TooSerious

For those who take it way too seriously

Alright, there is a lot of things going on this week. So well start with the most important.

Buster Gonad has extended his lead on the competition! Scoring an impressive 2421 and extending his lead on every other team in the top 10.

Keep it up son! Youve put toogether an awesome squad!

The semi finals just ran through in the TS Legends, with the Krazy Kripples and Liveforthepies making it through to the prelims to meet up with the dominant Kismet and Windy Hill Wizards, both of which are looking to have the top two positions sewn up unless tragedy strikes.

The TS legends also managed to sneak a little closer to the top of the league board, but EDT2 are right on our tails.

Looking at the players of the round though, its not suprising to see a bomber at the top of the tree

Jobe Watson - a game winning 196 points
Gary Ablett Jnr - Returns to the top of the tree with an impressive 164.
Adam Selwood - Wasnt expecting to see this particular Selwood in the top three, never the less, a great effort with 156.
Angis Monfries - and what I believe was a game winning 4 goal second quarter was enough to lift his scores to 154 for the week.
Matt Priddis - Rounding out the top five with a 151.

The other news that us fantasy fiends are interested in this week is that the EPL has just started.

Not just that, but Game week two starts in hardly any time! (what, tomorrow night?) - So get involved if youre in! :D

Just a quick round up of the comps.

The official site has started well, with a strong group of 68 players.

The virtualsports comp has got of well with the game of the round definitely being between the Mighty Red Devils vs Gooners4eva.

The Gooners, scoring the second highest score in the league with 197 being destroyed by the Devils with a massive 220. Great start to the season boys!

And finally iinet. Our league is sitting on top of the pile there, with 40pts, far surpassing 2nd and 3rd, on 29 and 25.

If we can keep that league...
And this is just too good to leave in the comments...

Were caught in a trap
I cant walk out
Because I love you too much Ablett
Why cant you see
What your scores are doing to me
When you dont perform well as captain ...
We cant go on together... with scores under 150 (scores under 150)
And we cant win the premiership without a consistent captain.

So with a Broughton I know
His doing more than saying hello
could he score more than 150
here we go again
inefficient handballs in the backhalf to begin
You cant see these tears are real
your losing me my supercoach final

Thank you Elvis, and carn the Crows.

Hows everyone going this evening?
Partly to talk teams, partly to talk EPL, partly to push that Flaming DreamTeam shield down.

The big news for the week looks to be the Saint, with what- *everybody* returning to the fold this week. Honestly though, its Armitage I feel bad for, he put in a great effort last week. (and the bombers... :p)

Outside of the Saints though, the other ins and outs that look to be of importance to the Supercoaches out there.

In: Lovett, P Burger(?), Murphy, Muston
Out: Bruce, Milburn, Cross, Taylor "-6" Walker.

yep. Hes never gunna live down *that* nickname. Save my bacon by filling in for a zero. Then getting me knocked out of the finals by 4 points. Bloody Walker.

EPL.
Two days and one hour til go til kickoff. Or 9:45 pm AEST, Sat 15 August in the queens english. So if you want to get involved, get in there.

The Virtual Sports league is now full. Looks to be a good crew I reckon. Should be able to pull top ten if things go the right way! (And people dont give up after GW 10 ! :D)

And speaking of giving up after GW 10 (alright, thats a terrible segue), A TS commenter, JJ, has set up a league over on the iiNets EPL if anyone is interested. Essentially, you get 4 trades a month. And from what I can tell, can trade mid-week. (Which is a pretty sneaky way of making the big bucks!). Just need to figure out how their salary movements work- cause theres a good chance that people might drop out of this one come week 10!

And because of that, if we can get a good group in there, as a league win they are offering 10x$100 myer gift cards. Not too shabby for leveraging off the research youre already doing. :)

<A href="http://fantasycompetition.iinet.net.au/">http://fantasycompetition.iinet.net.au/
The league name is: JJ
The password: tooserious

I just ask one thing. If you do plan to join, try to stick around. (Unless, yanno- we all suck and the league is languishing in 40/40th. Then feel free to jump ship! Ill go first! :p)

And finally, the...
Sure, its not Supercoach, but it is closer to it than the EPL, so I figure well make a league. :D

Heres the league code if anyone is interested.

Im putting away the Punch, and pulling out the Hugz!

I highly doubt there will be any prizes this year, since the Best and Fairest stole all the prize fund! :D

Lets just blame Geelong and move on. :D

However, I will be continually updating the DreamTeam stats with Finals stats for those who are interested! ;D
A round that will go down in imfamy.

A round where I got knocked out of the TooSerious by 4 points. By fellow missing poster, Sizza, would was running with Goodes as captain. Quality choice boy! Nicely played! :D

But the big news for the round has got to be Buster Gonad. Both Chris and PK Le Grand have extended a lead on the pack of over 300 points. Though at the same time, find themselves seperated by 4 points.

Exciting times guys. Good luck Chris!

The TS legends moved up to 2nd position. Great job guys!

And to wrap up the round, Im just gonna go with the pros (cause there were enough disappointments in this round, a round where my 1775 saw me *only* drop from 800th to 900th!)

Pulling in the highest score for the round- Adam "goddamnit!" Goodes, sinking my finals hopes with a MASSIVE 223.
Shannin Hurn pulled out a Gonad Busting 172.
Andrew Embley ran into third place with a 167.
Greg "We *all* love you" Broughton came into 4th place this week with a 157
and Diddles rounded out the five with a lovely 153

Outside of those though, a couple of players this week stood up in a way where there stocks for next year may have gone up.

Goldstein with a dominant 5 goal effort and 138 points.
Le Cras, cracking the ton for a second week in a row with a personal best 135. (well, cept for that one game in 2006)
And Cam Wood, since coming back in round 16, has been averaging just under 100- culminating in a 125 this round.

Anyways, here to hoping that our players come back next week! Good luck all.
Rather than the usual chat entry where I review the first game, Im just going to post random quotes of pain and dispair.

- Oh the humanity.
- It was the best of times, it was the blurst of times.
- Now is the winter of our discontent.
- "FFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU" - FFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU man.
- Once upon a time I was falling in love but now Im only falling apart. Theres nothing I can do, a total eclipse of the heart.

Feel free to add injuries, or quotes, or talk on how your weekend has gone as we go along.
Alright guys, Ive had a couple of people ask me about the EPL stats the weve historically tracked, and Ive some bad news.

I highly doubt that we will be running salary predictions on the EPL comps this year. (Unless someone can get me the time over the next two weeks to set it all up!)

or yanno, if we get maybe a truckload of people innundating the comment here with calls for me to collect them.

Having said that, Im still going to be partaking in the off-season frivolity until at least the Pre-season starts back up! :D

As such, I figure Ill set up a TS league for anyone interested in having a crack.

Firstly, the official EPL comp- http://fantasy.premierleague.com/
Use the league code: 574545-174762

Or for those more comfortable with the Virtualsports method of salary movements, Ive also set up a league for their comp
http://epl.virtualsports.com.au/
League code: 239825

So there we go. If youre interested in jumping on board, then get in on it- it should be a little bit of something to get you through the off-season! :)
Sorry Walesy for bumping the EPL.  If you want to enjoy that comp: <a href="http://tooserious.net/?p=600">http://tooserious.net/?p=600

But its now crunch time and time for some Best Buys.   Keep your eyes out for selection issues this week.  Chapman and Ballantyne are already scratchings, and with players like ROK and Montagna also under the gun, its going to be an all important selection session tomorrow night, particularly for Comp leaders (and players like Chris and Woody).

My one piece of advice is try to get a playing emergency as even when players are selected they are no certainties to play - they can be late withdrawals.

Anyway, on with the show:

No use cash cowing unless you have 5 trades, maybe if you have 4 and some cover.  So Im just going to put two columns this time - "If Money is no object" and "Best Value".  All should be aiming to get 100 points this week or more - all these guys are capable of that.

DEF
If Money is no object:
1) Goddard - the best defender bar none
2) H.Shaw - in ripping form, not getting the tags thanks to Toovey / role clarification.
3) Broughton - why would you have not got him at 83k?
4) Enright - on a purple patch
5) Hodge - because hes Hodge

Best Value:
1) Drummond (427500) - paper thin hamstrings but no better kick in the league.  Love watching him play - his kicks travel twice as quick as others.
2) Newman (463100) - generally solid.  No touches, but loved by Champion Data
3) Lockyer (434100) - but does better in Pie defeats...?
4) S Fisher (398200) - could still turn it on with Gilbert missing a bit of footy
5) Grimes (433400) - thought he was gone...but hes BAAACK

MID
If Money is no object:
1) Ablett - cheapest he will ever be, will eat Carlton up
2) Montagna - the best of the Saints - buyer beware though - COULD BE INJURED!
3) Swan - the real deal this year, though Id prefer him after the Crows game
4) NDS/Hayes - cant split them.  Saints have a cruisy run.  Get on...
So, we dont normally talk about non-fantasy issues here at Too Serious, but theres been a lot of talk about it recently, and having a voice here, I cant help but say my piece.

As I see it, the major issue revolves around one point.

A club can recieve a long term gain though a short term failure. And that is the crux behind the issue.

I reckon the AFL sees this, hence they cut the priority pick back to two seasons of failure. Which is a good start, however, I dont think theyve gone quite far enough.

I believe that the current system is in place in order to enable the "bad" teams to improve, and keeping the system cyclical so that teams can move up and down over time.

However, looking at this year, if the ladder stayed as it is, last years grand finalist would be getting a better draft pick than a team that would be missing its 5th final series in a row.

So, Ill pose the question - What makes a successful season? The obvious answer is - A grand final win.

Being from a struggling bombers outfit, I would go out on a limb and say - making the finals.

So, can we play with this? What if we made the finals decide who got the draft picks?

What if we created a system that sent the higher draft picks to those clubs that have been struggling over a prolonged period of time?

Follow me here, cause this is the crux.

What if the draft order was determined by how long a team has been out of the finals series? (draws in that time would then take this years results into it).

Essentially, if this year stopped right now, the draft order would be as follows.

<!--more-->Richmond (8 seasons)
Essendon (5)
Melbourne (3)
Fremantle (3)
West Coast (2)
North Melbourne (1)
Sydney (1)
Hawthorn (1)

Port Adelaide
Carlton
Brisbane
Adelaide
Collingwood
Bulldogs
Geelong
St. Kilda

The net result would mean - It doesnt matter if a team tanks! It will *not* help them in a single season to tank. For Melbourne to win games, or for Richmond to...
Its a quick review this week. The TooSeriousLegends have dropped into 3rd! Carn boys, its finals time. Lift! Dont make me hook in a midi-version of Shanon Nolls into the website!

Kismet however, has leaped back into the lead with a solid 2474.

Meanwhile, I hear that 4th placed Virginia has gotten herself onto the Footy Show. :D

If anyone has youtube goodness of it, I would love to see it! :D

As for the champs league, Bray, you out there mate! (or anyone in that league really) Send us a screenshot! :D

Anyways, onto the big news Buster Goodthing! moves into first with a massive 2621! Keep it up son!

And the Woodyman is also starting his charge up the ranks and into the top 5!

Carn boys, do us proud!

arg... need to write more, but simply dont have time! will see what I can do later tonight... maybe. :)
