finalists.

Anyway the premier league season in review
Manchester United secured there 12th English Premier League title and 19th top flight title to go outright first for the most top flight English titles 1 more then Liverpool (18). This season will go down as one of the title chases where no one really wanted to win it(teams dropping points they really shouldnt), however Manchester United by their own admissions will admit this season wasnt one of their best but they did enough to get the job done, essesntially sealing the title 2 weeks out with a 2-0 over Chelsea. Chelsea(2nd) finished 2nd a further 9 points and thus seeing their manager Carlo Ancielotti sacked 1 hour after there loss to Everton on the final day. Chelsea started off the season on fire and all the experts saying the title is over winning their first 6 matches with a goal difference of 20+, however their mid season form was dreadful and at one stage it looked like the wouldnt even finish in the top 4!!! Chelsea got desperate and splashed out 50 mill pound on an injury prone Fernando Torres and even after the signing they improved Torres only managed to score 1 goal in his Campaign...

Hi all,
Just a quick update on the 10 votes for the TooSerious Rising Star. Â This week, no surprises as Tom Lynch from the Gold Coast takes his place among the nominees.
Not a surprise given this wrap up from the days before he was drafted:
Tom Lynch, a raw 196cm forward from Sorrento who played TAC Cup for Dandenong Stingrays, shines on Gold Coast recruiter Scott Claytons radar. Â Stingrays coach Graeme Yeats said the similarities between Riewoldt and Lynch were remarkable. Â "If you put Tom Lynch next to Nick Riewoldt and you didnt know who they were, youd say, Gee whiz, theyre similar," Yeats said.
No wonder he was on our radars. Â And lets hope he can keep showing his undoubted promise up the front for GC in the next few weeks and become a handy little upgrade cow. Â Moo!
10 - Tom Lynch
9 - Guerra
8 - Puopolo
7 - Newton
6 - Z Smith
5 - D Thomas
4 - B Jacobs
3 - M Wright
2 - Birchall
1 - Buckley
Bringing the overall votes to:
23 - M Wright*
21 - Z Smith*
19 - Curnow*, L Thompson*, Liberatore*
17 - Harris, Puopolo
16 - Lower, Petrie
14 - Heppell, Nahas*
12 - Darling, Duigan
10 - Matera, Hibberd*, Lynch*
Next week is going to be interesting. Â If players get their averages...Puopolo, Lynch and Hibberd have a real chance to make ground on the leaders, or indeed take it. Â Bailey, Vardy, Smith, McCarthy, Delaney, Watson, Evans and Green on the bubble.
Personally Id be really happy if Zac Smith takes the lead in this. Â His performance carrying not just the Gold Coast but the Supercoach ruck in the past week has been epic.

With the NBA finals about to begin, I thought it was about time I got this post done and dusted (almost a couple of months late), especially as it will give us a thread to chat about the finals. The comments should stay open until game 6, so if it goes to 7 Ill have to get a new thread going for that game...
For those of you that don’t know, during the footy off-season, we had a Too Serious fantasy NBA league on the ESPN site. We had 20 teams in it – all TS members – and there were only 2 that didn’t really join in the fun. Out of the remaining 18 teams, we were all pretty keen and competitive for the most part – about 3 or 4 coaches went MIA at various times throughout the season – but all in all, it was fantastic how everyone contributed throughout the season. Way back in August, we began organising the league, setting up scoring, rules etc, and we had our draft on September 30th where all but one of the 20 teams were represented live! FWIW Danny10 won first pick and chose LeBron James. We all got to play each other once during our regular season, and then had playoffs involving the top 8 teams. A very very belated congratulations needs to go to Dabombers and his team – Wade Machine – for his grand final win, and it needs to be noted that he only just snuck into the top 8 after a sudden death round 19 win over Chriss88 and Smitty (Co-owners of ‘Do Something Knicks’). DaBombers (or Dan as we knew him... but Ill use his regular user name throughout this writeup) went with the bold strategy of acquiring - either from FA’s or trades – injured players that others didn’t want, hoping that they would be right by the time the playoffs rolled around, and his plan paid dividends, as he stormed through the playoffs winning all 3 games by at least 133, and finishing the season on a 5 game winning streak! Well done mate. Congratulations!
So, in the real stuff, we’re down to Miami and Dallas fighting it out for the championship over the...

We had a fairly good week this round, scoring 2124 and jumping up more than 1000 places to 3277th overall.
We made some good and not-so-good decisions this week. Our trades look to be gooduns: Tapscott to Mzungu, and Polec to Ablett. Our decision to leave Sandi alone for a week paid off, with Zach Smith doing well against an undermanned Cats ruck division. But Lucas tweeted me to say that there are "no excuses tolerated" for not trading Sandi this week, and I agree... not sure if we can count on Smith to play well against the Eagles.
Although we had mixed results with bench selections... Prestia (16) and Matera (28) were good choices on the forward line bench, and Puopolo (96) starting was an inspired choice; however Jacobs (66) outscored Duigan (34) in defense, Mzungu (77) outscored Darling (47) and Harris (31), and the latter was also outscored by Iles (66) who was on the pine in the mids.
Our captain was Selwood, who was our 3rd best scorer, so gotta be happy with that. Will be interesting to see who we choose this week with GC playing the Weagles. Not sure if the big Cox should be as automatic as Selwood was for us. And we now have the old permacaptain in our ranks, so maybe we gotta get back on him for old times sake...
Come over the break to see the individual scores of our players for round 10:::::::<!--more-->
