For those who take it way too seriously

Looks like the Herald Sun have posted up all the SuperCoach scores over the entire NAB cup and challenge.

You can access the full list of things <a href="http://media.heraldsun.com.au/dbs/2011_preseason_formguide/search.html">here

As lucas said over on the wall, a quick look at this makes me think that a lot of people will be jumping on Cotchin, Boak and Rockliff- Particularly Boak with his late bye! They do look good value though, but can they sustain it in the season proper?
<!--more-->

Goodes, Grimes, Buddy and Pendlebury have shown why they are in a lot of teams. Its a shame that Murphy has missed the last two games with whatever is wrong with him, he was in great form and I reckon a number of coaches will still take the risk on him.

Schneider, Lower and Duigan led the way for the rookies, while Matera and Savage have both represented better than I thought they would. Savage I hear is a good chance to play this week- but with the Hawks fielding a near full lineup, how long could he stay in the team?

Kraks, Petrie and Vickery led the way for the 200k+ guys, which makes the mid-price ruck option very tantalising.

Now, before I show the partial lists, it looks like Superfooty have clarified sort of on twitter, apparently they arent showing SuperCoach scores live- so Im not sure what the relevence of new "live stats" and "Champion Data will track every player’s SuperCoach form during the match" in the same paragraph are- but I guess well find out in a couple of days!

If youre quick off the mark, you would have noticed the new leagues tab in the menu there.

We have snuck in an experimental new feature that will make easier a job that a number of you are already doing- keeping track of your leagues. This is a huge feature for those of you who, well, take their leagues too seriously.

Now, for it to work, youll need to ensure that youve filled in your details prior to the start of round 2, so with that base team, we can then track on a week to week basis what the other players in your league are up to. The kicker is, you cant actually fill in your details until after round 1, so its a pretty tight time limit for you to work in!

Now, as Ive said- its experimental and completely untested- so it comes with an it-is-what-it-is disclaimer, but with a little bit of luck, should be a nifty tool in your fantasy football arsenal.
With the start of the season ticking ever closer and since Ill be spending the rest of the arvo in the <a href="http://www.fantasyfooty.net.au/wa/home">TS fantasy footy draft , I thought I should post up a few reminders.

First cab off the rank, I guess, would be the TooSerious articles in the Herald Sun. Particularly for those of you who are a bit newer to Supercoach, these articles give a pretty solid base from which to structure and plan your team.

Now for the competitions. There are some pretty awesome prizes on offer and with all the football research youre doing anyways, you might as well throw your hat in the ring and try to win some of them.

You guys know the drill- Im not even going to give the latest of Terrys efforts an intro- Its awesome, enjoy. (Yes, I realise the irony of declaring the lack of an intro in the intro)

And just a quick link to all of Terrys other great works-

Fourth in the series. Gold Coast again predominant, but then it gets a bit thin after there. No, it gets very thin after you drop below the QLD border. Really warming to the Lucas plan of going for premiums in MID and searching greener pastures for cows. Looking over the list you would have to suggest most will get game time this year. Some names that have popped up in forums have been eliminated as analysis suggests they will be hard put to get a run this year.

Of side interest, Fremantle have 3 MIDs under 200k who have been in the system for a while now and currently look like being bypassed by younger talent, seemingly destined to be journeymen in the WAFL (Schammer, Hinkley, Bollenhagen). Have not found 3 such cases in one position at any other clubs. Perhaps they are remnants from when Freo made some poor recruiting choices?

Getting a gig in the midfield also seems to be harder than any other position. As most clubs put their best into the middle, you need that star aura to have any chance of replacing them. Also many have to serve an apprenticeship in other positions before they are considered for MID.

Detailed information also harder to find for these rookies so have fallen back a bit on the Wikki, which at least adds a little background meat. Bold indicates R1. Any MIDs who are also listed as FWD or DEF have been reviewed in previous posts. Can some of these high priced rookies drop in value if they only get limited TOG?

The third in the series in which Terry examines the Defender rookies that have been kicking around in all our minds. For mine, defence has the most rookies that I believe will perform well early this year. Also, just want to give a huge shout out to Terry for doing this! Its a fantastic read and I know that Ive been pretty run off my feet this last week! :D

Third in the series. Gold Coast predominate here, but you need to be a good judge to determine who will start R2. As with the forward rookies, players most likely to start R1 are highlighted in bold. Many coaches will have a mix of GC and Heppell (unless you start him as a MID), with Puopolo and Duigan the likely choices after that. Depending on how many DEF rookies you decide on, there are still some good prospects after these more obvious ones.

Defence is a paddock rich in grass this year, although there are more dual position prospects amongst the FWD rookies than DEF.

Adelaide

Brodie Smith 123,600
Hard to get a fix on Smith given limited glimpses from NAB. Likely to play this year but perhaps not R1 (watch for injuries).

Andy Otten 185,100
Flagged as a certainty and a bargain, Otten’s NAB performances have been at times subdued. Does he need time to regain confidence? Will be in a lot of teams, but perhaps consider value elsewhere first.

Brisbane

Ryan Lestor 103,600
Been given a run as a FWD in the NAB and, while slipping under the radar, has probably done enough for a start. Good smokie.

Carlton

Nicholas Duigan 103,600
Good enough NAB and will now be in 80% of teams. Should get 10-12 games this year and should be ahead of Dare in the pecking order. Watch out for the return of other DEF such as Bower.

Collingwood

Simon Buckley [MID] 110,200
Impressive NAB has created some restlessness amongst coaches. Can he get a start in this outfit though? Suggest wait and see.

Essendon

Michael Hibberd [MID] 103,600
Hibberd or Heppell,...
Seems that an over-zealous construction worker cut our phone line yesterday and delayed the release this installment from Terry in Bangkok for a bit, but Im back now, and with 7 days to go, will get his articles up with a bit of rapid-fire action! So without further ado:

Okay, here is the promised second installment and with this one it gets a bit harder. There are many choices who will get game time, but would not be considered for most teams. Thus the choices become subjective and are really a matter of personal opinion. Robin Nahas is a good player, butwill not be seriously considered for a lot of teams or be on a lot of watchlists. Why forward options in this price range are even considered is because there is a dearth of premiums and an ever decreasing list of rookie options. Thus we start to cast our eyes a little higher than the rooks to see what is available. There are one or two in this list that will likely make it onto many SuperCoach teams.
Have been a bit liberal with the price range, it is really 170-300k, with Sam Day (178,600) already covered in the rookies. As per the rookie list, players in bold are those likely to get a R1 start (obviously the GC rookies and the Petrie Dish will start R2, but you know what we mean).

This list is also a bit more contentious than the rookies. Feel strongly about someone or disagree, then jump on.

Jack Gunston 190,700
Quiet NAB, but the coach seems keen to give him game time. Gotta love the name.

Chris Knights 237,500
Up and down, in and out, but you would have to say yes, the Crows have high hopes for Knights this season and so far he hasn’t let them down. Darling of the masses and should appreciate if he remains uninjured.

Taylor Walker 300,100
If the Crows have a good season, he is likely to play a major part in it. Most likely the go to man and will not be distracted by GC talk. Certainly an option but there is always that fear of being burnt by a...
Yes peoples, the thread youve all been waiting for! Rate. My. Team.

The reason that we dont do these threads earlier in the preseason is because of how much things can change as new news comes out.

Callinan and Mzungus injuries were a perfect example of that, while Riolis strange pre-season form is another.

But weve got just about all the info that were going to get now, so lets get to it!

firstly though, we have got a couple of rules:
<!--more-->

- The default team posted in the comments with be a supercoach squad, going for an overall win. If youre posting a DreamTeam team, or are going for a league win, mention that in your post as its critical to getting good advise.

- *please* stick to a readable format to your team. If its poorly formatted, or full of spelling errors, you can be certain it will be ignored in favour of reviewing teams that arent.

A good example of a well formatted post is below
Goddard, Gibbs, Deledio, Grimes, Adcock, Otten, Heppell, (Coad, Toy, Duigan)
Swan, Montagna, Boyd, Shuey, Swallow, Harris, (Atley, I. Smith, Hibberd)
Sandilands, Jolly, (Z. Smith, Keeffe)
N. Riewoldt, S. Johnson, Higgins, Jetta, Morton, Dangerfield, Krakouer, (Matera, Richardson, Darling)
Cash: $147,600

(and no, thats not my squad ;) )

- We all know the standard guys who are being picked, if youve got a few that are outside of that- and dont want you reviews to be based solely around getting rid of them, it might be a good idea to post your reasons for buying those players. Youll get better feedback, or possibly counter-arguements, if we know why youre selecting a certain smoke.

- Keep it civil people. Were all grown ups, and nothing here should be taken personally. If you find critism that you disagree with, then disagree- but if you cant argue your point without resorting to name calling, then posts will be deleted and the banhammer could be taken out from behind the 2011 "break in case of toolery" glass. This goes for the...
<a href="http://tooserious.net/wp-content/uploads/2011/03/magnificent_seven.jpg"><img class="alignleft size-medium wp-image-2650" src="http://tooserious.net/wp-content/uploads/2011/03/magnificent_seven-300x225.jpg" alt="The Magnificent Seven" width="300" height="225" />Winning and losing Supercoach is a matter of getting the best players on the ground more often.   It sounds obvious but its the truth.

The hard thing, and what makes the game interesting, is that you dont have unlimited money, or unlimited trades to get your best team together.

So therefore, you are left to use strategies to get your team maximised.  Some use Guns and Rookies (GNR), some use a midpriced combination, and many use a combination of these to fit in our special favourites.   Every team, no matter if its the reigning champion down to the novice must take risks in order to get the best team.   One of the places you could decide to take risks, particularly with a midpriced team, is to try to pick the underpriced players who will make a jump forward this year.   The examples from 2010 of these players were Barlow, A Swallow, Johncock, Simpson and Jack.

Anyone can pick the best premiums from year to year.  Generally the best players in the competition dont change much.   A few come in, a few come out, and the main block of star players remain the same.   In previous articles, Ive tried to outline some basic points about premiums (<a href="http://tooserious.net/premiums-the-initial-lowdown#more-2490" target="_blank">http://tooserious.net/premiums-the-initial-lowdown#more-2490) and who is going to be departing the 100 PPG group and who will be returning (<a href="http://tooserious.net/afl-supercoach-2011-premiums-100-ppg-out-and-premiums-returning#more-2548" target="_blank">http://tooserious.net/afl-supercoach-2011-premiums-100-ppg-out-and-premiums-returning#more-2548).   No one who is serious as a Supercoach player would have grave arguments against the...
Im sure everyone is aware of the tragic, tragic events that have been unfolding in Japan over the past week. But just in case Supercoach has completely taken over - have a look at <a href="http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-pacific-12711226" target="_blank">THIS SITE for the latest news. Really shocking devastation happening over there!

I know that we have people who visit this site from Japan, and others with connections to Japan. I hope that JJ and others are well, and that everyone with family and friends in Japan have been able to reach them and that all is ok with them.

Only a few days ago, I was reminding people of how to donate to TS, but today I received an email (via a mailing list Im on) from the Tokyo Goannas AFL Footy Club, and I want to put this up as well - They have set up an easy way to donate money to this really important cause.

Over the break I have pasted the email in for you all to have a look at. There are links in there to a spot where you can donate money. There are 4 set amounts that you can choose from, but they are all in yen... just so you know AUD$1 will buy you about 80 yen. Therefore 500y = $6.25; 1000y = $12.50; 5000y = $62.45; and 10000y = $124.89.

<blockquote>TOKYO GOANNAS AFL Team Earthquake Appeal

We have established an easy way to donate to the JAPAN EARTHQUAKE APPEAL. Please follow this link and The Goannas thank you in advance: **** EDIT **** There is a new URL - see 2nd comment for details *****

Dear all,

It is at this sad time that I write to you. As you will almost certainly know by now, Japan has been dealt a savage blow with the 9.0 earthquake that hit last Friday afternoon. The devastation and heartache to come from this will continue in the days, weeks, months and years ahead. The rebuilding will be of monumental proportions and only with the help and understanding of the worldwide community will things slowly return to normal....
Our friend from Bangkok, Terry, has been hard at work putting together a series of articles, detailing the current fortunes and chances of all the rookies that weve been watching over the pre-season. We all have about a week to go to select the best of these, so Im thinking the articles will be coming out pretty rapid-fire. Take a look, what do you agree with- or more importantly, what do you disagree with?

With injuries to a number of key forward rookie prospects, have run the tape over the rest of the field to see what options remain and hopefully help a few people in some of their choices. More background on individual players can be found in the Forum and Stats pages.

In addition to some research, this information has been cross-checked with Dr. DT, FF, as well as a team review in the Age. Forward rookies considered unlikely to get a run this season are not included, however, if you feel strongly enough about someone, add to the discussion below. Also, if you have any inside information on any of these prospects, please join in. The only cautionary note is that much can happen over the next 10 days (or 17 days for GC rookies). Over the duration of NAB, Prestia has gone from hot to warm – this may well happen to others as the rumours fly over the next few weeks. And in case you were wondering, Carlton, Collingwood and Essendon are light on for forward rookie prospects.

All players are below 200k, but there is also an interesting group just above that (190-300k) that may tempt you and I will try and review that group later if Walesy is up for it. In the meantime, 10 days to decide on the following (players most likely for R1 are in bold):
