TooSerious

For those who take it way too seriously

Looking around the grounds I see terrible score after terrible score- reckon youve done well this week if you break 2k! Its been a horrible shocking week in which premium after premium has just plain failed, failed badly!. That said, for the few lucky coaches that managed to avoid the Goodes, and Roos of the round, theres a lot of ground to be made up.

Full review over the break...

The SuperCoach massacre started innocuously enough on Thursday night with the Eagles playing host to the Demons, and boy- the Dees just didnt show up, falling 5 goals down in the opening term and finishing the game 9 down. Priddis top scored for the Eagles with a 142SC off 33 touches with Bix Cox securing 131SC of 23. Both options were good value as the captains loophole, and many coaches would have been locking them in Ebert got a very nice 116 while Butler (107) and Embley (101) also broke the ton. Darling is looking a magnificent pick up adding 100SC to his totals and kicking 3 majors, while Grimes top scored for the Dees with a 96. Plenty of dissapointments though, with Gaffs 12SC, Tapscotts 51SC and Green with 48SC hurting there coaches a bit.

So, roll around Friday night- the full lockout takes effect and the pain begins. Mumford top scored for the night with a 159SC off 12 touches and 43 hitouts. Judd scored a 154SC off 33 touches in a game winning performance- definitely good for the 3 brownlow votes here (and while mentioning the brownlow, dont forget to get you tips in before Holeys article! :D). A bit of a drop to Betts with the third highest score of 114SC with 4 goals and Murphy whos 25 touches made him 110SC- it did come at a cost though with a shoulder looking to have him out for 1-2 weeks. Could mean a donut for a few coaches. Kennedy rounds out the top5 with a solid 108 off 28 possessions. But after that, we start the bad news- Jacks injury saw him score a 70SC, but also saw OKeefe taking up the Judd tag, turning his early good form into a...
So, since Im doing well in the Sportbet fantasy comp, I figure I need to sit down and get serious about my trading. The first thing I noticed- Boy, its hard to trade without TooSerious on hand! No wonder its so damn popular, Ive gotten so used to using this site to play, Im finding it difficult to go back to a time where I didnt have it helping out.

The second thing I thought to myself, people that are new to these parts just wont know how powerful this tool is, and visualising, or putting together a trading plan could be a new thing.

(More over the break)

Firstly, I want to cover what make a good trade, well, a good one. For mine, there are 4 aspects to any good trade.

Extra points: This is probably the biggest of all reasons to trade. We trade to make our team better so that it can earn us extra points over the year- Points can be earned either through coverage of a missing player, or through upgrading a playing player to a better one- The second of which also costs $$. A good single trade should probably be earning you 300+ points over the year, 400 if youve done very well.

Freeing up cash: These trades tend to go hand in hand with the upgrade trades. When trading, it can be easier to think of a pair of trades as a single one, and do the figures based on that- for example, this week if I were to trade Krakouer down to a rookie, then Duigan up to Adcock, based on a more sustainable average of 100 for Adcock and a 75 average for Duigan, you get a 25ppg increase per game, over 18 games makes for a 450 increase, plus maybe 50 due to Duigans extra bye- however, over two trades, you can say that each trade has earned 250.

As an aside, that extra week worth of bye is really hampering the growth of our cows! So while the above set isnt "ideal", with extra trades- an early aggressive trade as mentioned above isnt as bad as it seems.

Generating cashflow: This can be viewed in two ways- its particularly important early in the season...
So, who used the Captains loophole to hook up Cox as their Vice last night? A 131, its gotta be a brave man to bet against it- heck, Ive put the C onto Sandi.

But hey, if youre a risk taker, or just didnt get onto Cox lets look around te grounds to see if we cant find something that works.

Just a quick post to remind you all that the chat is up and running over in the live scores[/url]. Feel free to drop in tonight and catch the game.

And if you play the Sportsbet comp, just remember, they dont have the same partial lockout that Supercoach and Dreamteam do.

Keep an eye out for the captains thread tonight and another one if I can find the time- and catch you all in the chat!
We copped two zeros in round 5, which helped us achieve our lowest score of the season so far - 1955 - which also saw us below 2000 for the first time.

We are now ranked 4949th, slipping 3656 places!

To make matters worse - we had Lowers 106 on the pine, with only 6 scoring defenders. That was because we wasted our emergency on Goddard - taking advantage of the partial lockout to see if he did any good; but Broughton missing as a late withdrawal threw that plan out of whack.

Over the break will be all players individual scores::::

Just a quick post for Rising Star. This week Tom Liberatore takes it out, but it was a close run thing, and considering it was his second improvement, its not always easy to succeed in these circumstances.

Indeed, now that we have largely got the "third game bubble" out of the majority of our players, we are starting to see experienced people who have got a real burst of form together in the Rising Star nominations for this week. They could still be decent value options worth considering so keep your eyes open.

As for a quick spiel on "Libba", well we all know his dad squeaked in to win the 1990 Brownlow Medal (probably due to Kolynuiks goal over Graham Wrights head that year...), and with Tony being one of the shortest players in recent times, its interesting to note that Tom has developed from the mothers side on that one (presumably). What cant be questioned though, is Tommys love of the hard ball. That, for sure, is a trait passed down directly from Father to Son. I can see Liberatore being a current real smoky for the AFL Rising Star. Sure, there are the sexy players like Heppell and Swallow getting rave reviews, along with Ed Curnow, but Liberatore has earned a starting 18 spot in a team which has the deepest midfield rotation in the competition, and must be considered.

As for those enquiring about Dyson Heppell, the young gun still misses votes but hes still got a juicy BE of 8, so he might be there this week. The great news on Heppell is he keeps producing.

Finally, a shout out to my backup ruckman for this week Drew Petrie. I do the Legacy thing and Raise a Glass to you old son. A performance for the ages against the Tigers.

4 - Nathan Fyfe

Alright, posts are coming thick and fast today- and heres StKilda Thundas results for the champions league. Gotta say, at least I got knocked out by the overall leader right now. :D

Week 2 saw some horrific scores thrown up and this was shown in our league average od 2089, which is 160 points less then week 1. But our overall league average is still a solid 2169.

In the total points competition there are 12 teams within 116 points of leader The Hornswagglers. If this week has shown anything its that 100 points isn’t that hard to make up during these multi bye weeks, especially this week with the train wreck that is Geelong, Hawthorn & Fremantle having the byes.

Match of the round this week looks set to be Green Jellybeans vs IPIKDA WONG PRAYER. Its 30th overall vs 208th and both look set to be hit hard with the byes.

Key Differences are looking like:

Swan, J.Riewoldt versus Sylvia, Fisher but will be interesting to see how they try and cover the 5+ players they are missing with the bye. Im slightly leaning towards Green Jellybeans, just due to the Swan factor.

Just a reminder that any draws will now be decided by:

The highest points scorer in the multi bye competition will go through.
If still tied after that then highest ranked team in official supercoach rankings will progress to next round.

When the going gets tough, the tough get going...

Its one of the mottos of my life, and so after what was a cataclysmic week for so many in Supercoach, its time for everyone to pick up their socks, dust off the dirt, wipe the blood from the face and get back into the ring for another bout.

What a shame we have to do it this week without Franklin, Rioli, Selwood, Bartel, Enright, Broughton, Pavlich and Sandilands. And others, but these guys will hurt enough.

This is where we need to look at the Best Buys for the round, to see if they can make any difference to whats going on. But first, an aside from me in assessing the current premium and elite players in the comp, on their form from their first 4 or 5 matches. What is clear, above all else, is that 600k is the new 700k, and that the bargain bazaar is going to be chock full each weekend. (Not that this is a surprise to many TooSerious readers. As the Gold Coast entered the fray, we all knew, quick rookie appreciation in the bubble round - after their 3rd game - then slower from there, and that premiums would fall rapidly. All due to the total player payments pool. Walesy can regale us on this if so required.)

And therefore, if 600k is the new 700k, then 450 could be the new 500. Im not sure if anyone else noticed that Gibbs (some piss-poor recent games, granted) has averaged 100 for the year, but is now under 450. I wont say thats unheard of, but a small blip in form can cause huge ripples in player value.

My thought on 450 then, following the logic, is thats gettable with two 300s. Maybe even gettable with a 300 and a 250. And that means think about getting on board the train headed for upgrade central this round. A one-line comment on all current elite and premiums follows after the break, along with a quick assessment on all the players who I tipped to be premium this year who arent at the mark. Finally, Ill try to hit the best...
Teams post is up before the brownlow predictions from the previous round...what a short week.

Everyone will have their mind on who theyre trading by now, so will keep it short and sharp.

One quick thing to note though - and it may help your SuperCoach team (for 2012...), but players who poll well in their first year or so off of low SuperCoach averages, tend to be a good guide for who will improve from a SuperCoach perspective for the following year. Both Fyfe and Martin polled in 7 games between them last year (not bad for your first year), from SuperCoach averages in the mid 70s. This year both have ignored the second year blues and have already become SuperCoach guns.
