TooSerious

For those who take it way too seriously

Its fantastic reading all the comments in the <a href="http://tooserious.net/cards-on-the-table" target="_blank">Cards on the table post... especially that so many people have donated as a result of it.

Another benefit entitled to donors here at Too Serious, is that they/we can take part in the decision making for our TS Donor Supercoach team - UCantBeTooSerious.

Every week, over in the Donor Forum, we discuss tactics and options regarding our team, and we vote on almost every decision that needs to be made for it. I say almost, and it really is pretty much everything...   even picking a 3rd emergency from players who arent even playing, lol...  (FWIW Toy won the vote, haha)

I cant speak for everyone, but for me - its been a heap of fun so far, and really interesting too. Weve had a bit of an up and down season, being ranked as high as 1,293rd after round 4, and as low as 7,928th after round 1. Even after round 6, we had drifted out to be ranked 6,189th - but have clawed that back now and are currently ranked 3,881st. Our highest score so far was 2,391 in round 4, and our lowest was 1,861 in round 6.

We have completed 6 trades so far - 1 in round 3; 2 in round 6; 1 in round 7; and 2 last week. So we still have 18 trades left - and I cant wait to see what we decide to do with them...  and even more than that, i look forward to working them out together over the coming weeks/months.

In round 8, we scored 2101, for a weekly ranking of 27,198th - which isnt so good - but it was good enough for us to move up 898 positions overall.

Our trades last week were: Grimes to Shaw; and Curnow to Jacobs (who we MPPd to the backline to cover a zero) - Both look fairly good decisions so far.

We won 3 of our league games, and are sitting 1st or 2nd in all 3 of those leagues; and in the top 8 in the other two. An interesting point of note is that the league we are sitting in 1st place, actually is the best ranked league as well - TooSerious Donors...
Alright guys, weve fast reached a place where the running and maintenance and well, popularity, of this place is making itself incompatible with holding down a full time job- which means I need to bite the bullet and try to make a living off this place or yanno, seriously consider walking away.

Ive really loved developing this place, growing it and spending time here and I hope you guys have been enjoying it too. Because this is a place that has grown because of you guys and for you guys, I dont want to give you the impression that Im just grabbing for the cash or gouging but, like Ive said many times, servers dont pay for themselves and unfortuantely, contrary to popular rumour, we dont actually have 9 houses and need to be able to feed the kids and pay the mortgage. Shocking. I know.

Read the rest of this heart-felt appeal- and a new competition- over the break.

So, up until now, TooSerious has been a labour of love but Id love to be able to have the freedom to dedicate more time to the place and really realise its potential but I need your help to get there. I really dont want to walk away or let the place fall into disrepair cause hey, Im quite excited about maybe having the opportunity to make TooSerious even better. Ive got a whole bunch of ideas on improvements Id love to add and a list as long as my arm of fixes and tweaks that would add at least 40% more awesome to the joint and Id love to have the time to get them in.

To this end, over the next couple of days, youll probably notice some new ad spaces popping up over the site. Yep- Ill be cramming them in where-ever I can fit em! :p Now, before I go on, I just feel the need to say- a part of me hurts to be "selling out", but I reckon were hitting a good balance here.

So, firstly, were going to try to keep the sponsorships for the newsletter which, Im hoping, means well be offering you guys some great deals- and personally, I reckon the last one worked out pretty...

So, Ive been locked to the laptop this weekend, with strict instructions from Jo- Fix the damn speed issues- Theyre painful and nobody likes the feeling of getting lockout every damn week. Well, Im paraphrasing a little, Im pretty sure there were a few more f-bombs in there, but the idea comes across just as well when translated to a PG-13 audience. Anyways, the end result Im hoping should speed the site up a little during the non-peak hours, but should help out the servers significantly once the masses come in to get their trades on. Of course, with such changes is always the risk of me breaking stuff, so keep an eye out and let me know if anything sucks.

Now with that done, lets jump over the break and see what happened this week
<!--more-->

We kicked off the round with the match of the round and boy, did it live up to the hype! A hugely spirited contest which saw Geelong almost kick themselves out of the game, only to hold onto a slim 3 point victory. As Leigh Matthews once pointed out, if it bleeds- Which means the 2011 season is now officially open for business! The top scorer for the game was joel Selwood, whos 29 touches, 17 of which were contested, secured him a 153SC. Favored replacement for Grimes, Heath Shaw rewarded his coaches with a massive 149SC, and while Im talking Grimes replacements, he was a far cry from Enrights 68SC. StevieJ was the third highest scorer with a very nice 136SC, his recent midfield time has been a real boon to his scoring. Daisy picked up a 127SC while Joel Corey had a nice return to form with a lovely 122 off 33 touches. The biggest suprise package for the though was Simon Buckley, I know Jo was contemplating holding Grimes this week and playing Buckley, but his 52 average wasnt inspiring confidence, that said though, his return of 94 would have more that put a smile on her face. Outside of Enright, there were a few other disappointments, Chappy continued his poor post-bye behaviour with a 70SC, Dawes didnt do much...
Sure, its a bit late- but hey, the next round aint for a while.
<div>

With a fair break between Weeks 3 &amp; 4 lets hope we don’t forget about this come round 16 and sorry for getting the results up so late!!

The fight for the total points championship really hotted up last week and Tunas took full advantage of some horrible scores out there, jumping from a lazy 15th to 1st place with a impressive score of 2112. The top 12 places are separated by only 70 points but I would now say after Tunas performance that even those 100-150 points back aren’t out of it just yet.

Congratulations to the teams that made it into the final 4, I will endeavour to do a couple previews much closer to when these fixtures are set to be played.

So, a coded message from our resident captains expert has reveals that shes tracked the secret *wink wink* to Brussells and is hoping to have it extracted shortly has once again left it to me to delve through the depths of whos playing to figure out where the best value in captains lie this week.

I gotta say, its a toughy though, not for a lack of options, more so in narrowing down which of the many to choose from!

Swan v Geelong

Round 19, 2010: 131SC, 32 disposals
Round 9, 2010: 106SC, 25 disposals
Round 3, 2009: 116SC, 30 disposals
Round 9, 2008: 109SC, 29 disposals

Form: 124, Ave against Cats: 117

Notes: Classic Swan here, he racks up the disposals against Geelong and with that, scores decent scores- good enough for captain though?!

Pendlebury v Geelong

Round 19, 2010: 110SC, 24 disposals
Round 9, 2010: 96SC, 18 disposals
Round 3, 2009: 95SC, 25 disposals
Round 9, 2008: 141SC, 26 disposals

Form: 121, Ave against Cats: 100

Notes: While he has certainly stepped up again this year, he does look to have struggled against the Cats in recent times, though will the pink pig be up to the job again?

Chapman v Collingwood

Round 19, 2010: 99SC, 23 disposals
Round 9, 2010: 114SC, 29 disposals
Round 3, 2009: 160SC, 35 disposals

Form: 114, Ave against Pies: 124

Notes: His 160 was a huge game, and had he not had such a shocker last week, Id be telling you to lock him in, but the Chapster should definitely be in consideration this week.

Selwood v Collingwood

Round 19, 2010: 94SC, 23 disposals
Round 9, 2010: 83SC, 27 disposals
Round 3, 2009: 101SC, 26 disposals
Round 9, 2008: 68SC, 17 disposals

Form: 112

Notes: Wow, thats an ugly record! Id probably look elsewhere.

Watson v Brisbane

Round 21, 2010: 81SC, 17 disposals
Round 19, 2009: 111SC, 32 disposals
Round 6, 2009: 117SC, 36 disposals
Round 15, 2008: 117SC, 24...
With all the excitement of the last week or so, the Premiership Coach competition got pushed to the back burner a little bit. Not entirely a bad thing as it gave an opportunity for more of you guys to enter and answer the question:

Assuming the first 5 picks were: Selwood, Cooney, Ablett, Riewoldt and Swan- who would be your selection if you’ve got the 6th pick and why?

If we were running a game of Premiership Coach like the donor team, Buddy would have been the clear winner for 6th pick with 10 votes and three of our winners picking him for their team.

Without further ado, who were those winners?

So, the final teams are in, Liberatore, Conca and Puopolo all made the cut this week which is great news. :D

I was gunna put a live pre-lockout-last-minute chat up, but looking at the speed issues that lockout causes, I reckon it would just degrade into people lamenting the lag. :D

So, feel free to talk last minute trades in here- and join us in the live chat once the game starts! As a plus, its live on the telly- so it works out well! :D

Live chat is up and running <a href="http://tooserious.net/live_scores.php?page=gameday&id=10250369&process=live">here . Log in to join us!
Hey guys, I was gunna just chuck this in the wall, but found myself typing way too much!

Anyways, Ive found a bug which means that some of the teams in your league tracker might not have been grabbed- Ive got a busy day, so Im unlikely to be able to fix it today, so if you can, jump into your league and hit SAVE - This will grab the latest version of your league to track.

Also, if youre an eager beaver, you can do this shortly after lockout finishes to get your tracked teams before I run the process which goes and gets them. (Which I tend to do on a Tuesday night, but sometimes, that stretches out to Wednesday)

Cheers all!
Hey guys, welcome to the inaugural live teams chat. Well be (or yanno, you can too) posting up the teams, lamenting our outs, doing a bit of trade talk- and well, in general, clowning around- so if you want, login and join the fun! heck, crack open a stubbie or two if the mood takes you an enjoy- hopefully it all works out! :D If not, theres always tweaking!

Looks like weve got a few solid ins this week, but thats offset by a few outs, and a few non-ins. Higgins and Rioli as set to sit another week out.

Bewick will make a few coaches smile while the naming of Jacobs is fantastic! his D/M eligibility is a great thing to be trading down into if you can get it.

The biggest out for the week will have to be Harris, followed closely by Toy- heres hoping you dont have them coming in for Judd or Gibbs! :D

Anyways, the big ins and outs are:

INS: Bewick, S. Johnson, Jacobs, Suckling, Winmar (again!), Liberatore
OUTS: Stanton, Grimes, Pedersen, Toy, Harris, Montagna
Extended bench: Puopolo, Savage, Winmar, Liberatore, wallis, Conca, Gaff

Full teams over the break.
