For those who take it way too seriously
Yeah I hate to say I told you so, but Dayne Beams is out with a groin injury. Steele Sidebottom has been named in an extended bench, but if you put your faith in him getting a run, you have faith in him getting a run ahead of Shaw.  Maybe if he doesnt come up, but youd think Stanley with more AFL experience and a 4 goal performance in the VFL would get the gig.
Big ins and outs this week though.  I think a few people would have Richardson, Yarran, Houlihan, Wells, Pratt, Hartlett, Ablett, Knights, Beams - all out.
And for a change, Cheney is on the extended bench.  I would say zero chance of getting a game though.
The ins and outs and extended benches:
Essendon: In: Neagle, Bellchambers, Houli Out: Dustin Fletcher (leg), Scott Lucas, Leroy Jetta (knee)
Hawthorn: In: Birchall, McGlynn, Stokes Out: Brent Guerra (back), Jarryd Morton, Brent Renouf
Richmond: In: Brown, Cousins, Simmonds Out: Matthew Richardson (hamstring), Jordan McMahon, Mitch Morton
Brisbane: No changes
Carlton: In: Chris Yarran, Shaun Hampson Mark Austin Richard Hadley Out: Greg Bentley, Setanta O’hAilpin, Andrew Carrazzo, Ryan Houlihan
Fremantle: In: Pratt Out: Ryan Crowley (foot) New: Luke Pratt (Swan Districts)
North Melbourne: In: Wells, Campbell, Ross, Goldstein Out: Pratt (knee), Greenwood, Power, Lower
Port Adelaide:In: Davenport Out: Hamish Hartlett (hamstring) New: Jason Davenport (Geelong)
Geelong: In: Harley, Ling Out: Gary Ablett (groin), David Johnson
Sydney: No changes
Western Bulldogs: In: Ward, Welsh, Williams
I/C (from): Dylan Addison, Callan Ward, Nathan Eagleton, Andrejs Everitt, Daniel Giansiracusa, Liam Picken, Scott Welsh
Adelaide: In: Knights, Maric, Moran, Shirley, Symes Out: Cook, Griffin

How your boys going? Is anyone else out there silly enough to go for Cloke or Thomas instead of Leon, like me. What about Beams, 2 week injury and will only be $231,448 after this round and without a big score from the little fella yet, Im was expecting that to go way higher. The kid is definitely capable of a couple of 100s this year! Maybe this is a chance for Sidebottom?
Alright, not really Fantasy football related, more poker related...
But I thought I would give it a little plug.

Morning all! Ive got round 5 up and about.
Boy oh boy, the contraversy of Hille AND Boomer all in one week. wow.
Annoyingly, my code will be "incorrectly" counting those Zeros as games counted towards salary... so unless VS say something, dont trust my predictions on those two guys until Ive done an update.
Im sure that a lot of people must be hurting in the Rucks now. Simmo, Ottens and now Hille. Seriously, next year Im just going to go with Cox and the cheap ruck that everyone else jumps on... It just keeps working and I keep expecting it not to!
Ablett put out another outstanding effort as captain. So Im averaging 159 for my captain this year... (Thats gotta be a record right?
)
And the highlight scores revolve around SEVEN 170 scores!
A huge game to Lenny taking the prize as best of the round.
(Though Neon took out the DreamTeam prize... :S)
Not that there... yanno, *are* prizes for that at all...
So, how did we all fair? Outraged at ZeroGate? i know I am!! Damn code change! It took ages to get that zero handling working preperly!

The <a href="http://tooserious.net/?p=366">Too Serious- Fantasy Football Best and Fairest[/url] deadline is fast approaching.
In fact, its tomorrow- at lockout oclock.
So youre going to want to get in now if you want a shot at that $500. - And believe me, for your investment, youll be looking at a better than 1 in 50 shot.
So get in here peoples! Who will win take out Fantasy Footballs Best and Fairest, on Fantasy Footballs night of nights?
And more importantly, what should this prize be called?
I for one am leaning towards the Buckley. Named in recognition to services rendered towards the comp- But hey, Im open to suggestions.

Following on from the discussion in the previous threads, I thought it would be a good idea to see exactly how much of the pie each team gets, and if it relates to the real ladder position.<img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-397" src="http://tooserious.net/wp-content/uploads/2009/04/scladder.jpg" alt="scladder" width="718" height="328" />
From this table we can see that only one side is in the top 8 of the SuperCoach points isnt in the top 8 of the real ladder (North Melbourne), and likewise Sydney is the only one that is in the 8 in real life but not in Supercoach. I think this is an incredibly good result, and may start using this in my footy tipping! West Coast is the biggest anomaly, however there massive thumping by the Saints may mean this is inaccurate.
In SuperCoach terms, there are a few things you can draw from this. One is never pick Freo players, as they are clearly the worst side in Supercoach. The other is feel free to stack your side with players from Geelong, Port, St Kilda, Carlton and the Bulldogs, as they have more than enough points to share. It will be interesting to see the Hawks points after they start winning some games though. Im no statistician, so maybe someone else can pull some more information out of this.
Hope this will start some discussion!

And reading though the comments in the last post, it has occured to me that I assume intrinsically, that you all know the same things about this game as I do.
This however, isnt the case.
As such, Im going to get going on a series of articles to teach you everything you *should* know about this game.
From trading tips to gun/rookie selection tips and through to general concepts and how they relate to any overarching strategies.
Should be fun.
(Oh, and there will be an upcoming post on the Best and Fairest award. Dont forget! Its the last week to get your picks in!)
Cheers guys.

Now the season starts properly with head to head match ups! For some reason, Im playing Sheedy in all 3 of my leagues first up-pencil in a win for me!
So how is everyone else doing?
So how is everyone else doing?
Those of you loyal fans that are back after last year will remember Dogs Best Buys, well in 2009 it is back. Not yet, though. But here is a teaser.

Get that good stuff ready for Hodge and Riewoldt after their drops of $60,000, they whacked on a reasonable score this week meaning their breakeven are still high but reachable at 161 for Hodge and 154 for Roo. Expected another one or two reasonable drops and then hit the trade button.
A few that are still along way off their lowest price are Black with a breakeven of 225, Power with 191 and Cooney at 190 after an already massive $64,700 price drop.
Harvey has had the biggest drop of the week, and has continued to score poorly. His breakevn of 187 means he might be a straight swap for Skipworth or Higgins in the near future.
Also, keep a watch on Bartel (breakeven: 169), Buddy (183) and Pavlich (135) who should all continue dropping in price. In the ruck watch Hille (109) and Petrie (124) as they have had small drops and all it will take is one really bad week and we could see those with a poor 2nd ruck jump on at a bargain price.

This is really the last week for you to finish your team before prices really kick in, taking players beyond reach. A lot of the players I mentioned in last weeks bargains have not yet maxed out, so for players like Krakouer, Rich, Dangerfield and Gilbert still at achievable prices with lots of upside. Despite this, there are a few more bargains who have only played 2 games to find a place on your bench for.
Dayne Beams, Collingwood, Midfielder, $94,200, Breakeven -84
The Magpie with the tattoos has scored reasonably well, and history tells us that when Mick picks a youngster he gives them a fair go (think Anthony, Clarke, Wellingham and Brown). The Pies need inside midfielders so he should get a good run.
David Zaharakis, Essendon, Midfield, $94,200, BE -97
Another classy midfielder, this one is more a wingman though. The round 2 rising star should hold his place due to Essendons need to blood the kids, but may find his TOG cut by the returns of McVeigh, Welsh, Prismall and maybe even Lonergan and Houli.
Liam Picken, Western Bulldogs, Midfield, $83,400, BE -53
Definitely not my first picked, but seems to have locked his spot in with excellent tagging performances on Brent Harvey and Brett Deledio.
Darcy Daniher, Essendon,Forward, $138,200, BE -60
Scoring reasonably well from full back, however i doubt hell be in the side when Hurley returns. Frankly, he looked terrible on Fevola on the weekend and only Fevs kicking saved him from an absolute mauling.
Alex Rance, Richmond, Defence, $94,200, BE -80
Performed reasonably well in the last two games for the Tigers, at this stage I think he may be better value than Cheney was last week. Provides some flair and shuts down his opponent, the Tigers would be mad to drop him.
Knightys top picks:
Unless you have an injury, you should probably be saving your trades for upgrades and cashing in your rookies later on, not to mention more...
