MELBOURNE v PORT ADELAIDE
Saturday May 30 at Traeger Park, 2.10pm...
This week in the Best Buys the regulars have made a return, where players regularly in the Best Buys are listed but no comments on them are provided. If you've been reading all year there's a pretty good chance that you know what to expect from these blokes. Unfortunately due to time constraints the waiting list is somewhat lacking, but there should be plenty of options around for those looking to trade anyway.
The Best Buy this week has gone to, no surprise, Tom Rockliff. After suffering concussions, broken ribs and a punctured lung the Lions skipper now seems to be back to his old self and pumping out good numbers once again. Offering excellent value, even if he doesn't perform as well as last season, he seems a great pick even if it's for use on the bench and with loopholes later on in the season. Most SC coaches will be looking to find a way to bring in Rockliff this week, and really it's no wonder. Capable of winning games of both AFL and SC off his own boot, Rocky is an excellent pick and should be in most teams by the end of the bye rounds.
DEFENSE
ROOKIES
Jack Leslie (GCS) DEF 148.4k 48 +24k
Leslie is on the bubble for Gold Coast, after playing his first two games for an average of 48. He looks likely to improve his value by around 24 grand after his next game, but with Malceski soon to be back in the side questions remain about when that game will come.
MID-PRICERS
Cale Hooker (ESS) DEF 428.9k 96 6.6%
Hooker bounced back to form on the weekend, scoring a solid 115 to take his season's average back up to 96. Costing under 430 grand and with the ability to pull out some big scores from time to time Hooker looks decent value in a line that is sorely lacking in consistency.
Michael Hurley (ESS) DEF 470.7k 96 1.7%
Hurley also bounced back well against the Lions, scoring 121 to also bring his average to 96. Around 40 grand more expensive than Hooker but just as inconsistent Hurley can...

Powlett Plains Packers 1341 def Birdsville Battlers 1179
A dominant midfield display and even contributions across the board set up a commanding win for the Packers. The Packers had this one in hand a long way from home, so much so that late call up Claye Beams wasn't even required to secure the win. On the other hand, a season low score for the Battlers as their defenders - the saviours all season so far - suffered a collective let down. Coach JC got ok, if largely uninspiring scores everywhere else.
Best:
Packers - Mundy 124, Williams, 122, Miles 121
Battlers - Ebert 106, White 100
Whitsunday Warriors 1006 def by Larrikin Lagoon Lefties 1206
A quality midfield effort sees the Lefties get the job done against a struggling Warriors outfit that got precious little from its backline. For the Lefties, Priddis and Mitchell continue to show that youth isn't everything, while TiB was just grateful he had some Wines available this week to take the edge off Motlop's horror outing.
Best:
Warriors - Barlow 133, Kennedy 105, Lobbe 104
Lefties - Priddis 128, Mitchell 123, Lewis 117
Charlies Opening 1356 def Darraweit Guim Dirigibles 1224
Lead by the Steeplechaser, the Spelunkers got quality contributions from the lot as they cleared another hurdle in the form of the Dirrigibles. Kane Cornes missed a fairytale ending twice, bowing out in an upset in both the AFL and the FA. With talk of possible tanking surrounding the Spelunkers in recent times, one wonders whether Coach Bandit is left cursing another win?
Best:
Spelunkers - Blicavs 134, Hooker 115, Jack 107
Dirigibles - Maric 125, Fireman Kane 122, Armitage 101
Iron Knob Codpieces 1226 def Cradle Mountain Devils 1182
In a game filled with highs (the Other Reiwoldt, Pendles) and lows (five scores under 50), Jack Redden's late withdrawal appears to have cost the Devils a much needed win against the Codpieces, who get pull a get out of jail card (or possibly a Jack Redden...

We're showing improvement, beating our average of 2,069 in round 8, with a score of 2,130. That score gave us a rank of 29,071 for the week. Our aggregate score is now 16,550 while our overall rank is on the improve again to 31,796.
Straight to the good news. We had the VC on Danger who looked to me to be on the way to only an average 100+ score, although he ended up getting 130. We had an opportunity to use the loophole if we needed it, but Danger wasn't looking that good, so we kept the C on Pendles, who promptly scored 135 points. They were our two top scorers, and they had the armbands. Finally.....
Now onto the team breakdown.
Defence:
K Kolodjashnij 110
J Gibson 106
A Oxley 98
J Newnes 92
H Shaw 91
J Lever 73
Bench of K McIntosh 54 (E), and B Smith 0.
A pretty solid performance in defence this week. Two tones with a top score of 110, three in the 90's, and the lowest score of 73 coming from a rookie. The injured and disappointing B Smith on the pine, and the round 1 flash in the pan” McIntosh as the emergency. No more points to be made, so no complaints!
Midfield:
S Pendlebury 135, Captain 270
P Dangerfield 130
L Parker 124
JP Kennedy 104
D Beams 104
P Cripps 68
T Miller 63
C Ellis-Yolmen 59
Bench of A Saad 84 (E), D McKenzie 63, and J Nelson 29.
We already heard the good news about our C and VC this week. Next up was new-recruit Parker, who pumped out a 124, while Kennedy and Beams broke the ton, but only just. The rookies were somewhat disappointing, with all three well below their averages, and none of them managing to break 70 points. There might be some axe-swinging this week! Off the bench was Saad's 84, which could have replaced CEY, and given us an extra 25 points.
Rucks:
N Naitanui 103
T Goldstein 44
Bench of M Cox 0
Big NicNat did the job we expected of him all year. On the other hand, and I'm sorry for repeating this joke, but Goldy nearly got outscored by Cox, and Cox...

A massive 171 for Jack Steven this week. Imagine what he could have done with a *real* surname!?!?
Gotta say, this weekend was going to script til this afternoon with Melbourne and Richmond pulling of some tidy upsets.
That said, spent last night at a 50's costume party that contained an open bar. So while the bash was real swell. A real blast, the noggin is a little grody today.

Winner gets a cyber pat on the head.
I'm gunna go with: 42 points.
