Round 17 (AFL round 20), the final H&A round for 2016
The Lefties Round; The Latin adjective sinister/sinistra/sinistrum originally meant "left" but took on meanings of "evil" or "unlucky" … and in English "sinister". In French, droit(e) means both "right" and "straight" (humph). While gauche means "left" and is a synonym of maladroit, literally "not right", perhaps "clumsy". In Sanskrit, the word "वाम" (waama) stands for both "left" and "wicked." So a fun round looked likely if viewed from the right or should that be the left? Oh, our review looks at things a little differently – why are you surprised?
Despite excellent prescience from the FIXtures Committee in scheduling fixtures that should have been critical to the composition of the top eight most of the final positions on the ladder were determined before the round began. The numbers in parenthesis were the ladder standings going into the final round.
Larrikin Lagoon [2] 1291 defeated Foul Bay [1] 1218
The bookies’ pets were far enough ahead of the Lefties to probably maintain their first pick in the finals advantage. The penultimate fixture of the round presented us with the prospect of Danger and Ducky performing what many pundits assumed would be the coup de grace;except Chris Scott decided to indulge in the sort of shenanigans Sam Newman might have thought were OTT. While Danger (who must be in his own SC team) decided to win his first round finals match the only way he knew possible the head Leftie (Lucifer?) drew a line in the sand and denied the chooks a win away from home. Sam Day’s 32 was trumped by BJ’s 36, and with many similar small gains the LLL eked out a victory which may be the entrée for the round 23 final. But who would you have as favourite now?
Iron Knob [3] 964 were defeated by Mount Beauty [4] 1468

Olympics and SC finals. It's all happening.
I'm happy cause Australia is on top of the ladder, and I now get the week off in my cash league. Squeaked over the line in the last game with Priddis' heroics!
Also cooked a killed Snapper and prawn bisque. #winning
How have you guys gone?

Well given trades are running out (for everyone I assume), I thought I'd do one more Best Buys as at this point in the season its not about making money or the future - its about who you can afford and who will do well in the last few rounds.
So read on for the last Best Buy of the season.
So read on for the last Best Buy of the season.

ORFFA ROUND 16 REVIEW
*Big thanks to Walsey for all his work with the ORFFA*
Nunawading (1152) def by Gundagai (1297)
Although an irrelevant game in terms of shaping the top eight, there’s nothing like taking winning confidence into next season. The Grasshoppers have now won two on the trot and look like they are finally starting to piece the puzzle together. Led by a dominant midfield of Adams (123), Cripps (118) and Neale (112), Gundagai comfortably beat the Nuffers, who didn’t get enough from their lower tier players despite a great effort from JPK (137). A win against the Lilacs this week could see Gundagai finish as high as 11th, whilst the Nuffers close out the season against Cradle Mountain.
Mount Beauty (1229) def Waikikamoocow (869)
Mount Beauty has been very impressive all year and this week was no different, easily defeating the injury ravaged Incorrigibles. Led by Sidebottom (108) and Gawn (108), the Uglies are sitting very nicely in third position going into the last round and now have a crucial game against Iron Knob to determine third and fourth positions. For the Incorrigibles, Hannebery (144) starred. However, barring a miracle, they are now out of the finals running and will have their eye firmly on 2017.
Foul Bay (1340) def Whitsunday (1301)
Not many fans turned up to watch this one, with the Foul Bay faithful just counting down the days until finals and expecting a routine victory here. It was the opposite, as the Warriors almost caused a shock upset, going down by just 39 points. Nonetheless, the Chooks are looking as ominous as ever with top spot secured and just one loss for the season. Usual suspects Dangerfield (144), Shaw (129) and Bartel (100) showed their class, whilst Betts (138) scored his first ton since round 10. The Warriors were led by Wines (116) and Birchall (115) but ultimately were overpowered.

Seeing some big scores around the place this week, heck, cracked the 2500 mark myself- always nice!
Funny thing is, there wasn't too many massive scores in that- just no real failures. Ksssss.
How are you guys sitting leading into the finals? My cash league, I'm sitting 2nd, with 3 trades in hand- so hopefully we can come home with the silverware this year!

Well last week was a bit rubbish … unless you follow our betting and took the value betting options on St Kilda and Brisbane … in which case you’re welcome! Last week our model predicted the closest round of the season (it didn’t turn out to be the case but there was still some good footy) and this week is the exact opposite with our model predicting the most one-sided round of the season. Check out our tips and confidence levels over the page.
Boom. Teams.

HOPPERS 1336 defeat WAIKIKAOOCOW 1001
We win, we win, we win………I mean, the Hoppers win (this is an unbiased review of course) in resounding
fashion against their North Island ally. Fat Rocky again was in huge form (154) for the Hoppers, with the whole
midfield stepping up: Adams 100, Cripps 137 & Neale 109. Throw in a lazy 109 by big man Brodie Grundy & the Hops
potentially have their highest score for the season. For the Moo Cows, not sure if the Choirboys pregame entertainment
had them holding their ears throughout the game, but both McVeigh & Howe in defense failed to run out for the start
leaving them two men down. Throw in stinkers by Titch 81 & Hanners 76 – not to mention Griffiths 40 & Paps 38 & the
moo cows were udderless. Only three time knee reco man, Menzel 120, turned up to play. The Hoppers remain in 15th
place and going nowhere, but the Cows have a struggle on their hands, locked in on 32 pts with 5 other teams vying
for finals.
WHITSUNDAY 1208 defeat the NUFFERS 1123
In a battle of middling cellar dwellers, the Warriors pulled out an 85 pt win over the Nuffers – but most likely
only because the Nuffs were munching on two donuts. The Warriors were led by old man Birch 106, while Boak 101 & surprise
high MSD pick Sam Gray 105 were really the only two standouts. The Nuffs were weakened by two non-starters in the middle,
with only McKenzie available on the bench (48) – and once again, Charlie “I have all the talent in the world but I’m made of balsa wood’
Dixon was a non-starter. If not for Kade Simpson 125, Taylor Hunt 111 & JPK 127 this could’ve got ugly.
Both teams languish in 13th & 14th position on the ladder and will be setting their sights on 2017 for a rebound season.
GUIM 1342 defeat the UGLIES 1322
An absolute cracker of a game, with the Guim just getting over the line by 20 pts in a squeaker that has both teams
primed for a finals run. Chris’s mob have now won...

With only 16 teams, TooSerious's newest ORFF league - the ORFFF - is heading into the first week of their first finals series this week, and with 4 weeks available, will be working with the same finals system as the AFL.
@tyze1 and his Rutherglen Fugitives will be rueing several early season close losses to teams that finished much lower than him, as they have just missed the 8, finishing in 9th spot and earning the chance to host the ORFFF Representative match during the week after the grand final (AFL Round 23).
On the other side of the ledger is @ViQBoZ and his Mole Creek Glow-worms who have snuck into the 8, despite having the 2nd worst total points scored in the league!
Well done to all 8 teams who have made the finals.
