For those who take it way too seriously

Fire up the bugles, cause round 4 is here!!
I wish there was a way to add sound effects to these blog posts, I think it would really enhance the experience.
For starters we have our round 3 score - 1,808 points (there'd be a big metal-on-metal smashing noise right about now!).
Then we look at the round 3 ranking, of 132,743. We must have been one of the worst ranked teams who are actually taking it seriously. I'd imagine the roaring sound of a destructive landslide right about now.
The next two I'll combine - the total score year-to-date is 6,059 and our overall rank is a ridiculous 51,885. I'm sure most of you could come up with your own disastrous sound effects here - I'm imagining a 10-minute long earthquake in a glass and fine china factory.

Alright, lets have a look at the team breakdown, to see how the team broke down.

Defence:
H Shaw 116
A Saad 76
J Gibson 72
J Newnes 72
K McIntosh 64
K Kolodjashnij 52
Bench of A Oxley 97 (emergency) and N Brown 28.
So far so good - its nothing spectacular, but 452 points from the backs at this early stage isn't the end of the world. There was obviously 45 points missed by having KK onfield instead of Oxley.

Midfield:
D Beams 138 - after I whinged about picking him as captain last week when he only scored 73.
S Pendlebury 107 (VC, didn't think it was enough to try loopholing it)
C Ellis-Yolmen 104
I Heeny 96
O wines 76 and an injury!
P Dangerfield 74
A Vandenberg 65
JP Kennedy 61 (C, 122) Clearly the captain selections were backwards, after JPK got 130 last week.
Bench of P Cripps 89 (E), T Miller 86, and J Nelson 43 (E)
I think the suitable sound effect here would be the screams of a woman in the middle of giving birth to a 15 pound baby! So many points missed here that its not funny anymore. We got 782 from our mids, when astute selection could have gotten us 908 (much more respectable and a whole 126 points more!)

Rucks:
T Goldstein 110
N Naitanui 77
Bench of M Cox with 0

RICHMOND v. MELBOURNE

Recent game: Round 9 2014 MCG – Melbourne 91 defeated Richmond 74.

Rd 22 2011: 94 SC points, 18 disposals

Average is 110 SC points with 24 disposals.

Note: Good, but not a spectacular, recent record against Melbourne. No scores over 130. Has played the two most recent games matched up against Jones. Cross was sent to tag Deledio in Round 9 2014 whilst McKenzie was sent to Deledio in Round 8 2013.

ST KILDA v. CARLTON

Recent game: Round 16 2014 Etihad Stadium – Carlton 151 defeated St Kilda 66.

Murphy v. St Kilda

Rd 7 2011: 90 SC points, 24 disposals

Average is 99 SC points with 26 disposals.

Note: Poor record against St Kilda. He avoided the tag in the most recent game as Weller went to Gibbs (and kept him to only 61 SC points). Prior to that game, Murphy was normally tagged by Jones.

ESSENDON v. COLLINGWOOD

Recent game: Round 17 2014 MCG – Essendon 103 defeated Collingwood 39.

Rd 20 2010: 142 SC points, 31 disposals
Rd 5 2010: 78 SC points, 25 disposals

Average is 130 SC points with 32 disposals.

Note: Unbelievable recent record against Essendon – except for his most recent game against them. Only managed 68 SC points in the most recent game with Baguley...
And heeeeeere come the teams.

Welcome to another edition of the Best Buys, a somewhat delayed edition, after a weekend of carnage for most SC coaches. With injuries already to the likes of Ablett, Deledio and Rockliff the season has started out roughly, only to be made worse by players like Bartel getting injured and new favourite The Bont not lining up along with a whole host of rookies being struck down to test our teams' depth. Hopefully this week will see some relief for many of us, but realistically I wouldn't count on it. Unfortunately there really aren't many good rookie options around that aren't injured, so the majority of rookies here are the same as those listed for last few weeks.

Enough of the gloom and doom though, on to the first Best Buy of the season, Rory Sloane.
A dominant player in a dominant team Sloane, and the Crows, have stepped up their game so far this year and are both sitting atop their respective leaderboards. While Rory comes with a hefty price-tag if he can keep things going the way they have been then he'll be more than worth it on the SC front. After a break-out season last year, many are now wondering,is it possible to break-out twice? Only time will tell, but so far it's a big yes.

ROOKIES

Adam Saad (GCS) D/M 188.1k 85 68.3%

Saad has been a great cash-cow so far, and looks likely to continue on with his current form. A consistent scorer and set to increase in price by around 140 grand in the next 3 weeks if he hits his average, there's still money to be made for those late to the table.

Kamdyn McIntosh (RIC) DEF 202.7k 84 59.4%

McIntosh has slowed slightly after his game one heroics, but still looks to be a great option down back. Now over 200 grand in price he will likely not get too many more selections, but with another 116 grand to be made over the coming 3 weeks he certainly isn't the worst rookie option.

Adam Oxley (COL) DEF 199.1k 81 32.1%
Oxley is in a surprisingly low number of teams,...
Birdsville Battlers 1311 def Nunawading Nuffers 1195
A fairly even effort from the Battlers sees them get home over the Nuffers. Eight scores over 90 compared to five for the Nuffers probably tells the story, though Houli's big night out and JPK's unusually quiet night (61) provided most of the difference. Tom McDonald (95) and Rischitelli (101) continue to surprise for the Battlers, while Ellis-Yolmen looks like a terrific pick up for the Nuffers.
Best
Battlers: Houli 150, Murphy, 109, Cloke 104
Nuffers: Broadbent 104, Stanton 104, Ellis-Yolmen 104

Waikikamoocow Incorrigibles 1233 def Lovely Banks Lilacs 1209
Six centuries to two helped the Cows overcome an injury to the luckless Chris Knights (25) and a green-vested Wright (21) to win a tight one over the improving Lilacs.
The Cows received contributions from usual suspects Hannebery, Fyfe (107) & McVeigh (107), while youngsters Griffiths and Elliot impressed up forward. The Cows will no doubt have their fingers crossed for good news on gun recruit Jeremy McGovern's knee after he notched 100 in just over half a game.
The Lilacs were well served by their young, emerging midfield with Duncan, Caddy (94) and Heeney (96) all solid contributors. Scott Thompson wound back the clock with an impressive first up effort.
Best
Cows: Hannebery 136, Griffiths 110, Elliot 108
Lilacs: Thompson 138, Bird 105, Duncan 98

Venus Bay Vultures 1318 def Wagga Wagga Wombats 1161
Solid win for the Vultures over the Wombats. A century from late replacement Jay Schulz added to the efforts of Beams, Steven, Crisp (108) and Howe (102) and helped offset sub-par performances from Malceski and Parker.
Six scores of 52 or less ruined any real chance for the Wombats and meant that the efforts of Watson, Prestia, Thomas and Buddy (103) were in vain.
Best
Vultures: Beams 138, Steven 113, Schulz 112
Wombats: Watson 147, Prestia 125,...
Some of the popular and not so popular SC picks are stinking it up losing $30k or more after Round 3 and looking at huge price drops if they don't find form in the next few weeks. When we don't have these players we can happily grab the popcorn and watch as their price plummets and look for value as a fallen premium in BB's Best Buys later on in the season when their form takes a turn for the good.

But when we do have them it becomes a worry. 3 quiet games at any time during the season is frustrating but at the start of the season super coaches start to panic.

Obviously one of the golden rules of Supercoach is not to sideways trade your premiums, as most times they will come good, but there are exceptions for every rule, and if injuries have been kind (No GAJ, Rockliff, Sidebottom, Bartel, Wines) or you have been succesful in the past using an aggressive trade strategy you should defintely consider using an earlytrade to correct a mistake in your team.

The following are some of the most SC relevant underperforming” playersand the object of this blog is to discuss whether to hold and hope or to pull the lever and trade them out before your SC season follows them down the gurgler. Have your say either way. If someone is missing let us know and we can add them to the list (time permitting).

And if you do lean towards the TRADE out option then be sure to give BB's weekly Best Buys a solid review http://tooserious.net/Blog/tabid/90/Post/7547/Best-Buys-Carnage-Comes-Early

Originally this blog entry was going to a continuation in the series of posts about the 5 O's of ORFFL. But then Sarah Island went and scored 1738 points on the weekend and it seemed a bit rude not to commemorate it. So in it's honour I've created the ORFFL Hall of Records down in the little used ORFFL forum, preserving the history of this competition's 3 and a bit years of history. And funnily enough every team managed to pick up at least some piece of silverware without me needing to include a coaches award. You can find it here.

<p style='color: #424242; margin-bottom: 0px;][span style='letter-spacing: 0px;]Remember way back when in 2012 when Coulta made the finals? Kinda? Me too. Well, the Couldabeens have started off this season like it's 2012, undefeated and sitting in 3rd place. How is this so for a team that finished 3rd last in 2014? They drafted really well in the recent PSD, targeting midfielders and picking up Heeney and the discarded Mitch Wallis in the first 2 rounds to fill sorely hurting vacancies in the team. While in Savage and Burgoyne they have a hbf relishing St. Kilda's early draw and another seemingly able to reverse the ravages of time; improving year upon year at the Hawks.
