TooSerious
For those who take it way too seriously
So, Round six, rivalry round, has come and gone. And what started with an absolute panic, has finished with a suprising amount of decent scores. One I noticed, and sorry for pointing you out, broke 2000 with Ablett, Mitchell and Rockliff sitting on the field. would have been close to 2300 had this round not been painful.
Luckily, its finally time to start cashing in our cows. Or as they say in the biz, MMOOOOOOOOO. Theres a handful of cows that are due to be led to the slaughter, and a number of delicious premiums to get into.
Anyways, the round started with a battle between two of the top4 favorites. St. Kilda and the Western Bulldogs. And what an... interesting... game it was. About a kajillion disposals, under 100 points scored. Gilbee top scored in the game with a 153. Hargrave looks to have bottomed out. Looking pretty delicious at under $400k. Robbie Murphy bounced back with a 73 so his owners would be crossing their fingers for another good game from him next week. Higgins disappointed, but not as much as B. Hall who was held to 6 touches for one goal. He would have lost so cash, so if youve got a spare trade this week, it might be time to upgrade him.
More over the break,
<!--more-->
Saturday saw North Melbourne take on Melbourne. Jamar continued with his ripping for knocking up a ton. As did Petterd, hitting a solid 76, and breaking the $400k mark. Trengove and Scully did enough with 60s each, but will be approaching slaughterpoint if they cant put up a decent score next week. Meanwhile, Sylvia disappointed along with Harvey and Cunnington, who isnt coming out as the cashcow we all dreamed for. Currently his BE is worse than many of the options youd trade down to him.
The other game on Satuday was the Showdown. Which saw D. Rodan continue his post-knee form with another ton on the board, but it was Robbie Gray who impressed the most, rewarding those patient coaches with a solid 127. But there was a lot to not like about this game....

As you may have read, we have another competition to get up and running sponsered by the great people from Combined Chauffeured Cars in honour of the Field of Women game. In the offering are two tickets to The Big Day Out in Melbourne with a chauffeuered ride. Awesome, no?
More than awesome, its a great way to make it up to the long suffering significant other in your life that has to put up with the season long obsession with SuperCoach and Footy in general. What says "I promise not to mention Ablett for at least a month" better than a big day out thanks to Combined Chauffeured Cars?
As was rightly pointed out, though there may be a whole lot of testosterone floating around these parts, there are some seriously involved ladies as well. If one of these women take out the competition, we just might have to throw in a little extra. It is the Field of Women competition, afterall.
So, what does the competition entail? If youve been clicking on that link up there for the Compeitions page to enter your tips, you might have noticed a new tab CCC Field of Women. Were running this competition from there. Essentially, what you have to do is try to predict the SuperCoach highest scoring player from each game that will be played in round 7. You select a player from one of each of the games that will be playing using the drop down menus and then enter in the score you think theyll get for the game. Walesys written up the exact way itll be scored on the page but basically, the closest to the button for the weekends worth of games will win. So head up there or <a href="http://tooserious.net/tipping.php?page=tipping&display=tipping_SC_players">click here to have a look.

Seems that Gary Ablett is out!
So last minute panicing is the modus operandi.
Its not so much what to do trading wise I wanted to discuss, but a topic that I havent thought about in a while. Non Ablett Captaincy.
One of the first things I do is go to the <a href="http://tooserious.net/example.php?page=gameday">TooSerious Live Scores pages. Click on the Pre game options. This is one of the little used features of TS, but was very handy before Gaz took the world by storm.
Using it, I can see that the following should make excellent captaincy options. (In no apparent order)
Goddard, Franklin, Hodge, OKeefe, Chapman, Bartel, Judd, Pendlebury, Swan, Simpson, Pavlich
Sure, theres not much time to go, but hopefully the page helps you a little bit!

So, did we all survive midfield-gate?
Either way, its too late now!
I guess the rumours of Gia running around with a broken rib were a little... exaggerated.
I gotta say though, those sainters are good at keeping the score down, arent they!
Also, Ive been screwing around in the code and have set something up you might like.
A delay feature on the live scoring. Currently its in its test phase, but if you want to see it in action, pull up the live score page.
Once there, add (&delay=60) to the URL and press enter.
Alternatively, you could just go here: http://tooserious.net/example.php?page=gameday&delay=60
Now any game you view will be delayed by 60 minutes - so set that timer to your liking! Ill figure out a better way to set it up in the future, but until then, we can test it this way. Now I can finally watch the stats and the game at the same time!
Also, adding &refresh=60 will make the page automatically refresh every 60 seconds.

Well, its official. My worst start to tipping...ever. And we have another really hard week here. Good luck, youll need it.
Friday April 30
Western Bulldogs v St Kilda at Etihad Stadium, 7.40pm Top Scorer: Daniel Cross, 132
Saturday May 1
North Melbourne v Melbourne at Etihad Stadium, 2.10pm
Adelaide v Port Adelaide at AAMI Stadium, 2.40pm
Essendon v Hawthorn at the MCG, 7.10pm
Sydney Swans v Brisbane Lions at the SCG, 7.10pm
Sunday May 2
Geelong Cats v Richmond at Skilled Stadium, 1.10pm
Carlton v Collingwood at the MCG, 2.10pm
West Coast v Fremantle at Subiaco Oval, 2.40pm
No Riewoldt, no Saints? No quite, but they havent looked quite as solid without him in the last two weeks. Bulldogs will be desperate to stamp themselves as premiership contenders, which they have failed to do so far in the regular season. Melbourne-can they win another? North were lucky to win against an insipid Hawks outfit last week. Im giving the Crows one last chance, as the Power will be sore after the Saints and we all know the Crows get up for the Showdowns. Essendon are looking like a bottom 2 side, and should be smashed by the Hawks (watch out for Buddy, especially without Pears!) Swans havent faced much opposition, but Im hoping they can get over the Lions, coming off a disappointing game against the Dees. Cats V Richmond, do I have to explain??? Carlton were great against the Cats, but big game fever may strike again, and the Pies are simply a better side. Freo have had an awesome start, and hold the wood over the Eagles in derbies.

The lucky winners are, Lachy, Stowie and SPA. Congratulations fellas, you should have a winning email sitting in your email box.
And to those who werent quite as lucky, dont forget- were giving away tickets, and a chauffeured ride to the Big Day Out shortly, so keep an eye out.
Also, dont forget, you can still download the demo. Its a damn good game and well worth the $40 you would pay for the sheer amount of hours youll get out of it!

While last week had some big ins, round 6 sees the outs come flying fast!
A timely reminder of just how important our trades are.
One big thing to note though. Bock and Stevens came in, but Davis didnt go out.
Rockliff, Peterson, Dangerfield, Reimers is going to hurt a lot of peoples forward line.
While Moles and Martin are going to hurt the Mids.
IN: Hargrave, Bock, Jaensch, Stevens, Buchanan, Power, Duncan, Bower, Lockyer, Sheppard, Palmer.
OUT: Moles, Dangerfield, Lobbe, Melksham, Colyer, Reimers, Peterson, Rockliff, Dustin Martin, Warnock, Dalziell.

What to do, what to do, what to do?
28 years old. Taken at pick 30. Shattered coaches on the weekend.
His results for this season so far are:
130 (WCE)
171 (CAR)
141 (PTA)
81 (WBD) - This is where the mystery illness took hold
39 (MEL) - A 39 against last years wooden spooners.
As with last week and Riewoldt, this one player has dominated our comments. So heres my thoughts.
So whats going on?
<!--more-->
The official Brisbane Lions line is <a href="http://www.afl.com.au/news/newsarticle/tabid/208/newsid/93183/default.aspx">Brown a certainty to face Swans. Honestly though, I think that is a scarier option than him having time off. If Brown is still underdone, and goes out to play- not only does he stand the chance of injurying himself further, he will also more than likely take another massive salary drop. Predictions say that if Brownie puts up another 40, then hes going to drop another $77k. Two more 40s will see the Browndawg drop into the 300 thousands.
So its of dire importance to find out whats going on.
Before we look into that, lets remember what makes a solid trade. 300 points and $100k. Or $200k+ as a downgrade. So can we use the same principles to question a falling star? If Brown scores two 40s, then a trade will earn you roughly 120 points and $150k. Which is pretty damn close to a decent trade. Three 40s, which is almost worst case, would see the trade earn you 180 points and $210k. Which is a trade we should do.
Worst case is that he does that, then goes on a surgury based holiday for a couple.
So we know, if we expect Brown to go downhill, then trade now. But what if he doesnt crash horribly? What if he just performs poorly poor the next 17 weeks ala Hodge/Judd? Lets see what an average of 80 would do. Well, the first thing- its gunna lose you $150k. But thats all unrealised losses. So you cant really count that. What you can count though, is 17 rounds of 20ppg that youre missing. See: 340 points.

Three players have this week moved in to contention for this years Brownlow Medal, with best on ground performances in their respective matches. Scott Pendlebury winning the Anzac Day Medal, Aaron Sandilands who would have to be this years most consistent player, and Luke Hodge in a losing side all polling three votes to move within striking distance of superstar Gary Ablett and wonder-rookie Michael Barlow.
Ablett and Barlow both did enough to earn two votes and move in to outright first and second on 9 and 8 votes respectively.
With the competition now being 5 rounds in, it is worth a look to see how some of this years favourites are tracking:
Gary Ablett - $4 - 9 (1st)
Chris Judd - $7 - 4 (=13th)
Jonathan Brown - $15 - 6 (=4th)
Luke Hodge - $17 - 7 (3rd)
Adam Goodes - $17 - 1 (=66th)
Ryan Griffen - $21 - 4 (=13th)
Jimmy Bartel - $21 - 4 (=13th)
Marc Murphy - $21 - 3 (=20th)
Aaron Sandilands - $21Â - 6 (=4th)
Barlow will have to start shortening soon...still paying $81, coming in from $126 after his 33 possession, 132 SuperCoach game on the weekend. If Fremantle keep winning games like they are - which midfielders are going to take votes off of him? Sure Sandilands and Pavlich will poll well, but both are key position players, and traditionally will not poll as well as a sides gun midfielder - which Barlow is fast becoming.
Whilst I have GAJ in first on 9 votes, I myself would be suprised if he is sitting on that many after round 5. Looking at each game individually, he is a strong chance to poll in all (aside from the Hawthorn game) - however will the umpires rate him against the others players on the park, or against what he is ultimatley capable of? If it is the latter dont be suprised if he has only amassed 5-6 votes to date.
All votes over the break.
