So, its been a pretty big week in football. I think we learnt a lot this week about how the season is shaping up. Firstly, the Pies are officially a force to be reckoned with. Secondly, even though they lost, so are Fremantle. They put in a strong effort in a losing side, and really, considering the Pies current form, held their own for most of the game (They did let the game away early). Sydney are, sadly, not as strong as their initial form predicted. Melbourne, while still markedly improved on last year, are still young and inconsistant. Geelong are officially as force and Geelong V Collingwood is pencilled in for that last weekend in September. Still, its just May. Cant look too far ahead yet. Hawthorn, with all their big ins were lucky to get a win against the Tigers, but I still think that the hit out did them good and that theyll come out stronger for it next week. Carlton looked the part coming from behind against the Power, and with the Saints falling to the Dons, look to be the team to replace St Kilda in the top4. Though the Doggies are still in the hunt their.
Anyways, it turns out that this week was umpire appreciation week. Looking through the comments in this place though, you wouldnt have guessed it! There was a distinct amount of animocity towards the boys in white. However, while I want to keep the integrity of the comments of this place to the highest calibur, I do understand the feeling of being in the moment, heck- I did the same thing a number of weeks ago. So, were gunna try to come up with a method to ensure that both groups can enjoy themselves here. If youve got a suggestion, feel free to make it in the comments, I would love to hear it.
So. Collingwood v Fremantle. The battle for #1. The ground was set over at Subiaco for a huge clash. And from watching the comments in these parts, passions were fired up. But, Im just gunna talk about the Supercoach. Travis Cloke top scored with a 5 goal haul- netting 159 points. Sandiland...

So, it seems that walesy went to the pub last night before opening this topic...
whoops!
Great game by the pies- But as good as it was, Sandi is still a machine~! Gunna break $600k after that effort!

Well, last week I got the neighbours dog to do my tips, but he has unfortunately been stolen by them now they know his tipping prowess. Damn. This week, Im comparing each teams  to a Simpsons character, then picking my faves. Simpsons, youve saved my bacon again =D
Friday May 14
Fremantle v Collingwood at Subiaco, 6.40pm Doctor Hibbert v Rich Texan
Saturday May 15
Western Bulldogs v Sydney Swans at Manuka Oval, 2.10pm Frank Grimey Grimes v Professor Frink
Melbourne v West Coast at the MCG, 2.10pm  Ralph v Sideshow Bob
Brisbane Lions v Geelong at the Gabba, 7.10pm Eddy & Lou V Homer
North Melbourne v Adelaide at Etihad Stadium, 7.10pm Cletus V Mad Cat Lady
Sunday May 16
Richmond v Hawthorn at the MCG, 1.10pm  Snowball v Nelson
Port Adelaide v Carlton at AAMI Stadium, 2.40pm Apu v Mr Burns
St Kilda v Essendon at Etihad Stadium, 4.40pm Ned Flanders v Doctor Nick
Opinions on characters beating others is personal only.
Fre0=Doctor Hibbet. Always a good laugh, they are coming good like the good doctor does again and again for his patients.
Collingwood= Rich Texan because of Eddy Maguire and the fact that we love to hate their wealth.
Bulldogs= Frank Grimes. Done the hard work, but go nowhere so far. Also, only one Barry Hall brainsnap from meeting a grisly end.
Sydney=Professor Frink. May be ugly, but by recycling that same annoying laugh they can get a few laughs and successful inventions (aka wins) cant compete against quality characters though.
Melbourne=Ralph. Young, inexperienced and appears out of their depth on occasions, but has a bright future.
WCE=Sideshow Bob. Nic Naitanui. Need I explain?
Brisbane Lions= Eddy & Lou. The Brown/Fev show here, controlled by their coach/chief, Michael Voss/Clancy Wiggum.
Geelong= Homer. The old faithful team who always delivers for the...

Welcome to another edition of the Best Buys
ADVICE FOR THE WEEK
Some timely advice to consider if you want to win overall, or your league. Consider your trades precious, and look to buy low and sell high. This means that it is often more important to time your downgrades right more than upgrades. Downgrades allow you to realise value and net a bargain. Upgrades need to be thought through similarly. I will make it clear, if you want to win, you need to make best use of every dollar, and as such you should avoid paying full price for a premium...or for any player. Due to the cyclical nature of the game, and the 3300 rule, there will almost always be a player who represents value or a bargain. Therefore, bring in bargains for upgrades, not necessarily best player available. If the best player is a bargain too, thats good and well. An example of this is Brendon Goddard at the moment. The best defender, but is about 50k away from his peak.
On to the rest of the show:<!--more-->
FRESH MEAT
Two players at the 2 game mark, both from Perth
Roberton from Fremantle; Stevenson from WCE. Both have shown decent form, both are slightly risky selections in terms of job security (Stevenson a rookie), both are relatively cheap and in the good areas for cows (DEF/MID).
Hughes looked decent for Melbourne in the light of Petterds injury. Could be a prospect here.
Wait on Rohan to show more this week after a Swans shellacking at Skilled. Could do more so hold fire.
Sheppard and Webberley came through as defenders debuting, and as such are worth a look for another week to see which one is a better downgrade prospect.
Jaensch is also at the two game mark as a forward, and needs to be considered in light of your trading strategy, particularly if you are looking to do a keeper cow (e.g. Hall out - a risky move for mine)
From last week though, much meat put on the table for us hungry traders which is good to see.

A third of the way through the season, and this years brownlow medal is fast becoming a three man race. With the Pies, Dockers and Cats now at the top of the table, so too are their main midfielders in Swan, Barlow and Ablett. Whilst Barlow had a relatively quieter week, Swan picked up his second BOG on the trott, whilst Abletts performance is at this stage the guaranteed three of the year.
For Swan to be on 9 votes after seven rounds, considering he only picked up 12 for the entire 2009 season, may seem a little far fetched - but that should correct itself this year. He polled in 7 games for his 12 votes, so he was being noticed, but just not picking up the three. He did manage to poll 20 votes back in 2007, so Im tipping hell be back up again this year.
And what about Ablett? Whilst its easy to read too much into statistics - consider this stat: In the period from 2007-2009, GAJ collected 30+ possessions and kicked multiple goals on 13 occassions, for a total of 33 votes, including 10 best on grounds.
Hes already done that 5 times this year...

So, two tickets to the Big day out, and a chauffereured ride, all thanks to the good folk at Combined Chauffeured Cars. Love your work guys!
So... Are we all waiting with baited breath to find out who won?? Well, before I get to that, Ive got to mention the cash donated to the <a href="http://www.bcna.org.au/">BCNA[/url]. Well, we had 101 entrants into the competition (Good work guys!) and we said wed donate $1 for each of the first 100 so thats $100 from us. I might even throw in the extra $1 there. Then, and this is the awesome bit, there was a further $60 donated by the good folk out in TS land!! Yay for you guys! I did watch the click throughs throughout the week and noted that there were a number of clicks through to that direct donate page too so... awesome work to all of you who gave of your own hard earned. Anyhoo... that brings us to an official grand total of to $161 (sorry, Im 99% sure it was a guy who won).
Now, onto the prize winner, winning the competition by a single point *insert drumroll* was resident commenter SoUpS!!! Quality picking and have an absolutely fantastic Big Day Out on Combined Chauffeured Cars!!! Dont worry. I wont pout on the day. Too much.
The winning choices were as follows:
<table style="border:1pt solid silver">
selectedpoints
Giansiracusa1
Didak4
Vince10
Cox10
Ablett1
Watson2
Barlow10
Goddard5
Love the Barlow call.
This comp was funnin so we might just make it a regular thing around these parts. By "we" I actually mean Walesy. Given hell be doing all the coding and such.
Anyways, the complete ladder can be found beneath.

[podcast]http://tooserious.net/podcasts/tsround7.mp3[/podcast]
disclaimer: Morning all, I wrote this last night while waiting for lock out, so some of the tense might be funny.
So, we finally have the end of lockout! I reckon I could get used to watching football on a Monday, I mean, its kind of a treat to watch it on a Monday night. What I cant stand though, is rocking up to work on Monday- and not knowing!! These last 24 hours have been torture! But, sigh- we are finally here. So. Lets see.
Now, in honor of Gazs domination, Im gunna do the report a little backwards- and start with the high scores.
So, with a massive captains knock of 203 (406 for those counting at home), the highest score for the round came through with a massive 2701 (nice call parasite!). While the Sideways was finally troubled, but not beaten! with three scores of 2493, 2491, 2489! In fact, we had 7 new entries into the top 20, but no-one broke 2500. So if you did break 2500, get your team in! Its not too late!
And since Im doing it a little backwards, well do a whip around of the TS TextOutSMS leagues to see where were at. 9th, 21st, 38th, 40th and 89th is where were sitting. I think we need to lift a little to get more into the top 20!!
The tipping saw a single player pick 8. Which was lucky, cause they tipped Gilbee.
Enough of that though, lets whip around the games and see what happened.
Friday night started off with the Field of Women. A wonderful event held by the AFL to raise awareness of Breast cancer (and a big shout out to CCC- you guys were great! Though there will be a post tomorrow with those results. ). Anyways, the game was a hum dinger. Melbourne have once again tabled their credentials to be finals contenders this year with another massive effort against another of last years top4. And in my personal opinion, contrary to that of the AFLs, only lost the game because they tried passing it to the umpire- one too many times...
Still, regardless...
