TooSerious

For those who take it way too seriously

The Crows and Hawks lead off the round and with a swathe of SC stars on the pine this round coaches will be sweating on late outs and crunching the numbers on trade options.

I have a feeling it could be a very interesting at the top end of the standings in particular.

Let us know how your team is faring and if you need to then have a good old fashioned vent about how much we all prefer a split round to this annual mess.
This week in SuperCoach sees the completion of the first of the bye rounds, and some more carnage thrown in just for good measure. While many teams fared pretty well last week that all looks set to change, with this week looking like an absolute train-wreck for many sides. For the rest of us though, this round is shaping up to be the one where serious ground can be made up on the leaders with some astute selections and trades.

The Best Buy for the round is Luke Hodge. Currently the best scoring defender by average, although he did miss games earlier on in the season, the Hawks champ is in great form and offering plenty for prospective coaches. After their bye last week the Hawks should be well-rested and come out firing this week against the Crows in what should be a great match-up. With Adelaide playing some good footy Hodge will likely have plenty of opportunities to run the ball out of defense and up the ground, and could well be in for a big score.

DEFENSE
ROOKIES

Joel Hamling (WBD) DEF 123.9k 64 +52k
Hamling is the only rookie I see on the bubble this week that played in the last game, but at least he seems like a decent one. Averaging 64 from his first two games and facing a subsequent price rise of around 50 grand means if he can stay in the side then his 124 grand price tag is a pretty good buy.

MID-PRICERS

Tom McDonald (MEL) DEF 486.4k 106 18.7%

McDonald seems to be getting back to his early season form now, racking up 125 points against the Saints to bring his average for the year back up to 106. Now cheaply priced for that average, costing 486 grand, he faces a tough task against Geelong on the weekend before taking a rest. A gun player, but needs to be given the freedom to run off his man to make an impact on the SC scoreboard....
So, we have an early game this week- and lots of holes to plug!

Lets hope the sheets are kind.

So yes, an even 1,800 points in the first week of the byes, that's a ranking of 48,849 for the week. Our total aggregate score is now 22,835 which puts our overall ranking at 22,851. Hopefully the next two weeks are our opportunity to shoot up the ladder (or come crashing down!)

We had 16 scoring players this week, at an average of 112.5 points per player. If we were to extrapolate that to 22 players in a normal week, we'd be scoring 2,475 points. Can't really complain about that!

Defence
H Shaw 127
K Kolodjashnij 120
A Oxley 105
J Newnes 103
Zeroes of J Gibson, J Lever, K McIntosh, and B Smith.
Clearly a good start down back, with all four players topping the ton! Each player was around 20 points above their season average, with Kolo romping it in by an extra 40 points.

Midfield
L Parker 130
S Pendlebury 117 (Captain, 234)
JP Kennedy 97
A Saad 96
J Selwood 89
T Dumont 35
Zeroes of J Nelson, D McKenzie, P Dangerfield, D Beams, and P Cripps
Parker obviously did well, its a shame his teammate, and my namesake, couldn't. Dependles looks like he's slowly becoming less so, as it hurts having 234 from your captain when so many others got 300+ from theirs. Saad was good, new-recruit Ducky was a disaster, while Dumont was clearly still feeling the effects of Razor Ray!

Rucks
N Naitanui 147
T Goldstein 136
M Cox still on the pine with a donut.
Essendon clearly showed that playing without a recognised ruckman is a valid move, being belted at the bounces (although still getting heaps of clearances), and helping every side who has NicNat bump their score. I can't see too many other teams facing the Eagles without a ruckman again this season (although Sandi is doing a damn good job standing above everyone and tapping the ball all over the park). Goldy also pumped out a huge score, with both rucks firing together and outshining our captain by plenty...

Here we are again. At the third and final part of this Where Are They At? series. For those at the top who have waited patiently for me to write about their team; enjoy. Dates and details for the whole MidSeason caboodle follow these here nonsense writings.

<p style='color: #424242;][span style='letter-spacing: 0px;]My premiership dark horse. My smokey. My premiership dark horse named Smokey. Coulta find themselves heading towards the finals for the first time since 2012. With a wooden spoon and and a 3rd last finish in the intervening gap between post-season appearances, how do the Couldabeens find themselves as contenders for the flag this year, and what underpins such a unexpected ascension? Put simply Coulta have something they didn't have last time.
<p style='color: #424242;][span style='letter-spacing: 0px;]Mark Blicavs. A recruit from Queenstown last year, the games only M/R (ever) has taken his game to a new level. Albeit aided by changed scoring interpretations centred around the RUC position, Blicavs' 36ppg rise from last season to this one is mostly attributable to a sizeable leap in production. More hit-outs, more possession, more of it contested.
<p style='color: #424242;][span style='letter-spacing: 0px;]This increase in points from the R1 position, from bottom 6 to top 6, neatly mirrors the teams own rise in 2015. Without discounting Hartung stepping up in his second year to play at M4 or the inspired decision to draft Wallis into an M3 position given Liberatore's absence from the Dogs midfield, Blicavs levelling up to elite has in this pundits opinion been the difference maker. Having a worse RUC than your opposition is not something you can combat by having a better aggregate of players like in any of the other positional...
Bam. First round of the byes down. Hope it wasn't too ugly cause next week is gunna be a shocker!! :D
Let us know how you're sitting
6 sides take the week off and injuries and non selection of rookies throw bye planning into disarray for most of us

As Monty Python once sang 'always look on the bright side of life' and some will rise to the challenge and make big moves in the overall rankings in the next few weeks while others will switch to a league focus and keep their trades for key matches and finals where they are really needed.

Let us hear how you are travelling through the round !

Cheers
TTH
The dreaded byes are here for SuperCoach, and a whole raft of outs and injuries have come along for the ride. With any luck we'll see a few of those players that missed last week return, but personally I wouldn't bet on it. Due to the byes the format for Best Buys has changed a bit this week, where players not playing this round have not been included and a list of when teams have the week off added to the top. Keep in mind that many players listed here will be missing next week, so don't overextend yourselves when rushing to cover donuts.

The Best Buy was a tough one this round, with two contenders going head-to-head for the title and only the bye structure separating them. The winner in the end, was Ollie Wines. In great form this season after a brief injury lay-off Wines has stepped up his game and is looking to be an SC force for years to come. The other contender was one David Armitage, who only really missed out due to not playing next week. While he may not have gotten the title this time around, be sure to look out for his stats as he is in some serious form this season.

DEFENSE
ROOKIES

Tom Clurey (PTA) DEF 150k 48 +24k
Clurey looks like a good downgrade choice this week, averaging 48 after his 54 last outing to be on the bubble and facing a 24 grand price rise. Unfortunately however Hinkley has indicated that Trengove is a likely in this week which means Clurey has questionable job security at best, shame really.

MID-PRICERS

Jeremy McGovern (WCE) D/F 444.6k 93 6.8%

McGovern hasn't set the world on fire like his coaches were hoping, but with the injury issues among the Eagles back-six it's forgivable really. What he has done though, is average 93 points and has D/F eligibility which is great for those already fielding Missy. Priced well at under...

PORT ADELAIDE v. GEELONG

Recent game: Round 6 2014 Adelaide Oval – Port Adelaide 107 defeated Geelong 67.

Rd 3 2011: 134 SC points, 34 disposals

Average is 124 SC points with 25 disposals.

Note: Poor recent game against Port Adelaide with only 17 touches (although he operated at 94% disposal efficiency). He played against Cassisi in that game. Four of his past six scores, however, are over 125. His score in Round 9, 2013 was sub-effected; he was subbed off at three quarter time to have a rest after accumulating 18 touches at 89% disposal efficiency.
